My engine needs to come out of the GTR and I have a mate who is a mechanic who will do it for me, but has never pulled an RB engine out of a skyline before or any Japanese performance car. His main thing is 4WD's eg. Toyota patrols, hilux's etc. So asked me to try find out if there is anything special that needs to be known before he gets started. I am helping him of course but I will have limited duties due to knowing and doing very little mechanics in my time. Is it too big a task for the inexperienced?? etc your input would be much appreciated before getting stuck into it.

There not too bad to take out. Some things to be aware of

1. Starter motor can be a bitch - either get it from the top with an extension bar with a uni joint oir a short stubby spanner from underneath (thats if the bolt ain't too tight)

2. Remove both drive shafts from the front diff. The drivers side one just pops out, bit of a prick gettin a lever bar in there, the passenger one just unbolts (6 bolts i think)

3. Remove wiring harness complete

4. The gear box can stay in there. It balances pretty well because of the rear transfer case. No need to support it really

5. Theres one heater hose thats a bitch underneath the plenum, undo it once you have the engine half way out

That's all i can remember really, i did it in my backyard in about 3 hrs. Make sure you drain the engine, coolant and front diff fluids otherwise it can get a bit messy

The first thing you do is take the bonnet off completely. You can see alot better, gives you alot more room to move

Enjoy :)
