The RX7 didnt do himself any favours driving down the pit lane the wrong way, then driving around the track in the manner he did. Surely the officials needed to be tougher on entrants doing the wrong thing? But was very well run for a first outing.

He was a funny guy,,,Lets see if I can remember his pit lane fun. 1st he drives down pit lane on his mobile through someone elses garage,,,then reversed back up pit lane to his garage. Then he drives again out of his garage through somone elses garage,,,does a u-turn and then drives forward up the wrong way of pit lane and back into his garage. Crazyest shit I have ever seen. Oh and every 15 minutes he starts it so some poor bastard has to change his plugs,,Not forgetting everytime he goes out he's more than happy to drive over the massive oil spill from a dead drift junk box.

Ya gotta love smoking fags in pit lane as well.

Got another one,,,what about the E30 M3 guy entering the track with an evo barrelling done the straight.

Marshalls are needed,,,if this supersprint happens again.

Neil.

Yeh, i have lots of feelings on that aspect of the event. Overall its important to stay positive as overall it was a success from my point of view as a spectator. But, this sort of stuff is only going to get worse as more ppl are attracted to the sport and dont pay attention in driver briefings who have never competed in these sorts of events. People sitting on pit wall, back to track, smoking talking etc etc. We all do it and need to be reminded that we have to be looking at the track. Its a dangerous place to be standing. Then, even the experienced guys go and do craxy things like punting other cars up the ass under brakes :)

That side of things really needs to grow with the event , which i am sure it will

What an awesome event :D

Thankyou so much JP for letting me drive the ZED. I thought we did pretty well considering the level of competition. It has been a long time since I have driven the ZED, and quickly realised it needed a miner change to make it faster for the day. It was not an easy change to do, so we just drove it as it was. To come home 6th outright and fastest RWD 6 cylinder was an awesome effort. To the crew, friends and family, thankyou for your help, support, good humour, food and coffee. The ZED will certainly be faster next time. I must say, I cannot get over how big the power slides were in the ZED.......it certainly does not need anymore power to make it faster :PBJ:

To my 2nd car, the little S2000 :P

Elias, you are a champion. Knowing how busy you are with your normal business, it was an amazing effort to get the little Honda to superlap. The engine was only put back together on thursday. The car was suppose to get its brakes sorted on thursday and friday, but never really did. So Elias had some spare calipers, put some new pads and fluid in and we just crossed our fingers. That car has never had a test and tune day, so we did not know what to expect. First session we got a low 18 on a damp track, which was actually good enough to win the day. The 2nd session the track was warmer and without water we cranked out a 17.1. During that session the car lost boost, as I was wanting a 16. The boys did an awesome job to get it back together for the afternoon. I used the last session to practise for the shootout. It was great feeling the car walk around on the big tread blocks on the tyres that we had to use.

We will certainly be back with the Honda again to have another crack :ban:

We ended up with a 17.4 or 17.5 in the shootout which gave us the win for both outright and shootout. I thought it was great to have the little rear drive, 4 cylinder in front of so many other cars. The next rear driver was in 12th outright. We ended taking out editors choice award from Fast Fours as well. Thanks!!!!!

That is what superlap is about. Having such a different sort of vehicle battling it out with the normal style of track weapons.

Thanks to the EVO crew for sharing the garages with us :)

And thankyou to the organisers and sponsors for all of the effort and faith you had in this style of event. Hopefully it has given you a positive outlook so that these events can continue to happen. It requires alot of money and guts to do this, and for a first up effort well done :(

PS best presented went to LOFTY and the BSM crew. Well deserved for all of the effort those boys have put in. Pity about the gear stick Dave!!!!!!!!!!

I have just finished working at oran park today teaching rally driving, so I am off to bed.

On a serious note, we need to do something about all of the people just walking down the middle of pitlane. When I was practising for the shootout in the 3rd session, I came into the pits about 3 times and had to giveway to the pedestrians that had no idea, and had there backs to me walking down the middle of the pits.

No doubt the next event will be better again. Big problem cars are only going to go faster, which means some of us will get left further behind :P

Your more than likely right Troy, but to do the clubsprint class again would mean doing a lot of prctice on street tyres or getting an evo. :)

A bit hard to compare. The S2000 was driven to and from the track!!!!!!

All of the serious cars in open have cages, proper circuit mods, etc

The S2000 was/is a daily driver. The engine had 50,000km's before this week.

Yes, it is a weapon though.

Great event, awesome trip. Thanks JAGR33 for the lift in the truck...

Was a bigger challenge than I thought it would be, new tricky track for the first time on street tyres. I'm more used to the power, braking and cornering of RE55s... Was plenty of fun though.

My feedback....

AWESOME event. This is what has been needed in Australia for a long time. A great way for all the tuning shops and customers of tuning shops and the backyard mechanics who build great cars to get them on the track on the same day and battle it out....

I hope that the event picks up momentum and becomes a regular thing. There are some serious cars getting around in Sydney.

Only damper was Brett Middleton, who happens to be a complete tosser, ran into the back of my 34 on the corner before the straight wrecking my hand made exhaust and damaging my rear bar. What a fricking idiot. I thought this was a sprint event, not a hardcore race for 100K in prize money. He tells me it is a racing incident and it was my fault for braking too early...mmm.... Farking stupid muther. A good few grand damage... I am now shopping for an old rusty WRX to enter into every event he enters so I can ram him into the wall and call it a racing incident...

i was there as a speci. i thought it was a great day was goin 2 go have a chat 2 sa few of you boys and girls but didnt get 2. there was quite a few quick cars and alot that were nuts. every lap without fail that red 32gtr from trp was sidways coming onto the main striaght. the only thing i didnt like about it was the fact there was no marshals on the track we were at the last corner when the evo hit the wall and rolled and he was in the car 4 a while and no1 was there 2 help i almost felt like jumping the fence 2 c if he was ok but my mates stoped me. and then when the dark grey 32 hit the wall and bounced back onto the track there was no warning for drivers coming up behind then when the next group came out the track was covered in gravel and alot of the cars were sliding and another car almost hit the wall cause of it.

