I'm out but my parting comment is that it would be madness to go grafting an R31 rear cross member and A arms into an R30 . The whole R31 platform is very different to an R30 and to think otherwise suggests that Nissan didn't know what they were doing in that era .

Dimensionally R200 long nose diffs are the same with the only meaningful differences being the rear uni joints companion flange and the inner rear drive shaft joints interface .

I am 90% sure the late short nose R200's carrier is dimensionally the same as early ones with the same offsets to suit the same ring/pinion ratios .

Some early era R200's used smaller crown wheel bolts than the later ones but solving that issue if you have dissimilar holes/bolts either way is easy .

An R200 is a mechano set diff , its a long or a short and I'll leave it at that .

PS , sorry there were a few odd ball R200 viscous LSD's and those are best avoided .

Sorry! but other than engine swaps, I will never understand why anyone wants to take something that was very well engineered by it's manufacturer and make overly dramatic changes to damned near everything. I have seen on these pages talk of using R33 brake master cylinders and brake boosters, WHY? How are the R33 master cylinders and booster better than what you have already??

Dr30 Skylines and it's predecessors were raced & rallied very successfully with steering boxes and there own IRS system for years. It's not that they didn't have the technology, as zed cars had rack & pinion steering long before the R30 came to be. If it's the feedback from the road you source so much and the old worn steering box doesn't do it anymore, get the new parts made to order so it does, it would have to be less expensive than an entire refit/conversion.

Other than wheel selection, what is the benefit of 5 stud wheels, and in any case the Japanese 2ndhand wheel market is expansive to say the least.

If it's a drum brake hand brake and other such things you want, why not just go buy an HR31 complete car instead of having a bitser, like an R30 with an RB motor and R31 rear end, the mods are extensive to say the least and when you want to sell, who is going to want it any way???

To me it's like putting an 350 Chev in an XJ12 Jag, it's a great conversion if you have no intention of selling it, but if you do, it's value is very low.

Sorry MrMayhem, but you will never convince me what you have done is for the better. There are legends in the Nissan/Datsun modifying & rebuilding business in Oz like Stewart Wilkins & Arthur Jackson, and they have never gone down the conversion track you have. So! I ask myself why bother, when the legends don't?

I think this thread has got away fro the issue Jon wanted to discuss. The main point of the question was to do with getting the R32 4 pots on and the rotrs and drum handbake setup and would it fit, not the benefits or otherwise of it which is his business.

I've seen pics of an R32 backing plate bolted up to late DR30 style trailing arms. The backing plate appeared to bolt straight up to the mounting holes of the original backing plate. Also the 5 stud stub axles from a Z31 had been slotted in, (not that you asked about a 5 stud conversion). Therefore the stub axles from the HR31 and the backing plate and drum brakes from either HR31 or R32 etc should work.

So just use your DR30 arms and swap over the backing plate and drum brake, and if you wnat to stay 4 stud you may have to get some hub centric spacers machined up to slip over the hub to space the rotor out 10mm as the R32.HR31 rotors are 10mm thicker than the solid DR30 ones. A mate is doing this this on his trailing on an IRS Gazelle.
