hey guys, i have an exedy hd cushioned button clutch which i got installed not too long ago. i also got the flywheel machined and a new thrust bearing.

the car's been alright for a while, and the clutch feels normal, but over the last couple weeks it's started to hiss at friction point (when the clutch touches the flywheel).

the clutch doesn't slip, or drive any different to when i got it installed. it drives the exact same.

what i did notice though is that it does shudder when i take off in 1st gear. i always thought it was because the clutch grabs really fast/well.

my mechanic says i've glazed my clutch or flywheel, but i don't ride on the clutch like an L plater would driving a manual car.

i was told that it would wear away after a while but it hasn't. the hiss is quite loud if you're standing outside the car.

what should i do in this situation? is my only option to get the flywheel re-machined?

your opinions...

All my clutches have hissed just as they start to engage. Even the old organic.

Its normal.

My exedy 4puk solid button shudders less then the old xtreme 9puk.

Button = shudder if you try to ride them.

If you do ride them say good bye to it within 20,000km's.

I got 70,000km's out of my last ceramic 9puk but i would pop it when ever i could; avoid riding it.

thanks for all the replies guys. :D

thing is though Cubes, it never used to hiss up until not long ago. this is what i'm curious about, as it doesn't feel like it should be happening.

my clutch whines like a dying whale when I ride it to move around carparks and stuff...

starting making this noise when I let my friend borrow my car.. anyone got ideas as well?

there's a big difference between a little hiss and a whine.. i know mine is hissing because of smooth metal contact, but yours could be something else. does it slip?
