Hsv Owners Being Converted

interesting... good thing is most of those hsv owners switching to nissan are likely to be older and a little more sencible than sterio type v8 hoons.... could be a good thing.

and i read a fair bit of that thread... they all talk about the gtr highly. i like

The point is made in the first few posts on the LS1 forums.

The only common ground these cars have is the price.

They have indeed seen the light and respect to them for not dismissing it due to narrow minded brand loyalty like some will.

I was going to put a link up to that thread ... I have been a member on LS1 for almost 4 years and have owned 4 HSVs and heaps of Holdens. I currently have a SS-V, an E Series GTS and a heavily modified HSV Coupe 4 that has recently run a 10.982 @ 124 mph down the qtr on street tyres. I think it's fair to say that I am a die hard a Holden / HSV fan ... but that doesn't mean I think everything else is crap. Most members on LS1 give credit where it's due, there have even been threads on the Typhoon that have been mostly positive !!! You get the tools ... but every forum has them.

I have placed a deposit on an R35 as quite simply it looks to be the best sports car ever made for the money. I will still own Holdens, especially as we have 2 young kids and need a sedan with room for the whole family ... but no Commodore will ever be able to do what the GT-R can do. I think the fact that several LS1 members have placed a deposit on a GT-R ... and several others are seriously considering it ... shows just what sort of impact the release of the GT-R has had.

I envy your position. But on a serious note, Want to do a trade? ME for one of your kids? I can feed myself and go to the toilet by myself. PM me if interested. I promise i wont mess the gtr when you take me to work in it!

its just a joke. I'm sure 99% of readers would at the agree. Sorry if i "crossed the line".

Back on topic.

You would have to be a extremely loyal HSV die-hard to not think the GTR is great value for money. If anything, it will prove beyond doubt that the aussie car builders are not progressing down the right track when it comes to building a performance car. Less capacity, better performance in this case. Maybe they would get better results (sales) if they copied someone other than the yanks. Surely the days of bogans being the number one fan base are limited, especially in light of the oil crisis and the whole climate control issue. Reguardless of all that crap, I would prefer to see the GTR on the street. Living where i do, that would make the papers! :down:

I don't think they are going down the wrong track ... if you are after a car that is all out performance then yes, a big heavy 4 door sedan is not ideal. HSV is all about making the big sedan about as performance oriented as it can get. I love our V8s (I have 3 of them !!!), they are bloody quick, very comfortable, look great (IMO anyway) and more than enough room to load up the family, fill up the boot and head off on holidays. They are sensational highway cars, overtake with ease, cruise at 100 km/h with less than 2000 rpm on the clock and bucket loads of torque ready to get you moving when you need to ... and the kids can sit in the back and watch a DVD.

Now clearly something that is designed to do all this is never going to be able to do what a GT-R can do ... but a GT-R couldn't take me and the family on holidays comfortably either. Very different cars with very different roles to play ... personally, I love all of them.

I go on that site from time to time, and the discussions on that forum are mostly constructive, with educated opinions. I have been toying with the idea of getting an LS3 HSV.

very intresting. I think Nissan has blown the market open with its bang for buck. I would be very suprised if the HSV comes in at a similar price to the GTR.

As mentioned in that thread... gee i wish i had that dilemma. Serious note, I know two people so far in my network of friends who have their names down for the GTR.. one has a ridiculous AMG Mercedes, and the other a 911 Porsche. The GTR will be cheaper than both the cars... so it shows that people are starting to put brand loyalty aside, and can see the value for money the GTR represents.

Point taken. Agreed, But you dont need 7 litres for that. Its just not a smart way to get there, in terms of being enviromentally friendly. I just think its overkill, thats all. I understand its obviously not about that, But it is the way of the future. look at all the manufactures form around the globe... Most are all about being climate friendly.

Anyway, whatever gets hsv owners into a gtr must be good, all the hsv owners i know, are the most stubborn people i know.