Was any1 on here the owner of the 32 that hit the wall it looked like a hard hit as it hit dead side on at full speed?

Congrats 2 all the winners there and 2 nathan for giving every1 over the back sum entertainment when he drifted in his last session, gettin practice for the final round of da :)

Well said Aaron34!

Mate Id be pissed too, extremely pissed!!!! I almost had an incident with the QSR RX7, I was pretty angry with that (not as angry as you would have been though) as you said, its a sprint, not door to door racing. SAU VIC to sponser your WRX?

I agree with the comments of some people treating it like a race however I also noticed many cars bunched up together tripping over each other.

It's a sprint event - get everything up to temp, find some clear track and do a quick lap or 2 then back it off, get some more space then another quick lap or 2. I think some people treated it like a regular track day trying to get as many laps as possible when it was purely about laptimes.

Your more than likely right Troy, but to do the clubsprint class again would mean doing a lot of prctice on street tyres or getting an evo. :P

Street tires have come a long way, my old man telling me in the 70's radial tires could beraly support 1g, now their over 2.5g so its not that far off from slicks besides the fact that slicks take longer to heat up. Perhaps the next best thing would be to invest in drag coefficiency over power mods.

Great event, good to see a proper time attack event held in Aus and hope it can continue to grow and become more popular.

What a great little track!!! Watching youtube videos don't do it justice, suits a very well balanced car rather than a horsepower car.

Feedback:

POSITIVE

- great format, especially the shootout, makes for some exciting racing, especially from a spectators point of view

- commentating, gives live results and is good to know what times the cars are doing and where they're placed instead of wondering over to the whiteboard after each class completes a session

- was great to meet some of the SAU NSW crew!!!

NEGATIVE

- poorly organised in the morning, resulted in a delayed start. Maybe get cars scrutineered much earlier or the night before??

- enforcement of superlap rules, did any body check any of the clubsprint cars if they had a 'working' catalytic converter??

- Did anybody check what tyres the clubsprint cars were running??

- pro drivers in clubsprint class. Seems like you have to throw a pro driver in your car to be competitive, kind of ruins the ethics of amatuers 'having a go' driving their own cars. Isn't that what the clubsprint class is all about?? If your too scared to drive your car by all means put a pro driver in it, but enter it in open class.

- Brett Middleton should have got an award for 'tool of the day'. How the fark do you ram another car from behind in an event like this, and he's supposedly an experienced driver. Not only did the fu(kwit not have the heart to come and say sorry or see what damage he caused, but had the ordasity to say once approached that it was Aarons fault for braking early. Good way to cost somebody thousands of dollars to their immaculate R34 GTR and end their day early, especially making the trek from Melb.

Congrats to all the competitors who participated, and to those who took trophies home, was good to see some of the fastest cars in the country at one track battling out. Look forward to the next one...

I would be interested to know the specs between Mark Berry's GTR and the the BSM GTR. ie drivetrain, suspension and engine. Very close times and from what could be seen, different suspension and engine setups.

Who were the pro drivers?

    • Realized I haven't been back here in a while. Still here, still alive, still waiting for the car.  I went back again the only time last year from Oct-Nov for R's Meeting and drove it around some more, including a few laps on Fuji Speedway(in the wet, sadly). The car still feels good, but have a couple small things to address. I've been getting more parts but have slowed down still, and most of the bigger purchases are now out of the way. I find myself getting impatient more and more when it comes to getting started on this project; it's quite hard for me not being able to really dive in and start making this car my own because it's halfway across the world. At times it doesn't even really feel like I own one of these. Haven't really been motivated or had the desire to document the last trip on here or social media for, well, reasons... but here's some pics...it's also still alive and well as you can see: I've narrowed down to the last large part purchases(anything over $2k) before the engine build to be: 1) Ohlins Road & Tracks 2) ATS Twin Carbon clutch 3) Endless BBK with some custom options and 4) Kansai Service carbon driveshaft I don't think the budget exists for all of these this year, but I'll try for one or two items I think. Though, every time I look at my spreadsheet I sigh, shake my head, and get depressed just that little bit more.  'til later.
    • It's a stunning location!  I've been to NZ twice but haven't made it to the North Island yet.  Definitely on the cards but the South Island is hard to tear yourself away from too... Looking forward to see what you can wring out of it once you can get it to hold together!  Be awesome to get a low 11 or even sneaking into the high 10's pass out of it.  That's a bloody quick car that most people will never experience in their life.  Enjoy!
    • Nominally yes but I’m not really at that stage yet. Outsourcing to Japan is also a relatively good deal at the moment because their currency has devalued much more against the USD.  You would assume this but a lot has changed from the pandemic. Mechanics are in short supply and demand for fixing old cars has gone up from the cost of new cars. 250-300 USD/hr is not an unusual shop labor rate in California and you’re paying that regardless of whether the guy is competent or not. Coworkers have been quoted 3000 USD for a water pump and thermostat at a dealer on an N54. Oil changes went from ~75 USD to 150 on fairly normal cars like Civics. The cost of the oil and filter hasn’t even kept up with inflation.
    • The downside to that is that the cost of everything, particularly labour, is significantly higher here than it is over there in the Disunited States of Slavery. You can hire 3 tradesmen over there for just the Ranger Raptor allowance of a single 3rd year apprentice over here.
    • Shit. Starting to look like a car again.
