hey found a turbo kit pretty cheap, its basically monsta gear but the turbo is not, it still appears to be a cheap sh*t knock off.

anyway, i'm lead to believe that these cheap turbos have proven to be so unreliable through lack of balancing, but the one im looking at seems as though it has.

now, question is, are these cheap shit turbos not balanced at all, or do they still get balanced, just badly? if the crap ones dont get balanced, well then im faithful that this turbo might have some life in it

endlighten me!

cheers,

Ben

PS - first posted with 'dont bother, your wasting your time' and not backing it up with something, gets kicked in the face lol

They are all poorly balanced.

Poor materials to make the wheels, bearings.

And hence either shit a bearing and die, or a wheel hits something, or it breaks down under pressure

Use at your own risk - the poor man pays twice

i have heard many stories where these cheap ebay turbos go through peoples engines and then they are up for more than just a new turbo but a rebuild too. If you want a cheap turbo buy second hand from a trusted source. Or look into the KKR range.

turbo + manifold + external gate + dump + speedflow oil feed and return line for $400.... not much else in that price range.

i do believe what everyone else way saying, i just thought they werent balanced, and this one was balanced, so thought it might be a goer, hence this thread. might give it a go anyway, then bolt on a decent turbo later when it lets go... its just so damn cheap lol

That price would cover the lines and (with some change) and nothing else!! You have 100% of people saying they are crap and will damage your car, and you have 0% saying they are a reliable way to make power.

How many cars in the various power up threads are using these ebay turbos?

How many dirt cheap car parts are proven to work well and last?

How often does the old addage "You get what you paid for" ring true?

Do you have the cash to pay for the (worst case) scenario engine rebuild?

Can you not find another $400 to get a KKR turbo?

so you think i can get manifold, dump pipe, external gate, speedflow lines, and a KKR turbo for $800? ever heard that saying 'tell 'im hes dreamiinnn'

a few guys on the VL forums have used the cheap turbos to success, one guy built 6 different cars all with monsta gear and as far as i know they are all still running around, one was making ~260rwkw too. i asked him and he told me that monsta have turned to sh*t in more recent times.

im not trying to say they're great turbos, im asking why they arent, read my posts again.

and from all the threads i've read, across numerous forums, i have persoanlly found more people having success with them than those having failures. and by this i mean people who have actually used em, not 'my friends cousins dog knew a bloke that saw it on tv'

PS- can i afford a rebuild? no. can i afford a $100 motor to replace a f*cked one? yes

Stick with the big brands like Garrett/HKS/Trust etc...... they all use the latest technology and the finest materials available.

Monsta/KKR etc are all the same chinese turbos with high failure rates. But if you really want to get one then feel free too but dont post here when the shaft shatters/warps and compressor blades are thrown into your engine scratching bores bores beyond repair, damaging pistons, ruining valves. Some people may have been lucky enough to have had turbos that have survived so far but its not a risk i would ever take with my car.

you could buy the kit sell the turbo and get a kkr to throw on the mani.

i personally know of a daily driven/drift car , http://www.driftgarage.com.au/ ,the owners personal s13 is running a kkr 430 and the turbz is fine.

also they are a distributer of them.

tell luis, craig with the white R33 sent you. also mentiion skylines australia.