Absolutely right ... the GTS is more than fast enough for what we use it for. If you are after an all out sports car there are MUCH smarter choices than a 7 litre 4 door sedan ... it just doesn't make sense to spend that much money on a compromised sports car ( ... this coming from an die hard HSV fan ). The size that it is, it can never expect to compete with cars like the GT-R in terms of performance.

People will argue what I argued a few posts up ... "it can carry the whole family etc. etc." ... but so can a Clubbie or a GTS and they are a hell of a lot cheaper and not all that much slower !!! Just doesn't make sense to me. I might pick one up when they are 2 years old and have depreciated 40%.

This is proof that Holden drivers aren't all "bogan" and uneducated as the stereotype suggests. HSV owners are performance enthusiasts just like GTR owners, so it's great they're buying a few R35's. Brand loyalty is one thing (and not a bad one either), but narrow-mindedness is just ignorance.

Hoorah to a GTR owner that picks up a GTS or a Monaro as well. They're awesome cars regardless of how many seconds faster around a track the R35 is.

I think enthusiasts like Nick bridge a gap in Aussie motorsport culture that has really damaged our international reputation. We've moved on from the '91 & '92 Bathurst dabacle. The breed of Aussie motoring enthusiast today is more educated, open-minded and realises how much is happening in Japan and Germany, as well and Australia and America.

    • So.... when I'm finally getting around to having my power steering leak sorted, now it looks like I've got the same issue most A/T Skylines are having. My A/T light will randomly come on and I'm stuck in 3rd gear until I turn the car off and on again. Only 3 weeks ago I did a complete transmission service: Oil flush + new gasket + new filter. This came out of nowhere!! It wasn't like the car was driven hard. I drove about 3 mins down the road to get fuel and boom!!!  Anyway, I have a few questions and hope you fine people can help me out here. All questions are in red. 1. The solenoids: I was looking at the parts catalogue in Amayama and I could only find the Solenoids as an assembly. https://www.amayama.com/en/part/nissan/319404ax05 I read in another thread that Solenoid A = 31940-4AX02 & Solenoid B = 31940-4AX05 but the Amayama product has only the code of B. Is this the right part? Can anyone who has done the Solenoid changes or seen them confirm if this is the complete set of A & B?   2. Gasket and Filter: I'm not going to try change the solenoids myself because it seems difficult to do in a home garage with just 2 jack stands. I plan to take it to a shop and get it changed. I was also going to buy the transmission sump gasket at the same time so I don't reuse the same gasket. Should I just use the existing gasket as it has only been on the car since OCT 19th? (~3 weeks) Should I be buying a brand-new gasket and a filter? Does this job involve taking the filter out?   Thanks in advance to everyone. It's hard to find a video of someone doing a solenoid change on a R34 so any help you can give answering my remaining questions would make me less stressed.
    • Yea - From what I have seen from the video, the car idles like any R34 lol 50PSI of fuel pressure is hardly super abnormal, the regulator is working because the pressure remains static when the throttle gets revved, i.e pressure remains the same when manifold vaccuum changes. Bigger pumps on stock rails always bumped the pressure in the rail without using an aftermarket regulator to change that. Do you know what your IAC is actually doing? Has there been any data showing the stepper motor % etc? There's no way your idle is actually moving around the way the cluster(s) are indicating. You would hear the difference with the engine RPM flying to 3k and 1k in mere seconds. I'd be checking the wiring to the tacho. What the tacho is telling you and what the engine/ecu is telling you are different things. I assume your ECU doesn't display the spike. So whatever is telling the tacho to be at X rpm is doing something weird. When the going gets insane, you're on the wrong path. You've ruled out plenty of things that are working correctly/aren't the issue. Your idle isn't doing what the tacho is indicating. You have two seperate issues, I don't think they are linked, and the idle seems reasonably okay unless it's stalling which.. well, it hasn't. Troubleshoot the stall if it occurs by figuring out what your IAC is doing vs what it is being told to do.
