Guys you have to realise that some of the rules are still not finalised as we are waiting to hear back from cams. We have put the cage ruling in Open Class INCASE that cams come back and say that you WILL need one. If they say you wont need one then the rule will be gone. But we would rather tell people they need them and then they not need them rather than say you dont need one then turn around when cams get back to us and say oh wait you do need a cage sorry. Untill cams get back to us ( we have been waiting since before the website went live which we got rushed into ) then the safety rules are still open so dont get to worked up over it. And if it does come down to the fact that you do need a cage it will be a cams call not ours.

I assume you are running this event under a Speed Event Permit, since the results are determined by timing not finishing order (that's a race). Most likely Supersprint regualtions since you will have multiple cars on the circuit at the same time. If that is the case then ROP's have never been a requirement ("non manadatory" in CAMS speak).

Our applied definition at a Speed Event is that if the car has been "lightened significantly" we insist on ROP. Lightweight bonnets and boots are OK, but once you get into things like doors and total interior stripping, then some form of ROP is the go. Since it is not a CAMS requirement, but something we add at our level, then we determin if the ROP is suitable. Hence "Japanese" brand name roll cages are acceptable, although we prefer the CAMS approved and maker certified ROP's.

Keeping the above in mind, I doubt that you will get a response from CAMS, it's all in the Manual (reference Roll Over Protection in Speed Events).

Cheers

That is my understanding. The regs dont stipulate whether the sessions must be constrained by laps or a max duration so you would be able to get a Speed Event Permit, Supersprint or Other Event which most Sprint rounds are run under. Just that the winner is th elowerst time, not who crosses the finish line first.

So in that case change the wording to "recommended" and you basically have two wide ranging classes that can accomodate almost anyone.

If you ask around several forums, car clubs then you will be able to find people to help with such an event, from scrutineers, officials etc who will be able to perhaps better assist with the event. CAMS, good and bad may not be the best people to help you framing your regs. Grab a handbook and have all the asnwers ready in case they start questioning your application for a permit.

I imagine the OHS aspects of this will be a ball ache, especially since you will having paying public there. But again, if you ask around Car Clubs etc you will be able to find ppl willing to help with that. I gave up the scrutineering gig as i didnt enjoy the experience, but some enjoy it :D

Actually, sice its Oran Park why not go AASA?

To get an idea and put in perspective re times, see below some times of some times of Oran GP of SPorts sedans and others. The Sports Sedans times vary a lot, the quickest ones 1 min 12, and very some very serious cars, tube frame, big wheels with slicks, fibrerglass bodies and massive aero and engines sitting next to them with big power and very light.

I would assume conditions were not wet with these times.

Sports Sedans

Production Sports Cars which are fairly modified and run slicks I believe.

Prod Sports

Porche Day and see down bottom Bruce Hibbard 700hp GT2 with perspex windows and sequential gear box, Motec etc etc and slicks?

Porsche TImes

I was speaking with one of the guys entering Open Class in a GTR who claims he does a 1:12 on the GP Circuit on rubbish semi's. I think times will be interesting on the day we may see some extremely fast times.

This thread is very funny at times.

Yes Jason reckons he does 12's on retreads ;) because he was following a car that said they were doing 12's. Did Jason have any timing devices....um no

So yes it will be interesting once we have some official timing on the track :D

I think Lofty will go close to doing a 12 as the car is going on a severe diet and a huge horsepower increase for this event ;)

Our guy runs 1:10's...albeit in a Supertourer. I do 4:10's on my Avanti road cycle...does it matter?

Who gives a sh1t about classes, regulations, handicaps etc...lets just go, race and have a great time.(and most importantly a drink and bullsh1t session afterwards)

and i thought drag race threads were full of crap!

The exact reason why I said "claims" :(

Chris - No they will not have to pay for entry.

and the drinking should be good

:/

What happens if it rains?????

Does it still go ahead???

Of course it will still go ahead, it's not drag racing you know :/

I'll just change the entry to the Stagea, it's good in the wet :/

Times, I don't beer talk I have an in car timer, no hand timing or car in front telling me and car behind tells me, and I looked faster so.... blab la bla. As I said when the rubber meets it then it all stops.

By the way I have not told anyone this yet but I have snuck out recently to Oran Park GP and have done lots of practice and set up changes, and on old tyres and windy day I did a 1 min 14.4.

To prove this I had semi independent witnesses, my wife and kids were there and can vouch for me, even the mother in law and a mate, I might add it was in a V8 Supercar on Play Station.

Hey if it rains even though zeds like lots of water I think Nathan Superlap should double the handicap for no front diff.

Re catagories and rules etc who cares. Hey what, isn't that what racing is all about otherwise no goal posts it is just another trackday. Sounds like a cop out. What trophies for the car that looks the fastest and looks the go, or the most Unique Zed??? Yes will have a big time anyway and I say Beer Baron should do some research on a watering hole and run the social event afterwards?? Or has Superlap have something in mind, I don’t want to upset things.

    • Hey guys I don't visit the forums anymore so not even sure how I found this thread but here it is, what a shock.  I'm so glad Neil and Mel got out of Sydney and had some relaxing fun time before this happened.  Neil is a great bloke and will be sadly missed.
    • My OCD says that exhaust is sticking way to far out for a BMW.   Sorry for making you now upset with your exhaust again...
    • That is not true. The R32 GTR wiring diagram is freely available and has been for literally 25 years. And you don't even actually need it because the situation is so simple that you literally only have to use the wire that runs to the original dash indicator. Your car has a problem. That problem is unique to your car. I assure you that if I went out and did it to my car right now, it would work.
    • Thanks man, yes unfortunately normal bar went on after a minor accident. Smash repairer ordered the wrong version, needed my daily driver back asap so just accepted it.  Hoping an aero bar in gun metal grey (KH2?) pops up for sale soon, I know paint from different cars won't match perfectly but will look good enough
    • If it is the case that your stock dash high beam light lights up as it should, all you have to do is tap into the power wire for the high beams dash globe and feed it to pin 25 on the Haltech dash.
