Hi all , the Pro S versions of the 2835 and 3037 usually work better than generic Garrett versions because they are model specific and tailored to suit the engines state of tune . Its all in the housings and dump .

Good results , I've often wondered how the 0.68 A/R 3037 Pro S shaped up on an R33 RB25DET .

HKS went to a fair bit of trouble with their GT Pro turbine housing and dump pipe for a reason - they work .

Does anyone with access to Nengun/Greenline know what they charge for this kit ATM ?

Are you intending to run the poncams to finish it off ?

One interesting fact is that if using the OEM exhaust manifold, the HKS housing has to be relieved to match the larger than T3 flange on the manifold. So it bolts up, but still has the same slight mismatch facing the Garrett housing.

I'll have to grab a vid of the garrett equiv to the hks3037s; its quite a bit louder even with a stock air box.

Dale.. A friend recently did this with his gt35r 1.06 iw bolted on to the std exh. manifold and picked up ~20rwkw.

20kW is a LOT. That lip might only be 5mm or so, but it's got to cause problems with achieving smooth efficient flow into the turbine. The stock manifold does a good job, but the system doesn't need restriction like that when it's reasonably easily fixed.

The HKS unit runs a bell mouth insert within the compressor snout. Does anyone know if these are available for purchase? When looking into the inducer of the housing as supplied by Garrett, you can see the square edged lip that the insert sits into. That in itself would not work well for flow, and has to add to the HKS branded item. Just wondering.

I put a video response on that youtube vid of my Skyline (and a mates Supra - unfortunately I don't have video editing software to remove that bit :) ) blatting up the road in a similar kind of way, you can hear my Garrett 56T GT3076R with .82a/r rear housing doing the same thing. Definitely has a noticeable difference in spool sound etc. Exhaust note sounds a bit different though there are a few differences in setup between mine and Jasons - one of the majors being his being tuned on 17psi with 95 octane and mine being on ~1bar on 98 octane.

I agree, that lip would cause a bit of restriction, i didnt even think to check the internal measurements of the stock manifold flange compared to the exhaust housing, would have a gained a decent amount of flow/repsonse/power if i had the turbo matched to the manifold, anyway this might be fixed in the future, i already have a few plans in my head which involve a new custom made manifold :)

    • Sorry no - The sandtrap adventure ended the day, happened at the end of the last session. At that time I wasn't hearing any weird noises nor were the brakes shuddering anymore. It was only when watching the videos that I remembered I had these sounds early on!
    • Did the noise appear after your sand trap adventure? Could be something got dislodged and is playing rub rub. Even a rock wedged somewhere.
    • Is there a shroud around the tailshaft spline into the back of the box? They can rub and make a horrible noise if they are not on straight/damaged. The heat might have caused it to grow too much in one direction and rub.
    • Strangely I noticed it either disappear later in the day, or not be present. I definitely noticed when I was crawling around that open wheel thingy entering the pits (that part was audible in car). Driving home and commuting around town for example, I didn't hear it. It's plausible that it was a brake disc or something still slightly in contact. The brakes absolutely felt BAD for the first couple of sessions, huge amounts of shudder and grinding as they got up to temp - And then I actually just forgot about it as the day went on/didn't notice it. The videos were from the morning when this was more present than the afternoon/drive home when it wasn't. I've asked around and got a variety of responses including handbrake shoe contacting hub, CV joints, CB tailshaft bearing as above, and clutch input bearing. I didn't test if it disappeared when clutch was in. I haven't noticed it in any of the other videos nor did I notice it when driving to that extent. More or less hoping the microphone at the rear license plate giving some kind of clue of 'something' but it looks like "spin stuff and see if you can notice it" is the way forward here. I could be smart and use the gopro mic and re-mount it to that location to see if the sound is still present at low speed actually. Sounds like a decent test whenver I have the CBF'ness to drive the car again. Given it's almost 40C for the day of the track day and the next 3 days after, the CBF is high. All I've done since getting home is unpack the car, remove the remnants of the lip and undertray and left it there. I was surprised how well the PMU Club Racers actually worked. The brake performance on the track was absolutely fantastic, best I've ever personally used, no fade whatsoever and the bitiness was almost too good, I was scrubbing more speed off than I needed to, but I also ended up infield when I started trying to scrape off ... less speed.... so...
