i agree with dave

there are lots of cars that run bush or journal style bearings and they last 100,000+

i dont suspect the bearing type would cause what you have experienced (unless installed incorrectly etc)

SOUNDS VERY UNLUCKY

it could be that both the highfows just havent been up to A1 standard

my slide highflow hasnt missed a beat in 18months of 1bar action

and that was with a dodgy-brothers backyard install job, where 1st fireup spat all the engine oil out lol (nut on oil line not tight enough)

make sure the oil is completely unrestricted from engine to turbo and back again.

Id suggest to get a brand name BB turbo this time round, such as a HKS 2530 for lighting response and 230rwkw (lets face it who needs 270+ lol) or a 2535 pro for more power if wanted.

search the net and you'll find a decent buy. BUT - what ecu setup are you running? have you got the z32afm, injectors, etc etc to use a 3071-turbo at 270rwkw?

anyway....bad luck, but good luck for the next one

Sorry to hear that mate, thats really bad luck. Go the 3071 or the 3076 ball bearing next time and you will be alright. I have been running a gcg hi flow for a couple of years and still all good. Unless both turbos were not rebuilt properly.

i am running all the supporting mods like power fc, 600cc injectors,z32 afm, tomei fuel pump, blitz fmic and all that.

i have supporting mods for 300rwk just incase i ever wanted to upgrade in future.

looks like the time has come :D

My slide highflow is still running awesomely as well....my one was one of the first batch so probably had extra love during manufacture :D

Seriously though, when I dropped the dump pipe of recently, it had less play that the original R34 BB turbo...which was also bugger-all

R33GOD, you haven't got an issue with the oil gallery that feeds your oil pressure line by any chance...2 turbo's on the same block spells an underlying issue.

i dont know. all i know is i used larger braided oil lines as i was told to.

would a dying oil pump be the issue??? (seems fine on the oil pressure gauge) what else could it be if this was the case??

Dont know if any of you have noticed, but the ones that keep breaking are all journal highflows..

Random? I think not..

Nothing to do with the cartridge (bearing) type :D

Without the failure analysis report from MTQ (post up when you get it) a lot of stuff will be speculation

well said dude, mine has been on for about 14months,done 18k,not a problem, will be going on my rebuilt motor, hoping for 350hp at wheels!have new denso highflow fuel pump in car, will get 550cc injectors, motor will have forged pistions and good set of conrods,so dont have to worry about it when putting a even bigger turbo on it if turbo blows, which i think wont happen!

i am stuck in 2 minds for these internally gated turbos.

gt3071R or gt3076R. Do they both come with .72 exh housings?

Just go have a look at the Garret Website mate! Got all the info there for ya!!

http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbobygarre...R_700382_12.htm

thanks for those pages but i dont know what im looking at.

what means what? is the exducer the rear housing size?? a/r?? it has 2 sections: compressor, and turbine.

this is the 3071r :

and the 3076r

someone please educate me on this.Ive only ever ordered hiflows..just cause they are bigger.. which one do i need for the power i want? i know i definately dont want the smaller rear housing or the biggest. something with fullboost by 3700-3800 where i can make 260-270 odd at 15-16psi.

you have very low expectations.

3076 will have that response and make a fair bit more power

3071 will have significantly better response and make that power.

Why 15-16psi? Thats not a lot of boost. Id suggest cams if you want to gain power but still run lowish boost.

The 3071 cart you have listed has the cropped turbine. With your reference to the .71 housing i assume you are chasing one with a copy OP6 housing? Thats the right cart for that housing. SimonR32 has some good results with that one.

thanks for the info guys.

i do want to find this problem of comp wheels blowing. would a modified stock bov do this as it always compressor surges no matter what?? i have blocked the bleeder hole in the stock bov and squashed the bov right down..

oil pressure is fine and oil color is perfect.

i just dont know where to begin to find out why this is happening or if its just another dud turbo..

im really keen on the 3076r at this stage. with the .7 rear housing.

do they come with that size from garrett ?

only thing is, would it require a specer to the manifold as it is still going to be low mounted
