was wondering exactly how many lines there are off a gt3540 turbo? and how much would it cost to get braided lines?

was quoted around 500 which seems a lil high to me but then again its not my area.

apart fromt he turbo wat are other typical spots to get braided lines aswell.

any pics would be great!

i just got my gt3540 done man. i used 3 braided lines with some 'special' snap on-off fittings....apparently.. and am still using a basic hose for the big oil drain on the bottom, although it is covered with a fireproof sleeve.

for 3 fittings it cost me $425 from ENZED. they are a fair length...and that price included ALL fittings

Totally depends on the length you require.

I paid about $150 for mine, but then i knew the guy :D

I wouldnt bother with something from ebay - get them made to suit the application otherwise your likely to waste your money

Pertek guy will prolly use crimp hose ends (like on high pressure brake and power steering) which will bump the cost up.

You can ask him to use ordinary AN compression fittings (Earls, Speedflow, Aeroquip) as people do with the -10 oil cooler setups.

Or you can orders some fittings and line and make em yourself.

I got an oil feed line made up at PIRTEK - was with the clamped ends, takes up to 280deg heat

Cost me about $90 with a banjo style fitting on one side and a shit load of other fittings on the turbo side

Pretty good quality, no issues with it at all - just talking about the oil feed here

I made mine up myself from parts from www.staparts.co.nz and another local shop who i wont reccomend as Apex Brake and CLutch are expensive bollockswits!:-)

The ones that i couldnt get some STA are pretty fiddly and not a major and most shops will sell them. STA parts braided lines etc are so cheap and id highly reccomend them.

Total cost would have been around 320NZD if i hadnt ordered way too much length for everything. Getting the braid into the fittings takes patience but mine are mint

The pic just shows my pushloc lines as i hadnt put the braid on at the time. Pushloc is great as it doesnt rub through things like braid and is so easy to work with. For water stuff its brilliant

Oh yeah, ive done lots of research into the way water flows through the rb blocks and this is the correct way to run the piping. Running the water return through the back of the engine results in putting more hot water back into the engine.

What ive done is relocated a sensor, moved another across and tapped the thread to suit. Looks good and i dont anticipate any problems with it.

Thanks mate. I havent gone flashy in any places (as you would have noticed), rather went for a reliable setup that would produce the goods.

The turbo manifold was a necessity as the stock ones are so crap and mounting a big gate on them is heaps of effort. Its custom and made of 2 inch pipe for the runners.

Here is another pic of the way the pipe is run. We have since cut it down quite a lot and mounted a bracket on the side of it to keep it in place.

They are 2 temp sensors from memory (obviously due to the location). One has been moved across to make way for the bigger fitting and the other has been put in the water jacket on the intake manifold, along with an aftermarket temp sensor (you can see it there if you look closely).

    • I have seen a case where the starter motor shorting against the casing caused a massive voltage drop + so much EMI that it caused all the sensors to spew garbage data at the ECU. Test the battery to make sure it has acceptable CCA/capacity first, I have gotten "brand new" batteries before that couldn't even power a 10W light bulb without dying probably because it sat in a warehouse too long without being charged. Only easy way to diagnose this 100% is put an oscilloscope on the battery and also look at key sensors to see if there's any clues.
    • There's a bunch of smaller shops that don't quite attract Singer money but are still hiring from that same pool of labor. Those are the body shops that you go to when you can't afford a Singer, but your old Porsche needs some serious bodywork. You can't exactly take those cars to the usual insurance body shops. When I say restomod, I mean they'll do something other than 100% OEM/OEM-equivalent aftermarket parts R&R. In the Porsche world this would be stuff like taking a 50k 964, doing a bunch of deferred maintenance/unwinding the nightmares the previous owners did to the car because a lot of people that own these cars tended to be penny wise, pound foolish types, then maybe some relatively simple off the shelf modifications to things like suspension, transmission, engine, headlights, etc. and you've spent 130k USD. When even the worst houses in the poor neighborhoods are worth 1M USD and the nice houses in wealthy neighborhoods are worth 3-10M USD suddenly 130k spent on a 50k car seems cheap.
    • Hoping to get a few ideas to help troubleshoot this issue, I'll try to keep it short.  A mate popped the motor in his 2018 LDV T60 with the 2.8 turbo diesel motor. He swapped it and I was his phone a friend when he got stuck.  The new motor is in, however it won't fire. The battery is literally brand new, when you crank it the volts very quickly (say 2 seconds of cranking) drop to 8 volts and the engine stops turning over. Watching the belts, I'd say they move about 5cm before coming to a stop. We put a booster pack on, no change.  The only potential issue I'm aware of is, when we pulled the motor the grounding strap was still attached. The strap copped a thrashing before we realised what was going on. It looks okay-ish but it's going to be replaced to rule it out.  The main challenge is, I wasn't there for 90% of the work. This is his first time doing any major work on a car and he was learning as he was going. He thinks everything has been put back together properly, however I'm not entirely confident that this is the case.  It would be good to get some ideas about what else to check. The car isn't spitting any codes so that doesn't help.  I've attached a photo, because why not lol.   
    • I mean an N1 came with a minimal paint thickness compared to dealer models. It’s probably had a ton of vinyls and stuff possible a race paintjob or two over the years. you don’t buy an N1 for its stunning good looks or comfort 🤣 you buy it to send it and measure how much air you can get on the hill at Bathurst
