Hey pal, I was out there too.... saw your ride but didn't know who you were!!

Nice times indeed... I was only running low 1:30s in a 32 GTR (have run 1:27s in a Gts-t) as I was tryin to save my car from the heat!! Bloody hell it was HOT!!!

I ended up boiling my brake fluid and losing them altogether!!

I was considerate enough to pull off line and allow the quicker guys to go past and gave em a wave thru... no hassles.

Perhaps she should have been given a black flag and had a caution to let the faster cars by??

Anyways, I still had a blast... bring on the next one.... and cooler weather.

yeah that was on street tyres too the semi slicks didnt come in on time, as far as the black flag it was out for me!! hopefully on the next tarck day the old codger will be dead! f#$ken pr&%k. he wouldnt listen to me he just shouted GET OFF THE TRACK! YOURE GOING TOO FAST!!.

I love that second last corner at mallala.

My first track day there i was entering that corner at about 60 km at the apex in the morning, by the end of the day it was at 100+ such good fun.

^^ agreed... I was on my street cheap-ass crap tyres also.

They certainly do make the difference. Next time I will definitely be rollin' on something a bit stickier!

I had a quick word to the guy from the GP rally that was in the 33... he was runnin' 1:21s!!

yeah he had re55's and he should be running a lot faster considering he has a 4wd? last time i went on a practice day there was a dood running a 400kw gtr r33 and the best time he could run was 1:25 and that was about 22degrees on the track. you can shave at least 3 seconds off with semi slicks! oh btw throw out your interior that will save you about 20kg. maybe we should organise an SAU track day? to hire the track for a weekend day is about $5000 if 50 of us were in it'd cost about $100 each.

I know a guy doing 1:12's on his 600cc motorbike.

thats pretty sweet i think the lap record is Formula Holden Paul Stokell (Birrana Reynard) 01:02.6 7/08/1994 and v8 supertaxis 1:08 greg murphy man i got a ways to go!

I think they just dont like skylines at Mallala, my self and drinkies got red flaged for oversteer and then our team leader got told if we drive that fast through corners again that he will disqualify our whole team.

I was only doing 1.27's

hey guys just a quick question..... how often can u go down there?? and appart from a helmet what else do you need? how much etc??? can u use the track if your curantly on suspended liscence?? really needa take the R for a proper run and just drive... im dying for a fang!

mate sounds like youre onto something! maybe you have to have a pushrod dinosaur or a HQ racecar to race there, maybe theyr scared of gettin their buts caned by skylines, i cant believe this shit! where can we use all our power? maybe we should have another hills run???????

practice days are better you can go harder! but you need a cams licence next one i think is in april, you need helmet, fire extinguisher, and car smust be track ready , or you will break something TRUST ME! brakes, tyres,oh tyres!!!! radiator and gearbox, if you even have a hint your car is not up to abuse, FORGET it you won't have a memorable experience!!! suspended licence didnt stop me on the track you just don't say anything about it if you have a cams licence that is current ALL GOOD!

i think they got there groupings a bit mixed up. What was that red corolla doing in group 2? It was way slower than the rest in that group and just got in the way. I think they only group car by the drivers experience and don't take the cars into account at all. I was only out there for an hour (that heat was something else) did they put you in group 4? What colour was the evo the chick was driving?

    • Here's one I help build and tuned a decade ago, Garrett  GTX3071R Gen 1, T3 twin scroll 0.83 rear housing. Went from larger 272 cams down to smaller Tomei Poncams to help with the low end. S13 non VCT motor. Car was purpose built for the track, hence low down was the focus. Note the actual dyno chart shows lower boost, however the EBC and boost gauge showed 1.9Bar (Ignore the torque, I was young and didn't know how to set derived torque)
    • I’m doing some side developments on SR20det S13 engines, its one my hobby cars used it to compare flow capacity of some smaller size wheels. SR20det is one of another JDM legendary engines I'm sure there are plenty of SR enthusiasts on this forum, I will share results some common turbo configurations here. a quick run down of what the car is: Wide body 180sx Type X with black top engine (blue). It has: Stock bottom end Haltech 1500 ECU 5-0 motorsports trigger kit Kelford SR20DET Beehive Spring with Titanium Retainers Kelford Cams SR20DET S13 188-B 268/272 Cams G25-660 Turbocharger in T2 .64 rear housing internally gated ARP Head studs MLS head gasket 1000CC ID injectors Walbro 450L Fuel pump Front mount cooler kit JJR’s 3 inches turbo back exhaust (its too short for the 180sx it had to be extended) Pump 98 fuel Hub Dyno tune So far made 270rwkws at 22psi full boost by 4500RPM. Engine is very knock limited hence a pretty bad looking top end. From previous experiences it seems like SR20dets are happier with bigger size turbine, some thing like a GT30 would make way better top end, but on same time response is lost. It won't be a problem with S15 VCT engines. I'll be testing alternative turbine housing, turbine wheel and possibly dump pipe options for extra flow to resolve the problem and of course E85 would resolve all the issues.
    • Awesome writeup and details. Thanks for sharing the story so far. I can relate to parts of it with my previous car and some of the issues I had to deal with.
    • Wow the colour matched hard top completely transforms the car. Are there any nice front lip options for the car or is that off the table?
    • Generally yes but for some reason I've been ruthless this time around!  I might even need to do another tip run after the way I've finally been able to hit the delete button on shit I've stepped over, stepped around and tripped over for the past 10 years!
