The GTR is already SEVS capable.

We just don't have a damn workshop yet!

From what I've heard a workshop in WA currently has 2. And they're using them to get SEVS approval workshop wise, to show that they CAN make them legal.

THEN we'll have them in grey.

The GTR is already on the SEVS register for new vehicles only.

It will be 18 months from 2007 before second hand cars would be able to make it onto the SEVS register for the RAWS scheme to have any effect and by then Nissan will have shut down this angle by gaining full volume import approval from DOTARS. It is unlikely that second hand GTRs will make it into the country via grey import if this is the case. The only chance is if Nissan do not fulfill the requirements for the full volume import approval and import too few cars. Then that may open the flood gates to grey imports of second hand GTRs.

There is another way though fortunately and by the end of the month the lucky owner will be able to post details.

As I've posted elsewhere in this forum, a fair price would be $110-115,000.

That's based on guesstimating the overseas pricing breakdown and understanding local taxation costs, which then imply that as low as $90,000 should be do-able (a la Canada).

Furthermore, grey imports (if possible) would come in around $120-125,000 (after paying full price in Japan!) and also arrive 12 months earlier than from Nissan Aus.

If Nissan can't sell you this car for a fair price and are unable to block the grey imports, then they cede control of the GTR brand to the importers. Please Nissan, use common sense! And hurry up, its not like Nissan Japan sprung this car on you by surprise!

It is $120,000 in equipment for the dealer, 2 guy's off to Japan for training and the biggest thing people forget for which ever way it comes in is Recalls as the Importer is responsible for all cost's parts and labor and their is already a issue in Japan holding up deliveries.

So as an example if their is a recall on the drive train and some expensive parts have to be replaced (we know they wont be cheap) the SEVS/RAWS workshop is held responsible for all cost's not just take it to Nissan and they will sort it, this is factored into a RAWS costs.

Nissan will charge what people will pay not what someone thinks is a fair price which is a fact of life when so many rich people want one.

that's quite a misleading statement from Nissan in that article.

Remember last time they tried to market a gtr here. It fell on its arse and they couldnt shift the minscule amount they bought in.

When Nissan bought the r32 GTR back in 1991 it was on the arse end of the "recession we had to have"

The average wage back then was approx $30K for a $100K car

Today the ecconomy is booming, heaps of people are earning over a $100K a year for a car that will sell for $120-150K.

That is alot better wage/cost ratio and the cars should sell alot easier.

I'd love to post the details as you know that's exactly what I can't do though for no reason other than respect for the people involved. I could trample on their toes and post anything I wanted but I'd rather let the guy who made the huge investment to get to this stage announce it. It's not my place to post anything other than what was already made public if you looked in the right places.

As for how it's possible - that information is also public for anyone who wants to wade through it.

Low Volume Scheme for New Vehicles :

INTRODUCTION

Before a vehicle can be registered in Australia for the first time it must be fitted with an Identification Plate (Compliance Plate). The "manufacturer" who is the person or company taking responsibility for the vehicle being modified to meet the required Australian Design Rules (ADRs) may affix an Identification Plate to a vehicle if an approval has been issued by the Administrator of Vehicle Standards under the Motor Vehicle Standards Act 1989.

NEW VEHICLES

The Low Volume Scheme for new vehicles allows for the supply to the market of up to 25 or 100 vehicles per year per vehicle category. The Scheme provides a major concession in that it allows alternative forms of evidence to be submitted against some of the ADRs. In the main this applies to ADRs where destructive or expensive testing is required.

The type of evidence required is detailed in the Evidence Examination Procedures Manual [PDF: 184 KB].

The Low Volume Scheme for new vehicles is limited to vehicle make/models that are on the Register of Specialist and Enthusiast Vehicles (the Register). The eligibility requirements for entry on the Register are set out in Regulation 24 of the Motor Vehicle Standards Regulations 1989 and in the Administrator of Vehicle Standards Circular 0-2-12. On the up side Nissan also announced that they are looking for a way of getting Richard's into the R35 in local motorsport.

Seriously, the Z33 isn't that bad a performer. A half-arsed driver like me, with light bolt-ons, can run reasonable times on the track in the car given how stable the thing is.

However, if you look at BeerBaron's comments in a slightly different perspective then he's right. Nissan Australia has done nothing for the performance credibility of the 350Z, which motorsport competitors have demonstrated it can have.

Since I had a Z33 since they came out and went looking for other enthusiasts early, I came into contact with the two teams that ran 350Z's in ProCar (Mike Fitzgerald via Pro Concept, and Peter Pilkington who was the mechanic for his son Nathan's JDM car). Not only did Nissan Australia not run their own factory team or provide half decent support for these privateers, but they actively tried to hold them back.

Due to one of the rules in ProCar, you had to buy any performance modifications from the local division. I can't remember if it was Peter or Joshua but one of the guys was already discussing stuff with Nismo Japan, who had a bunch of parts they wanted a motorsport team to try out and use. However, Nissan Australia refused to act as an intermediary and sell them the parts, and the rules did not permit them to go to Nismo Japan directly. So, basically, they got bollocksed. If you ever watched the 350Zs race, they more than held their own in the corners but were obviously down on power in the straights.

I haven't spoken to Aaron McGill about how his ProCar days in the S15 went, but I doubt it was much better. I think the Whites get the Nismo parts for their Targa Tasmania winning R34 GT-R from PowerPlay Imports. Isn't the guy who's running the Donut King R35 in Targa on this forum? I wonder if he's getting any help from Nissan Australia, since he's promoting the car and the brand in Australia's most famous road rally.

Nissan Australia, quite frankly, can go bollocks themselves. They've done absolutely bollocksing nothing for the cult following the brand has in Australia. They decided to bring in that nugget Maxima instead of importing the V35 Skyline as the family car. The only reason they've got a market for this new halo model is because of enthusiasts like yourselves, who worked around their beancounters and brought the cars in without them.
