you need a timing light to set it. seems that lots of cars are different...mine is almost all the way clockwise to get 15deg btdc. i have seen some that are the opposite. start with it in the middle of the range of adjustment but you need a tgiming light to set it accurately....

There is a half-moon key on the CAS and the camshaft, which forces the CAS to align correctly when replaced. There is also a set of splines on the CAS and camshaft, that will rotate the CAS if the keys are broken / missing. Check you have the half key in the end of the exhaust camshaft. If not, you have to do some visualising to align the CAS side to where the cam side should be.

moral of the story: don't touch stuff if you don't know what you're doing!

i myself will happily adjust the timing but will never remove a CAS as i don't know how it works. same reason i won't tune an ECU myself or attempy to rebuild and engine

This is how you learn! I've done this heaps, i've pulled open things and then realised i'm f**ked, but i always work it out (usually thanks to the SAU geeks)

I have no f**ken idea how the CAS works so i can't help :D
