That car is a great example of useing quality Aussie bits and making it go on a well though out budget... He built most of the car himself using common tools around the workshop including his Hi-mount steam pipe manifold... he bought a To4 and a microtech... tuned it well using a truck core intercooler... really it is just some good planning and good tuning that has got it this far...

It just goes to show too that sometimes the cheap way isn't always the dogey way...

And I sent you some photos of some cars for sale... there are heaps of options... Just make a decision what you want before you go looking otherwise you will come away probably confused and with something that you don't really want... and there is nothing worse than having a crapper that you didn't really want to start off with...

hey holdens... you emailed me about my opinion on Silvias

well I think they are cool... they are a really well balanced car and have an excellent engine (SR20) that can be easily modified for alot of performance... actually I was just adding it up with a mate today about what I had spent on it... It was alot less than most people think... actually it came in under $2000 for motor mods to get me running a 13.7 @ 101mph recorded at Benaraby...

In my opinion that is a quick little toy for relativly little outlay... and mine was a Non-turbo when I purchased it... so I had to upgrade injectors and buy a manifold in that price... so if you bought a turbo I think a 13 with $2000 of mods would be a walk in the park... they already have good brakes... although a nice suspension kit goes along way to their looks... really though it comes down to what you like the look of...

Both Skylines and Silvias are excellent cars both to drive and as a starting ground for a project...

there is only one problem with putting a turbo on a non turbo car is the compression ratio. I know that u dont need to ron as much boost but it will eventually stuff your motor.

but what would you know man, your only a qualified mechanic and turbo enthusiast ...... but its has been built by a non-qulaified mechanic so it will last for ever ...... lol .. wow ...i crack me up sometimes.

Your kidding right? Dan I'm far from your mate ......

Hey matt in your famous words get over yourself he was not talking about you.

Dan and I sat down this arvo and worked our excatly how much his car owes him. From the original lay out of buying the car to the turbo, 18" wheels, clutch and all that.

So as you like to say

Get off your high horse and i can not believe that you think that highly of yourself that he was talking about you being a "friend"

What about nizmo's (jays old r32) 189000km and still going. It could do with a rebuild but what petrol motor 189000km old couldnt use one.

What about russel masons patrol. 3yrs on 18psi and still going strong and not really showing much sign of slowing down. at the last comp he won king of the mountian, and the dyno comp, with 300 rwhp.

Maybe the na turbo will work, maybe it wont but just see how it turns out. Both cars have been thrashed pretty hard and seem to be taking it well. Maybe we should give it a little more time to fully discover what putting a turbo on a na motor does to it and if it is bad for it or not.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Tell you what matt you crack me up too.

Nice cheap shot at us matt about my dad. I like it, not bad at all.:uh-huh:

YA CHAMP!!!

Just dont do it again OK.

Oh and if you dont believe DC about the prices, come to rocky on thrusday night, we will be more than happy to call everyone that he brought the parts off find out what he did pay for them, and we can even have a chat to pete to find out how much he paid for the turbo and what he sold it to dan for. Than you can leave, we will leave, all satisfied that the truth has won.

And then we will never have to speak to you, and you will never have to speak to us. When we see each other at lights we can just do nothing, no wave, no tough guy finger, which i have never seen.

Cause nothing would make me happier than to act like i never, ever knew you.

What ever Josh I'll believe you about those prices, just so you give up cause its only going to start another arguement.

And after reading what i wrote it does sound like I did take a cheap shot at your Dad, that was not the way it was meant to sound, I apolagise emensly, it was aimed at the discussion a few weeks ago about the whole qualified mechanic vs. Non-qualifed, as Dan said his car was supposedly built through engineering and not done by a qualified mechanic, it was not aimed at your old man. I have now changed the post so it doesn't sound like that.

    • Very decent bit of kit. Definitely black it out I reckon.
    • Because people who want that are buying euros. The people with the money to buy the aftermarket heads and blocks aren’t interested in efficiency or making -7 power, they’re making well over 1,000hp and pretty much only drive them at full throttle  best way to way make money is know your customer base and what they want and don’t spend money making things they don’t want.
    • It's not, but it does feel like a bit of a missed opportunity regardless. For example, what if the cylinder head was redesigned to fit a GDI fuel system? It's worth like two full points of compression ratio when looking at modern GDI turbo vs PFI turbo. I'm pretty reliably surprised at how much less turbo it takes to make similar power out of a modern engine vs something like an RB26. Something with roughly the same dimensions as a -7 on an S55 is making absolutely silly power numbers compared to an RB26. I know there's a ton of power loss from things like high tension rings, high viscosity oil, clutch fan, AWD standby loss, etc but it's something like 700 whp in an F80 M3 vs 400 whp in an R33 GTR. The stock TF035HL4W turbos in an F80 M3 are really rather dinky little things and that's enough to get 400 whp at 18 psi. This just seems unwise no? I thought the general approach is if you aren't knock limited the MFB50 should be held constant through the RPM range. So more timing with RPM, but less timing with more cylinder filling. A VE-based table should accordingly inverse the VE curve of the engine.
    • I've seen tunes from big name workshops with cars making in excess of 700kW and one thing that stood out to me, is that noone is bothering with torque management. Everyone is throwing in as much timing as the motor can take for a pull. Sure that yields pretty numbers on a dyno, but it's not keeping these motors together for more than a few squirts down the straight without blowing coolant or head gaskets. If tuners, paid a bit more attention and took timing out in the mid range, managed boost a bit better, you'll probably see less motors grenading. Not to name names, or anything like that, but I've seen a tune, from a pretty wild GT-R from a big name tuner and I was but perplexed on the amount of timing jammed into it. You would have expected a quite a bit less timing at peak torque versus near the limiter, but there was literally 3 degrees of difference. Sure you want to make as much as possible throughout the RPM range, but why? At the expense of blowing motors? Anyhow I think we've gone off topic enough once again lol.
    • Because that’s not what any of them are building these heads or blocks for. It’s to hold over over 1000hp at the wheels without breaking and none of that stuff is required to make power
