Sorry if it's a repeat topic, I did some searching and didn't come up with anything (forum search software blows).

Now, I'm about to get a FMIC on my R33 S2 and I wanted to know, where is it ok to put my front number plate?

I've seen a couple of cars with it off to the left hand side which is good for me because I'm wanting to do a simple air-intake where the side mount used to be. But what are the legalities involved with relocating the number plate?

Eventually I'll get a slimline plate for the front to make things easier (plus I prefer it to be the the center -- looks more balanced), but until then where can it go?

looking at the car headon i've got mine on the bottom right haven't had problems with p olice or n ething they pulled me over b4 but never said ne hting about the number plate bein there =)

seen a few people with it on the left

Get some custom plates and get a slim line plate for the front :action-smiley-069:

Yeah, I think I might have to do that sooner than I thought. Maybe I'll just mount the number plate a little higher until I have more money to blow on plates. :)

The hard thing is, space is pretty limiting. The fog lights may be a bit too much in the way to put it off to the left.

Get something like a couple of L brackets & join it to the bumper in the gap underneath the lights.

Yea, thats what I've done. I just made a bracket that lifted the whole plate up by about 60 to 70mm.

Mine is mounted on the drivers side on my BNR32 Righthand side. Cops have pulled me over and said nothing. And unfortunately the multinovas still get ya. Comes up clear as day in the infringement photos. and i'm sure thats all the police care about.

I have a Cusco number plate offset kit that uses the original holes and moves it off to the passenger side. I never used it. Stainless steel bracket, still in the packet. (That rhymes!)

Let me know if you are interested. By the way, all Alfa Romeos have it on passenger side from factory. The only legal requirement that I am aware of is that it has to be mounted so that it is parallel with the axle - so you cannot have too much of an angle.

Cheers.

    • All I can say Duncan is good luck and I hope that Neil did not run any E85 in Cheryl. I have recently experienced the full spectrum of fuel tank issues in my R33's that had been caused by E85 and contaminated fuel. When you take the cover off the top of the tank and have a look inside you will get an understanding of how easy it will be. Best case situation is clean fuel with minimal contamination. My GTR was like this and it was a very simple operation to just grab the fuel pump carrier bracket and slide it up and out of the tank. My three GTS_T's had different levels of fuel contamination that was probably caused by E85 in the fuel.  In the worst case all of the metal components in the tank had rusted to the point where there were pieces of rusted metal swirling around in the tank. This required the removal of the exhaust, the tailshaft, the complete rear cradle and the fuel tank. The components in the tank were that rusted that it took days to get the fuel pump carrier and the mounting brackets out of the tank. When the tank was finally cleaned, everything inside the tank had to be replaced. With the tank all back together I could then reinstall it in the car along with everything else that had to come out. Good luck and I hope that you find a clean tank.
    • It is a two door. It is black and also still has the OEM wheels and stereo. Exact model would be KR_R32RGFEL_SS According to GTR-Registry.com is a 2 Door Coupe; RB20DE; 2WD no HICAS; MT.F5; (11L) Projector Headlamps and Fog Lights; (12_) Electronic Active Full Auto Air Con (Climate Control); (13-14SS) V Selection -- Which seems to be accurate description of my variant. Will try to upload a few pictures soon. The OEM wheels look like the below image. Image is taken from the goo-net-exchange website.
