Looks like the Federal 595RS will be accepted in clubman, anyone had any experiences with them???

James used to run them on his EVO. They were good enough for me to win a DECA day on in his car - but you will be crying like a girl all weekend Jack if you go the street class option with the lack of grip compared to what you are used to.

The question I think you need to ask yourself Jack - especially for this first one - is do you really want to go and spend $2-3K on a set of tyres for the chance to win $500 and a plastic trophy OR do you go with your car as you really use it and see exactly where it stacks up to the big competition and otherwise have some fun. Thats the question I'd face as well.

about the same as the v8 super taxis I think, maybe a second or 2 slower but that is all.

Shoot, I hope not

Would a Snowman Versus GT (in the Toll car last year) comparison be meaningful?

Phillip Island 1.47 Vs 1.34

Sandown 1.19 Vs 1.10

Winton 1.34 Vs 1.23

Eastern Creek 1.50.1 Vs 1.32

Barbagallo 1.05 Vs 56

Maybe not.......................different cars etc

From memory (always dangerous) GT did a 1.09 last year at OP and the Improved Production lap record (Lofty in the GTR) is 1.15. So it will be interesting to see how much faster it goes sans restrictors. :)

Cheers

Gary

I reckon the top pace will be somewhere in the low teens. even the front runners in clubsprint class will be in the high teens. anything over a 20 wont put you in the top 5 in either class. :) (which sees me somewhere down the back!)

Gary, have you had your GTSt out there when it had the RB20? IAny idea of times? I have never done GP track so have no idea of times. On street tyres and std turbo i think my best was a 55.2 or 54.2 or something around the short track. Its been years since i have been there :)

If Adz wants to take my car up with his i would love for him to give it a steer. Be interesting how close my car can get to his. All i ask for is an sms to say that my car is quicker then NSW GTRs

Don't use my times - I'm a hack. And half of my times are in other peoples cars. Use JP's times for a better indication. Whats he - 43's at EC and 45's at PI - both of those are "grip" tracks which I think is similar to OP right. (not like say Sandown which is purely HP).

So having a look at Johns times at OP and then going by what the "fast" guys do at PI an EC do I reckon a time around 1.12 is going to be pretty damn competative.

V8 in qualifying do 8's!!!!! As if we could go that fast.

I agree low teen's or 12's. I have done low teen's in the little Lotus.

I know somebody that said that he has done a 12 in his GTR........I am not sure of it though as that is mega fast on radials.

There are so many days at Oran. There is the 1st round of the NSW State Supersprint Championship on this weekend.

To do a 15 sec lap around the GP you need to be doing a 46sec lap around the south.

Hey Duncan

If you are building your car to Sports Sedans, is it going to be AWD????

The Sports Sedan Association are currently trying to change the rules so that they can BAN AWD vehicles.

Can anybody tell me if this event is a one lap screamer or as I thought, we are going to have 10 minute or so sessions out on the circuit. If it is a one lap screamer that is CR*P.

Around 1.19 from memory, that was with A032R's on a perfect day. I am hoping for a 1.15 with the RB30, but it depends on how much testing time we get between now and then. Aside from the obvious engine (RB31DET) and gearbox (R33GTST) changes there are also different rotors, pads, shocks, springs, bars, roll cage......even the instruments and data logging are different. Big learning curve to negotiate both on set up and driving (I'm rusty, very rusty).

Its a good mix of corners. The south circuit is a lot more flowing then the GP circuit which has lots of tighter 2ng gear corners. I imagine the AWD guys will be able to blaze out some of the slower corners and up over the bridge. Will be interesting actually to see how everyone goes the first time out. But the GP track will mean that it is biased towards the point and shoot, so good power delivery and traction out of slow corners. But then the final complexes of corners flow much nicer and are much higher speeds.

Will be interesting to see who actually turns wheels in anger and the times ppl get. The local guys no doubt will have ahige advantage over the interstate guys as OP is a pretty challenging circuit

mmm, I see your point. But tyres would cost me around $1.5k and I'd need new RE55s anyway coz after PI this weekend they'll be shagged. So I have to spend the money on tyres regardless.

Really undecided now, the thing is I've never been to OP so in choosing clubman class I might be in the top 10, whereas open class will definetly see me towards the back......

Will have to sleep on it...

