I am not sure about Ethanol. Some say that it is actually good for the car (small amounts) and some say that you don't need it and can be harmful to engine.

Does BP have ethanol in their petrol? I know Shell advertise that it doesn't contain any ethanol.

Way back before the dawn of time (I.E. Before SAU started and we were all in SDU) someone took the inititive to test all 3 fuels and in terms of the RON ratings they were all pretty close with no major winner between the 3 of them. BP was first, then Mobil 8000 then Optimax. All over the 98 RON mark.

What was more interesting was the chemical content within the fuels. I can't remember what contained what but Optimax had other additives and stuff. I think it was supposed to be a bad thing but don't quote me on that.

I've since tried to find the thread but it's gone to Thread Heaven... :P

However I feel that you should stick with what you think. All 3 aren't bad and it's not like your going to gain massive HP by running [insert fuel brand here]. People have had different experiences with all fuels some run better on this, others on that.

I use whatever I'm closest to when I need to fill up, but generally have gone for Optimax. Ive found through the 3 main ones that Ultimate seems to give me good fuel economy, where Mobil gives me good performance and Optimax is a combination. Like a good all-rounder... I have noticed that results on Optimax tend to vary from servo to servo sometimes, but if you find a good one stick with it.

Man BP Ultimate is pretty hard to find in my area!!

Drove into 2 BPs and one had premium unleaded and the other just had unleaded. Look like a fool driving in and driving off haha. I think I found one for sure now with BP Ultimate, but still haven't try it out yet.

i tryed bp and vortex and my car didnt like em at all

ive been told by many that these are the best and have highest octane etc

but for sum reason my line didnt take to it very well

ran much better with optimax

I manage a caltex servo on the Gold Coast and it has the worst premium grade fuel I have used :D I never use Caltex Vortex it doesnt have the RON of the other brands... You can tell by the difference in price between the unleaded. Vortex is generally 5 cents dearer than unleaded at Caltex, BP ultimate is generally 8-10 cents dearer !!! I only run ultimate where possible, If I cant I use Optimax.... These two give better mileage which offset the extra cost.. Never really liked Mobile after all the deal with the aviation fuel getting diluted in our petrol so I havnt tried them! The other good thing to do is run Nulon petrol treatment.. by far the best. Its a red container.

    • Glad to hear. If possible, get your tuner to check air's to make sure everything is still where it should be.
    • The problem with FB/Insta/Reddit etc comments relating to cars is simple. You get to ask a question once, and get one round of replies. For things that can actually be answered in a few lines of text, once, it's fine. After 6 hours, your original question is lost to the void. There are no follow ups, additional questions, anything. No project car is ever such a simple list of questions to ask. You need discussion.
    • Welcome.  Here's what I have noticed about forum vs FB..... FB; seems to be wallet racing, and the same few questions asked over and over. There *may* be some groups that are closer knit, but most have changed for the worse. SAU; unfortunately, no longer in its glory days. But....genuine people with similar interests. Not all about how much you spent and saying you dont have enough power. Sooooooo much knowledge available. Have personally seen people post up about literally topics I made myself, asking on FB like no one has done it before. Most has been done, and most of that is here.   If you ever feel like just general chatting theres the wasteland.  Other interests are also generally covered in other areas of the forum. Hope you enjoy hanging around. We would love to have you.   P.s. nice 32 馃榾
