My friend has an R32 GTS, which has developed a noise coming from the fan.

I believe the fan clutch has siezed, so at 3500rpm, the fan is moving faster than it should which causes the noise.

I can manually turn the fan, there is a bit of resistance.

Does someone with some RB20 knowledge, know if:

(1) should you should be able to spin the fan freely or not? ie, spin and take your hand off and the fan keeps moving for how long?

(2) what should the fan do on a cold startup?

(3) is the best repair option to get a new clutch from the wreckers, or a new one?

(4) how quickly should it be repaired, and is it true that the fan can let go if it spins to fast, and go through your bonnet etc.?

Thanks for any help guys
