Hi Guys,

I need to know where I can get replacement globes for my climate control...it still works but the backlight has gone. Also how do i go about changing the lights in the climate control

I guess if you follow the diy for removing the head unit you will get there.

I know how to do that...(I just put my stereo in yesterday).

What I mean is where do the lights on the climate control sit? and most importantly wherre can i get the bulbs from??

did the bulbs die after the Headunit install? Chef_stage's did and we left it 2 or 3 days and they decided to start working again?? :S good luck!

Well one was already blown but when i installed my head unit the other side blew out

Don't worry Jason if you can get your stereo out then this should be an easy fix!

Probably covered elsewhere on site but I had this handy so took some photos for you...

Step 1 pull the climate control out - 4 screws, two on each side hold it to the bracket. NOTE I left the bracket attached and didn't remove those screws. Here then is the complete assembly:

If you look at the back of it you can see the 6 globes straight away - easy!

6 in total, 4 at the bottom behind the buttons, 2 at the top (I presume for the backlight). The 4 down the bottom are of one type, the two at the top are another. Close-up of one of the bottom ones:

You simply use a flat-bladed screwdriver (or small Phillips) and they take about a quarter-turn to undo.

Here are the globes themselves, showing the two types. One on the left is the backlight one (I think, someone correct me if I'm wrong!) from the top (two the same). The one on the right is the type used for the 4 lower bulbs (for the buttons):

As for finding replacement globes... I can show you what they look like but I haven't investigated replacements... anyone else recognise them from the pic's? There was a user on SAU selling LED versions of these bulbs for skyline/stagea, think it was 666dan ?

Yeah Dan666 was, and I approached him but he couldn't help me. the stagea ones are different to the skyline ones. I guess you could try Jaycar or even go direct to Nissan for replacements.

I had some bulbs out on my stagea, went to dick smith and had look at the bulbs they had there. I found some that were 12v, they were physically smaller than the originals and had yellow wires on them already which i had to remove. Even though they are smaller you can still put the little blue covers over them. Sorry for the lack of detail but it was a while ago... Point is you can get similiar bulbs from dick smith that will work with a little bit of mucking around. They have lasted for a couple of years now, no problems.

I picked some up from repco a couple of weeks ago for the climate control.

They are listed in the navara or austa globe catalogue.

They are the same as the smaller globe on the left in DaveB pic.

I used them in all sockets on the climate control and it lights up fine, it appears you dont have to worry too much about having the longer globe as the shorter ones light it up fine.

I'll put a pic up later this evening after work and hopefully a part number so you dont have to trawl the the catalogue and match them up like i did.

For the record the DAN666 LEDs do fit into the Aircon unit... well it did in mine and its identical to the post put up by 'daveB'

That sounds like a "grain-of-wheat" globe, like this:

can you removed the blue part - i've got some t5 wedge 3 led globes (mate brought 1 too many sets for his dash) but looks like I need the holder to put them in the climate control...so can you still use the grey bit or can you buy wedge holders to fit

Do you mean the blue plastic rubber cover? Pretty sure that can be removed.

If you mean the bulb itself; I'm not sure. You could almost definitely just cut the legs off it and solder the LED's legs underneath; I will take a look when I get home. How are your LED's terminated? Do they have 'legs' (for what I mean by legs see pic' above showing "grain-of-wheat globe" - they are the solid - but flexible - silver wires sticking down underneath).

Sorry for my rather delayed reply.

Here's the pics of the globe i used.

No number stamped into them so, you'll have to compare to the catalogue unfortunately.

Also forgot to mention in original post, the globe height was a tad to tall for one of the

far left or right sockets (im forgetfull), so i used my drill press to drill down into the clear plastic

diffuser within the socket about 1-2mm which made for perfect fit.

I see people chatting about those blue rubber covers, they were all in my climate control originally

before the bulbs started to blow, gave a grey look to the display not really blue colour at all.

I rekon those grain of wheat bulbs would give similar look given it's a lightish blue.

Also found those original grey globe holders in the climate control were real easy to unwind the wires with a small pick. Then replace with new bulbs, plenty of wire to work with and small needle nose pliers to pull wire tight, plug'em back in and off you go.

Have'nt check out blue leds myself but been thinking about it for a while now.

Normally leds dont have a nice fine wire to thred through the grey globe mount holes,

also wires are fairly inflexible and wouldn't be long enough as they are usaully for

soldering to a pcb. Standard size led diameter is also too big for the original grey mount.

Although in saying that when i've pulled apart various electrical & pc equipment I've seen some tiny

leds that would be a great fit, just solder some wire to the legs for extra length and thread through.

Which leds are already made to fit? was it those t5/t10 leds i dunno? there's a thread on it someone is selling them.

Thanks Stagea_Neo re: LED's; the LED devices themselves come in a variety of diameters/sizes, among the most common sizes are 5mm diameter and 3mm diameter, so I believe they could almost definitely be made to fit. They always have long legs too (when they are installed on a circuit board the legs are cut short) which would reach through the socket to the base. Saying that you could not simply connect each LED directly to the socket without a current limiting resistor in series with each LED (unless you have a T5 globe or something like that, which has been designed with a current limiting resistor built in); 1K ohms for a 20mA LED should be about right by my calculations (based on 13.8V) but you should probably check this. A big range of colours/hi/low brightness options and low price (about 20 cents each) means I will probably go LED's soon as I think they could be installed relatively easily with the aid of a soldering iron.

Sorry, wasn't able to answer this question, but did they fit?

I have just found some info' on globes for the (standard) climate control:

A/C Unit

- 2 x T5 multi direction/3 LED bulbs (the one you can see in the bulb holder in the DIY) These i used in the LCD of the A/C

- 4 x T1.5 Single LED bulbs (smaller and as you can see in the pics the A/C buttons are not very bright. But still great!
