just measured the Mahle piston against a CP...all that is required for sufficient oil jet to skirt clearance is the fitting of a 2mm aluminium washer under the oil jet when installing...easy!

This is the same method Tomei use to properly clearance pistons in their 2.8 stroker kits.

Paul,

Half way back i noticed the Cometic gasket was on my back seat :D

Will post it with the other gear.

And just a reminder all that needs to be kept out of the dud head is the Tomei valve springs.

it's good to know paul is human and makes mistakes like the rest of us, i just hope he's learned now not to comment on other builders work.

When the engine was gettng transported we needed to close the engine up so no foreign objects got in. Which meant all the covers,harmonic balancer,timing belt ect ect were getting put on.

Paul did say that the timing belt was only put on for transporting the engine and would have to be redone when we had the engine in the car.

So in all the excitment we forgot. And after the final tune we went for a drive to see its potential.

With a tight timing belt each time i got on and off the gas the shaft holding one of the pulleys would flex back and forth, so after about 6 hrs the shaft failed due to metal fatigue, the timing belt let go,and as a result the engine went out of timing.

The pistons smashed the valve train causing bent and snapped valves,also punched a nice hole in the face of the head.

Now before everyone jumps to conclusions Paul is not responsible for this engine failure as he did tell me that i would need to re-tension the timing belt.

When i called Paul after this had happend he was very sympethetic and agreed to help me out as much as i needed to get this thing back to the way it was.

I have since bought new bearings,new valves, new valve guides,new valve seats and will be ordering new pistons as soon as i get my rego and insurance sorted.

So hopefully next month ill be driving back up to see Paul with my engine to get the ball roling again.

Yes as you could imagine i was quite guttered after this had happend, but after about a day or two i was fine.

"Shit Happens" as they say and its nothing that cant be fixed. But rest assured she will be back with a vengence very soon!

Sorry, i tell a lie...I did make an error during this build...i broke a second ring fitting one of the pistons. Did i hide it from Dave?...not likely...but i could have just ordered a new set and never told him. Everyone makes mistakes yes but a true mark of a man is how he deals with them after the fact and how he reacts when under pressure. Anyone can fly high when they are at the top of their game.

By the way...let me guess...your Nathan Weasel?

EDIT: Dave's engine should be complete on Saturday if all goes to plan.

While Mr Weasel comes on here and desperately tries to draw a parallel between this unfortunate incident and what he did to (insert forum members name here) engine, the differences couldn't be further from each other.

Nathan... while this failure relates to an error by Dave and something externally on the engine that was, due to certain circumstances out of my control. Dave has acknowledged this here publicly on line and is still an extremely happy member of the Red R Racing family.

On the other hand (insert forum menbers name here) doesn't want anthing to do with you or (insert name here) and is very unhappy with the way you dealt with him and the situation. He has moved on to another builder to have his work done.

nothing like a few home truth's eh.

I'm not trying to have a go at you, i'm just trying point out that it is not a good practice to defame other workshops/builders. I only wish I could sell myself as good as you, if your half as good at building as you are at being a salesmen you'll do alright. I hope your business does well, after seven years I know how hard it is to make money in this market and all the workshops around here that have closed because of this.

p.s. I only read about this engine blowing up yesterday and it took me back to what you said about steve's car, so why did it blow up anyway? I don't have time to go back and read what happened.

I dont own a business Nathan, i help guys out when ive got time with engines due to the fact i was sick of seeing people get ripped with shotty work. There are reasons other than money why i do this and i think that if money was my only motivation for building engines than its time to do something else. Its something i have a passion for and that i have a knack at. I am moving to Melbourne soon to take over a well known existing venture down there, ill get serious then. I don't need to sell myself, my cars and people ive done the right thing by in the past does that for me. Its good to hear a reply from you, you might have to do a little research before you open your mouth or your keyboard.

If you had come to me at Superlap and acted a little bit more adult about your issue it would have been listened to and discussed. Im open to chat with anyone that shows a little respect and manners.

heya guys, im new to the gtr scene, (not the car scene had my 33 about 8 years ago and have had a few rides since then) but im looking for a GTR at the moment, either find something with a built engine or hunt for a cheaper gtr and get a engine built. now ive seen a few built down here with no real oil restriction and with a bit of research ive noticed the oil starvation is a major prob for the 26 so any help directed to me would be appreaciated

whats the price list on the parts put up on the first page

what parts are recommended? asin pistons (including size) rods ect i was looking more towards the CP piston with eagle or corrilo rods

i think its a oil restrictor, head to sump drain, n1 pump and sump baffle are the main helpers?

DIRTgarage what kind o coin is needed for you to build a engine for me?

i migth go speak to the guys at willall racing down here see what they recommend

If the engine had failed due to shotty workman ship do you think i would be going back to Paul for another engine to be built?

I think not.

The fact Paul even bothered to help me with this current buid is a credit to him, most builders would have moved on to another engine, charged me for a full rebuild or simply said no.

Paul makes little to no money on these engines and as he has stated builds them because of what some people find hard to believe, passion.

After all the running around sourcing parts ect ect, if he makes a little coin out of it at the end, then good luck to him!

So before you jump on your high horse do a bit of reading so you dont look like a fool on the forum.

Lets get back on topic shall we :)

If you don't mind me asking, how loud was the belt before the failure?
