Hi everyone.

Just bought a 2000 GTR R34 vspec 2 from japan and i was wondering if the tv sat nav unit can be converted to australian specs?

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Nick.

ok putting it more bluntly - the nav unit alone is $1300 add cables and modding and time and you have little change from $1600..

I work on these things DAILY and that price tends to back people right off unless they are serious.

Hrm yeah thats someone I would use.

"Yeah I can fix it, but im not going to tell you a price, how much money you got though?"

Don't go Flaming people when you havent been on these forums for long. Have a look at when Chris joined the forums and the number of posts he's made. He's helped numerous people out on these forums and written DIY's on various things. Also as he mentioned he does this stuff for a living.

Have a little respect for others on here.

Wasn't flaming the guy mum, just saying from a customers point of view I dunno about anyone else but saying "what do you want to spend on fixing it" rather than just giving a price is more going to put me off getting it done.

I havn't been on the forums long either (been lurking for a while though) and can see that Chris has got answering questions down to a fine art.

Basically, if he was to write out information heavy posts in response to every single question that he does reply to (often posts are directed AT him) then his hands would have worn off from typing, long long ago.

Now, without further hijacking.

- Chris, would you recommend simply getting a standalone unit? I assume they would be much cheaper and do the exact same thing.

Mate, just have a read around the car audio forums - chris is one of the most respected guys here in terms of his helpfulness and knowledge of skyline audio installations. He's not trying to make a buck here.

up to you really. most people opt for the stick on glass things as a easy way out . they do tend to get lost and do strange things. the fixed items are a lot more robust so they give very little probelm. I have been using the GARMIN GVN52 in most of mine and have zero probelm with the unit.

for the 34GTR thats the best route. for a 34 with OE screen (howie this is directed at you.) its your choice. I can have a DVD playing on that screen in minutes with the audio routed back out of the main radio OR with a bit of fiddling nav done in a similar fashion.

still waiting to get my hands on a R35. have been asked to look at one in sydney but thats something I'm gong to wait on due to lack of time.

So are you saying that the screen out of the 34 gtt can be made to play dvds if you had a head unit that can play dvds.

Any help would be great.

    • I wouldn't be concerned at all, other than to suggest having them flow tested when you receive them to confirm they are reasonably similar, and then put the highest to lowest flowing ones in cylinder 6,1,5,2,4,3

Would you guys recommend that if I do buy these I send em to RC to have em checked before installing. • They see me rollin' they hatin'....... Took me most of the day to make the necessary mods to the mounts to make them fit the car.  Fortunately I was able to just use the mounts that came with the rotisserie. The rear ones are really secure, the front I feel i might reinforce a bit more as it doesn't seem like enough attachment to the vehicle. I'm sure it's fine but better to be safe than (extremely...) sorry.  I drilled and tapped thread into additional M12 holes to each car mount where it attaches to the rotisserie as an extra fail-safe. Without them the side to side movement is just restricted by the allen head pinch bolts, nothing actually goes though the beam. Does now! I still need to adjust the rotisserie to get the car centred in terms of centre of gravity. If it's too high or too low relative to the rotational centre line of the car, it will be like a turtle and roll onto its back or as it currently sits, I dont think I'd be able to rotate it as it sits as it needs to lift the whole car up as it rotates. Ain't happening... I'm going to be nervous as hell the first time I go to spin it on its side...
