phunky I am unaware as to why you have entered Open Class? Is your car stripped? or have carbon body panels? no cat?

No cat, stripped, semi slicks Nathan :D

It'd be easy to put the trim and cat back in, but I want to run on R comps.

Steve: Sounds good!

The Renault is fine I am guessing that it will need to be in Open Class tho. The corvair however is a rear engine'd flat 6 yes?

Cheers

-Nathan

Actually they both are rear engined. I was just trying to make the point that when drafting regulations you have to be a bit carefull of unintended consequences.

But doubtless you already know that.

Yes we did know that. But we have designed the rules around Japanese cars not anything else as this is where our main aim for this event is- the japanese car scene as you will see by our sponsors. It would be unfair to expect people such as we have involved already to benefit from a field of porsches or the like.

Cheers

noddy

i think there is a practice run next month, we have never been there either but i am told it is fantastic!

i will let ya know when the practice day is as we will be treking down there, all going well

cheers russ

I am keen to do a practice run also as I have not done GP circuit

Plus would love to finally see your car!! :P

dam you all you young wipper snappers :D (26 'ere...)

Yeah..you tell'em chubbs ;) (26'ere..)

So Nathan superlap guru if you dont put your form in for EOI you might miss out on a spot??

Far out what a huge thread already and so much interest is great. So much competition is great also. I think I will get a front diff in my car. Is that even aloud Superlap guru Nathan?? Might do that when I get my roof mount intercooler and sick chromies.

Seriously though this is going to be huge and overdue. Mark my words it will quickly become the fastest growing form of motorsport in Australia if not the world.

Well it is/was already popular. Just that the fuly sik brigade was largely ignorant of its existance.

Thanks to a few magazines hype-mongering those happy days have now passed. This is from near on three years ago....

AGREE 1000%. More power to the ppl running this, but these style events have been around for years before i even got a licence, only they were run by non profit car clubs where spectators got in for free.

This event complements the existing Super Sprint and Club Sprints nicely, by hopefully uniting different cars from different clubs from different states. But its hardly new. Hell there are 60 yr old blokes out there with V8 MGs that wiull blow the doors off most of the cars entered :D

But its hardly new, but it will introduce a whole lot of of mindless idiots who know nothing about motorsport other then what they have watched on a BMI Grip Video :)

But thats cool, it means they will think my car is the quickest because its the loudest... :)

Maybe they will one day learn (the fully sik brigade, that is) that the quick people are the ones who tend not to say much, nor explain much but who just go out on the circuit & hose everyone. :D

On the upside it may demonstrate to a few people that talking a good lap & driving one are two different things. On the downside it will wear my teeth down because I grind them whenever I hear the words grip driving or time attack or hearing people saying stupid shit like "If you fit such and such you will improve by 2 seconds a lap" or whatever. Phaark me finding 2/10ths is a bloody good day.

Anyway I hope this thing is a great success & flushes out some good cars from some good workshops. Not the bling graphics/leather interior chrommies stuff but the proper track tuned goodness that is usually hiding beneath a dust cover in a corner somewhere. :D

LOL, you bitter Old Man, sounds like you and I should keep a good distance from one another. Put in the same room we could be heard miles away with our mindless whinging and carry on :D

It is good to see something like this get off the ground. I am ALL FOR making the sport bigger and better. My only reservation...and its only a small concern, but i just fear it may mean that at club sprint days you may no longer be able to leave mag wheels, tools, cameras laying around...as if interest is found in the wrong sort of circles then certain spectators may end up hurting the sport. or certain competitors not respecting that these events rely largely on ithe ntegirty of competitors...who if found doing the wrong thing could mean these events become even harder to run. :D

Which list are you reffering to?

Entry list

..but then i remembered its only an EOI list - sorry mate im scattered today

EDIT: I see that you have anyway

    • Ah right. Maybe my rb just loves chewing through batteries lol.
    • On the R34 can't you just unplug the IACV? This is the way I've always done it on the R33. Disconnect IACV, get it idling around 650rpm, and then do a power reset on the ECU to get it to relearn idle (factory ECU).   The big reason no one has touched on as to why you'd want to get the base idle right, is that it means the computer needs to make smaller adjustments to get a good idle at 700-750rpm.   Also, cleaning the IACV won't normally make the car suddenly idle lower or higher. The main issue with the IACV gumming up is that the valve sticks. This means the inputs the ECU gives, aren't translating to changes in air flow. This can cause idle choppy ness as the ECU is now needing to give a lot of input to get movement, but then it moves too far, and then has to do the same in reverse, and it can mean the ECU can't catch stalls quickly either.
    • 12.8 for a great condition, fully charged battery. If the battery will only ever properly charge to about 12.2V, the battery is well worn, and will be dead soon. When I say properly charge, I mean disconnect it from the car, charge it to its max, and then put your multimeter on it, and see what it reads about an hour later. Dieing batteries will hold a higher "surface charge", but the minutest load, even from just a multimeter (which in the scheme of things is considered totally irrelevant, especially at this level) will be enough over an hour to make the surface charge disappear.   I spend wayyy too much time analysing battery voltages for customers when they whinge that our equipment (telematics device) is causing their battery to drain all the time. Nearly every case I can call it within about 2 months of when the battery will be completely dead. Our bigger customers don't even debate it with me any more ha ha ha. A battery at 12.4 to 12.6 I'd still be happy enough with. However, there's a lot of things that can cause a parasitic draw in a car, first of which is alarms and immobilisers. To start checking, put your multimeter into amps, (and then connect it properly) and measure your power draw with everything off. Typical car battery is about 40aH. Realistically, you'll get about half this before the car won't start. So a 100mA power drain will see you pretty much near unstartable in 8 days.
    • Car should sit at 12.2 or more, maybe 12.6 or 12.7 when fully charged and happy. If there is a decent enough parasitic load then it will certainly go lower than 12.2 with time. You can't beat physics.
    • Ok guess I can rule out the battery, probably even the starter and alternator (maybe) as well. I'm gonna clean those leads and see what happens if it's still shit I might take it to an auto electrician. Unless the immobiliser is that f**king heavy, but it shouldn't be.  If I start the car every day, starts up perfectly never an issue. Isn't 12v low, shouldn't it be around 12.5v?
