LZY115
You GTR guys make me laugh. Dry Sumps, breather systems nail ppolish removers. Sheesh, i read everywhere they are king of the track. Just man up, throw bigger turbo on it, more boost and use a Gatorade bottle (i am a proud Aussie so i use Powerade) as a catch can. If the thing breathes then throw the 26 to the shitter and put a 20 in it. Nissan build a perfectly good, strong reliable track engine in the 20 I disagree, modified gtr's can suffer from oil starvation, its always good to be prepared (or you will end up looking like the rx7 guy) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/210939-superlap-timeattack-is-ago/page/86/#findComment-4007653 Share on other sites

260DET
so who owns this gtr? and was this the one with dry sump? Using that pic as an example, cutting corners deliberately so dirt is thrown on the track pisses others off, no shit to that car's driver, it may have been a genuine off. But some four wheel jivers do it deliberately, apparently its the fashionable thing to do Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/210939-superlap-timeattack-is-ago/page/86/#findComment-4007729 Share on other sites

Roy
I disagree, modified gtr's can suffer from oil starvation, its always good to be prepared (or you will end up looking like the rx7 guy) I think GTR owners have starvation issues as well. I mean with all the money spent on the car its little wonder there is no money left to eat properly Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/210939-superlap-timeattack-is-ago/page/86/#findComment-4007747 Share on other sites

260DET
there's a common misconception going around that to be fast you have to be smooth. This really only applies to cars with lots of aerodymanic grip. If you are running around perfectly smooth in a prod car even on semi slicks, you are loosing a bit of time. You only need to look back to any production based racing (Group A, Group C, or current Improved Production etc) and you will always see that the fast guys are running right on the edge like Boz in the S2000. Particularly when you are going for the fastest possible single lap from the car - like in qualy or in this case at Superlap. Its only when it gets 'too' sideways that its slower than being smooth. Yeh but Harry you are a biased rallyist A bit more seriously, what you say makes sense. For race blokes tyre preservation becomes paramount, for sprinters who no give a fark its different, hang it all out Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/210939-superlap-timeattack-is-ago/page/86/#findComment-4007824 Share on other sites

Bozman1
That pic above is not on purpose. That is the left hander through the esses at Oran. The apex is about four car lengths in front where his car is positioned. I think that is a classic mistake from turning in too early at the previous right hander Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/210939-superlap-timeattack-is-ago/page/86/#findComment-4007873 Share on other sites
TommO
Yeah I saw a lot of cars come off on that corner, they just couldn't make the 2nd corner in the esses... some rather close calls too Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/210939-superlap-timeattack-is-ago/page/86/#findComment-4008087 Share on other sites

The 4wd's do have a distinct advantage when cutting corners and as a result they drag dirt and crap on to the track. Thats a no brainer. With enough marshals,,,witches hats or ever soft flexable poles could be uses,,,touch one and you get a 5 second penalty. We use witches hats at some tight hillclimbs because the wrx's and evo's were actually shortening the track. Neil. BHDave
You can do it in a 2wd as well though, the committed driver has the out side wheels loaded right up and will take the tightest line possible. I don't have a particularly well setup or powerful car so i will take any advantage i can get! There's a great pic of boz in the s2000 with the front inside wheel in the air over the back of a ripple strip too. Markers on the inside penalize the experienced drivers, not the car type, on anything but the tightest corners. I can understand it on a hill climb where you have genuine 1/2 gear hairpins but a hair pin on a track is generally 2/3rd gear where the 2wd guys need to maintain corner speed and adjust their lines to make up for the improved drive out of a corner that the 4wd's have. benm
Here is a picture of the gunmetal gtr dry sump setup. That boot was absolutely covered in oil and it left a trail of oil on the ground everywhere it went out in the pits. This is the BSM setup, that car is immaculate from every angle... Nah mate I'm not jelious,,,what ever the hell that is. I think you mean jealous. .Actually my only interest is looking after the poor bastard following you thats now confronted with all the crap you and to a lesser extent bhdave leave in your wake. It's not a nice feeling being fully committed to a corner only to see some rude bastard that thinks that once you've used black you never go back. Neil. benm
Nah it was that gunmetal 1 pictured, as I took those pics a person got in it and drove off and it left an oil line all the way through the back pits until it was out of sight. I reckon their would have been easily 0.5L of oil just sitting in the spare wheel part of the boot - probably just a couple of loose fittings or something but I personally couldn't drive my car up and down my own driveway if it was like that let alone at a track.
