i have a question, if you only have third party, why would you bother going to Just cars? and get hammered by the excess when you need to make a claim

Cant you get insurance through the bigger boys (NRMA, AAMI, etc....)

Sorry Ive never had just 3rd party so Im not sure if they go through the normal shit of insuring the not so modified cars......

not sure if somebodies mention it. didnt get time to read the whole thread

but in an incident my mum had.

She rear ended an old ass commodore, which was worth probably no more than $4,000

From what i saw, the damage, was simply replacing the rear bar, and maybe a bit here and there.

Yet the insurance company sent the letter, with a bill of (can't exactly remember) but somewhere over $3,500.

I was later told that AAMI, ('Just car' is their subsidiary), really over charge, like dramatically.... i'm not sure why

but i'd assume, same thing goes with just car.

Although insurance did take care of it. :D

Well I think the answer is obvious, your only choice here is to pay up the $1700 and be done with it.

Shit happens - you'd have done exactly the same thing this person did if you were the one who had the car rear ended. I don't think they're trying to screw you over. $1700 isn't a lot of money it could have been ALOT worse.

ive been in a similar situation. if it hasnt been repaired yet tell them to bring you 3 quotes. tell them to go to 2 places of their choice and you pick a place and tell em to get a quote there too. and then tell them to go to the cheapest place. if they refuse then you can take it to court.

basicaly if your paying for it you choose where it goes to get fixed.

best way i think. that way you know your not getting ripped off.

umm unfortunately you're wrong.

Because I'm at fault. they have the choice of repairer. They don't have any obligation by law to get anymore than one quote. If they do it is out of their own good will or stupidity.

Think about it. Why would you, say if u got crashed, go to the cheapest repairer.. i'd go to the most expensive one just to ensure a good job.

The only thing you can do in this situation is to dispute the costs and say that it doesn't justify the damage that was done. And if the guy you crashed has already repaired the car then your pretty much fcuked.

So advice: if your going to settle outside of insurance.. keep on the persons back to get the quotes and scare them into getting it (legally). Try to sort things out before he goes and repairs the car. Take photo's. and finally. Don't crash people -_-

when i had my 'at fault' accident i was advised that if i didnt want to go through insurance then i could get them to get 3 quotes and they had to go with who i chose.

so i did and they did. simple worked for me. i got out of it cheaper and they were happy with the job. they dont have to go to a cheap place they can go to 3 rip off places. the 3 quotes are to show you that they arent trying to rip you off.

but i guess if you dont want advice on other peoples experiences then dont ask. simple.

    • I would paint match the whole thing to avoid unwanted attention  I had a similar bonnet, paint matched, on my old R33 GTST, but mine was a fibreglass jobbie made by Blitz in QLD, they work extremely well for radiator efficiency and under bonnet temps

    • small update time, after always wanting a "cool" looking bonnet for my car and always struggling to find one for the series 2 that i liked and wasn't an insane amount of money. Saw one i liked on RHDjapan from D-speed in Japan the price was very good for a carbon bonnet so good infact i was a little unsure how much i trusted it, decided to bite the bullet and with the help of jesse streeter in not long at all it was at my door. Once it was delivered i ran in from work and quickly unboxed it and to my surprise the quality was actually pretty good i quickly removed the old bonnet and placed on the new one to test it out and even the fitment wasnt too bad at all. Then decided to paint the little grille in the bonnet black to stop it sticking out so much.   I decided to not mess around with the hood latch and just install some aero catch hood pins, having never installed them before did some YouTube university classes and i was good to go. fair to say it is not a fun job at all from making brackets so the pins sit nicely and actually cutting through the bonnet but also being very scared of cutting the holes too big it took wayyyy longer than i would like to admit but finally got it there. Then it was time for a quick test drive to ensure the latches actually worked and thankfully the bonnet looked very stable. I still think paint matching the bonnet and leaving just the part that sticks up as carbon would help make it all look alot neater as im not sure how i feel about all that carbon on a very fridge white car but will leave it as is and see how i feel with time.
    • I think it's bound to happen, you finally get it all perfect, and bam, something will happen. I took a while to get a Commodore rear quarter repaired where a P Plater clipped it. Two days after getting it back, Sarah wiped it out on a concrete pillar in an underground car park... This is why I take forever to repair them, it stretches how long until it gets bent again... 😛
    • Nah, not really responsible for that little fiasco, but I'm still pissed at myself for writing off my 86, or when I reversed my VX into a pole just before selling it, but, meh, 5hit happens to stuff, all it takes is a slight distraction, and life is full of distractions, and "dooh" moments
