this thread is great, good solid discussion has kept me entertained for days! (a bit of rib poking just makes it better, as long as its kept civil)

I think this event is a great idea as long as there are a clear set of rules and they are actually enforced on the day... congrats to all that entered and gave it a go

I don't have a problem with Pro Drivers in open class... with all the money spent on these cars (and we are talking serious cash) why wouldn't you put the best driver behind the wheel you could afford? Especially if you are representing your business or sponsors... I can even see the benefit of them in Club class as well but I also don't think its particularily 'sporting'... there are only plastic trophies up for grabs at the end of the day

Great photos taken as well... its pretty easy to tell which are the 'pro' drivers as they all drive on the concrete verge behing the ripple strip... easier to do when your in someone else's car hehe;)

The real focus should be on making these a success in the future, not worrying about who did what and pointing fingers:)

oh almost forgot.... SAU Vic FTW!

Personally i don't mind who drives in clubsprint. I like the challenge and competition. But I can also understand the school of thought that Clubsprint should be for the club level competitor. I don't think any of the other drivers in Clubsprint would have got that S2000 within cooee of John's time. Maybe a seperate trophy for outright owner/driver would make both camps happy?

I'm glad I made the trip down to have a run there. I only went to have some fun driving round Oran Park before it closed in a very standard Supra, and mission accomplished - I had a hoot out there! Can't say the same for my left rear tyre though - lard-arse Supra vs 265/35 Federal 595SS = no contest. I ended up less than half a second away from the 3rd place 6cyl in Clubsprint and a solid midfield 17th outright, so I'm pretty pleased with that,. oh, and outright fastest Supra lol. I came away from the event very keen to get the Datto haulin as best as i can for next year's event. Vote 1 for Lakeside Superlap!!!

Well done to everyone who competed (well except those responsible for the epic fails - tail-ending another car and pit lane stupidity) and some great driving at the pointy ends of both fields were great to watch!

Already looking forward to a bigger and better 2009 Superlap! Congrats to the organisers for gettig this concept off the ground over here. I'm sure they learnt heaps from the first event and it will only improve from here.

yeah the s2000 is one hell of a car!! top job

and yeah i couldnt care if pro drivers are used either, but maybe should be limited to one car so extra laps cant be had compared to anyone else (just a thought i dont really care either way)

i personally love watching extremely fast cars being punted around a track on the absolute limit!! the times done this weekend is testament to that!! fantastic

Wow I just read the last few pages and what a yappin it was.

Bottom line is as the rules were Bozzo fitted it no problems, and is a true enthusiast competing in motorsport, and obviously talented. He is as bad as me amongst it six days a week and on day off competing motorsport. As mentioned though and in comparison to the other drivers in open class at least who have far more competition experience.

BTW we don't here Russ or Mark whinging at all about those pesky, sorry fast Lotuses. They have had probably the biggest commitment and probably biggest cost running the two cars in this event, and to be beaten by the Lotuses, and only to congratulate them on numerous occasions. Good Spirit.

Also well covered Peddler and maybe you should help run the future ones. Re marshals, one suggestion might be ask for volunteers even if for part of the day as costs could blow out otherwise. Obviously for certain jobs some experience will be necessary. But then almost anyone might be better than no one at all. The dude in the RX7 going backwards up the pits talking on his mobile was just gold.

Overall it was a great day and the best things is with constructive feedback it will only get better in the future.

Well done Ian from Hi Octane for having the vision. Also well done asking for feedback, but guys it is not a dumping ground of opinions, egos and criticism. It is not easy setting up and running this big event, and Hi Octane were not experienced or claiming to be, although learning fast. Let’s get behind it and make it work big time.

Now for more ammo to keep things going. DiRTgarage I luv your shoulda, woulda gunna talk, it might work with the drag boys but no one is buying it here..

Also Adz your car sounded tops and good result. How far behind me or sorry my car and Johnny Boston he ha were you?

I too have been kept entertained reading this thread. :(

Harry, I'm with you on the Qld round being at Lakeside.

Roy, if you come up for it we should share my car and take turns in running into the back of other cars, we'd get our 15 seconds of fame then..... we'd be the talk of the town ;)

I like the way you think. We will be running into the back of them because they are so flaming slow! The R32 GTSts were the class of the field :D

And Paul, this thread is not the place mate. Its not about naming and shaming and heated debates over invoice values. If you want to start a workshop war, then post up in NSW thread or something.

So, when is the next one. LOL, i can see myself walking into my new job and on the same day putting my leave application in so i can attend. Maybe i should take my car to the UK and compete in their series. Aus v UK :)

Roy i take no satisfaction in what i have just posted...the guy just needs to know when enough is enough. I stated several times to leave it behind but he couldnt help himself. He fired at me with a smartass line, i returned his paltry serve with a few home truths. I apoligise to others who are reading this thread who are genuinely interested in Superlap, the weekend and its results.

Russ, sorry i didn't catch back up with you mate, PM me your address and ill pop them in the post.

Was good to meet you guys.

FLop this is gold and very bold and unprofessional. Re catch can well it was for road car and budget ran out from doing more stuff, you set it up as track car???

Tune was fine and if you messed with it well I can't comment. Change diff in the car in 2 hours our Andrew is more thorough than that but sounds good. Tune car in driveway and rebuild engines in 5 hours I guess, Dirtgarage sweep the floor at least first. Stick to the facts without exaggerating or blaming and might be more believable. No mention from Dave to us prior t the Superlap and we spoke heaps. Nothing wrong with Dave's last motor around 250rwkw high flow turbo lasted a few years, until a T04Z was put on it up there under your banner or? and after it was brought to us and we fixed valve timing and tuned it remember and made 360rwkw and then came to a track day against my advice with NO OIL cooler. Then Newcastle floods finished it off and this is our fault somehow. Get off it.

I came up to your garage a few times and spoke to Dave which maybe you did not know, and Andrew on his day off with his small son with him and our Tim tried to help but you were all over it

Explanation was about the times you quoted and going to do and would have bla bla.

Chinese proverb Paul. "If you throw dirt in life you only lose ground yourself."

Workshop wars in here stop now. The only person anyone can bag shit out of in here is Brett Middleton because he's obviously a tosser - but the next one who does it to someone else will be delt with.

Lets just stick to discussing the event and the future of it as a sport here.

As a different topic for debate - I'm REALLY suprised no one has had a whinge about making rules requiring cars to run at least OEM manufacturer engines (i.e. Nissans must run a Nissan Engine - etc). What is to stop some of the crazy light weight kit cars coming in and just making a mockery of this event?

(I personally don't care but I could see some of the supporting workshops getting upset if this isn't watched surely?)

Yep good point and good point. Supporting workshops getting upset about engine swaps or slagging?

I think Hi Octane are exaclty or closely following the rules of Japan and England etc?

I am on long term project of putting a VQ38 in my car, which is Nissan 350 zed motor pumped with Darton sleave kit and 100mm pistons, so a very square revy motor, and about a hundred kg lighter.
