Hey guys, I'm hoping someone might be able to help me diagnose a problem my 32 gtr is having. Yesterday i was driving on the highway when out of know where i start losing speed and dropping revs, i give the accelerator a squeeze with no result. So pull over and engine is not running but turbo timer has not kicked in and radio is still going. I wait a minute then start it up fine and I'm off, one minute later it happens again this time car wont start after several times, so i wait about three minute try again and finally go it going. When i get home i was thinking it might be the battery so ive pulled it out, it has an indicator on it and was reading fine. The leads had a bit of that green shit on them so i've cleaned that up. Later took it for a ride and all of a sudden my radio goes dead and the light on the car get brighter, then i notice the volt gauge is reading as high as it goes over 18V and my anit-lock light is on. Other then these symptoms the car runs fine, im stumped so i hope someone might know what it could be?

Sounds electrical to me,

1. the switch that cuts out charging on the alternator could be stuffed.

2. bad earthing somewhere (which i had a problem with)

3. loose connection (a bastard to find when intermitant)

4. coilpacks ignitor is dying try swapping it to see if that stops it

The best you can do is check your earthing points and all the connection plugs are tight and not corroded inside.

otherwise an autoelec might be the go, I may be wrong though and it could be something else entirely.

Hey guys, turned out to be two different problems. The regulator on the alternator was stuffed causing the alternator to over charge, this has been fixed. Now the problem with the engine cutting out seems to be something different all together(lucky me) cause its still happens every now and again. It can happen either accelerating or just cruising, it will happen out of no where, engine will just lose all power and start losing rpm, sometimes it will start going again before car completely stops but most of the time the car will switch off once it loses all rpm. some times it will start straight back up other times it can be a real bitch and take a long time till it wonts to turn over, but once it does it is fine. I have know idea what to do, Ive search the forum with no luck, please help.

ignition module (aka ignitor), black box on top of the head that your coilpacks plug into (on S1)

when the unit is on its way out it will stop working once it gets hot

    • The odometer does go up when driving.  Does this tell it is an issue with the speedometer itself?    Where can I look for replacement cluster? Or speedo? I can likely do the repair.. Will ER34 cluster work on HR34? Or do I need a HR34 20GT S2 specifically lol
    • Mine's a bit bigger at 70x150mm roughly. The spots are flat, just can feel the edges if I dig my nail into it. I did fix some other other ones by both using my finger to sand that small spot (I'm a bit wary of doing this and creating hot spots and a bigger mess) and I also did sand over it flat and others, but this also worried me a bit because if I create an overall low spot on the panel on paint that is good.  Correct me if I'm wrong but as long as it's flat even if I can feel the edges, I can put filler because it will all be level once I sand it? I can see myself going in a circle after sanding guidecoat with 320 grit if for example the panel is flat with my hand but because I sanded the guidecoat I could have created a low spot again somewhere. Unless where I'm going wrong is what I mentioned previously where I didn't go low enough on the grits. It's 1 step forward and 2 step backwards here haha. I'll probably need to experiment with it more. Last time I go back to bare metal lol.
    • Thanks for the details mate , for me I think being a daily driven and happy with a basic tune (630Nm and 310kw) . Seems to be working well I just put on a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4 should help put the power down. I'm going to start looking a brakes and LSD in the future so I might reach out to you on options to upgrade the brakes. Cheers - Dee
    • I have a HR34 GT... RB20DE My speedo doesn't work! The rest of the gauges seem to work, fuel and RPM. I did not notice if my odometer was going up when driving last.  Any ideas? Speed sensor? Hopefully atleast... Gauge cluster perhaps? Or is that unlikely because the other gauges are working?   Any insight is appreciated. This is a rather new to me car. Lol