True Jack, but then you've just spent $1500 on an inferior tyre that's not going to be good for anything else. I thought the same thing mate, but it's not worth it. I'd rather race in open class and have my arse handed to me (I probably would in Clubman anyway :)), but have some fun and not blow money on tyres I don't want.

Time to stir the pot me thinks :)

In the open class it states-

What is defined as a modification of the original body?

- cut out oem front doors?

- frp/carbon panels?

- lexan windows?

- flares?

- tubbed guards?

- firewall/trans tunnel mods?

- rear doors removed and replaced with frp silhouettes

- engine placement alterations?

I ask only because these are plausible allowances within the above statement plus of course they are alterations Im undertaking for my current car and it will all be done to the original chassis/body with no spaceframe utilisation.

The only thing with your above questions I have an issue with is the engine placement. The vehicles must retain the original look of the vehicle from the factory ( obviously wide body kits etc are fine ) This goes for the inside of the car aswell. So you can move the engine back by slightly modifying the fire wall but you can not mid mount the engine or anything that crazy.

Hope this answered your questions.

Cheers

Hey Bozman good to see you on here yappin it up with the guys. I was going to see if you were available but see you are snapped up already?

I last did GP circuit a few years back and my car is much better now, and best then was 1 min 18.0 with me driving. I think 1 15 would be nice and with good conditions and more improvements to the car we have planned I would think a second or so better and if Bozzo driving another sec or two. I am sure with the calibre of cars coming and over time improve with sets ups etc who knows 1 min 10 is possible takes some dollars too. But that is flopping flying and Bozzo knows more than any of us here re this subject. See what happens when the rubber meets it.

Hey Bozzo has that Lotus had many changes, as seems a lot faster in comparision to Wakey or maybe more suited to Oran? Waht is your best at Wakey as thought is was 1 min 5 something?

RE55s aren't eligible for clubsprint class. hence the "I don't want to spend $1500 on tyres I don't want". for open class I'm sure lots of people will be on them.

    • Thanks for that Paul.  Do you think if I posted a picture you'd be able to remember where it went?
    • Sorry Duncan, I didn't get a notification for the replies.  Thanks for responding!  It's a full Android device, but does allow you to use CarPlay/AA as well.  This is the one I bought from NaviRS on AliExpress: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006368602668.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.111.59aa1802JDzQ0E - the 2K 8G-256G CAM variant but it seems to have gone up by £170 since I bought it!  My purchase was £307.14.   It's not the fastest thing in the world but performs perfectly adequately.  It stays on standby unless I disconnect the battery and let it power down, then it's just a fairly standard Android bootup time from cold.  The DSP Equaliser is very nice and made the standard stereo system sound pretty decent compared to the stock screen.  Perhaps I can take a video of it when I get a sec. It *allegedly* supports the reverse camera, but I'm yet to get that working.  It has options for reverse cam (a camera unit can be bought separately) or 360 cameras (also bought separately).  To be fair it doesn't seem to detect that the shifter was put into reverse but I'm working on a theory about this as well.  At the moment I'm going without which is a bit annoying considering the car is an absolute canal barge but so far I haven't caused any damage I'll grab a picture of the wire I'm missing later today when I can get outside.  My theory, by the by, is that not only is the head unit different, but the CANBUS network has different signals for the different years.  I think this because I have a spare AC panel from a newer Infiniti G37 (as opposed to my Nissan panel) which wouldn't control anything except the volume when I had it wired up with the stock system.  I'm going to throw it back in and see if the screen will respond to it.  I've just ordered an arduino CANBUS module so I can have a look at the signals going around the car and see if I can spot anything.  I'm thinking if I can work out what it's expecting vs what it's getting I might be able to translate and relay the signal back but so far just a theory anyway. I also found this on my travels, so far the only one that specifically matches my car: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002822934280.html?spm=a2g0s.imconversation.0.0.33433e5fgttovi If you look at the picture of the before, it has the card reader slot, and the picture of the head unit is exactly the same as the one pictured in my original post.  I asked if they sell the cables separately but sadly they won't.  I didn't want to just buy this one because it's a super old Android version and only dual core - likely slow as hell.
    • As above, you did refill the coolant and burp the system before running it again didn't you?
    • To be fair - you see the same thing for every clutch. There's always someone making an installation error.
    • Just saw this, redacted names. It's on a R33 GTS-t Facebook group. Looks like still teething issues.
