ive given up on 98ron so i now look for BP Premium or Mobil Premium, that is still a bitch!!

NO! dont give up the dream!

man my car ran like a dog on the 2nd last batch of 98 i got. i cant bear to imagine what 95 would be like. might as well just piss in your injectors.

im considering using octane booster regularly. lost one of my engines from detonation, anything to prevent that happening again...

Yep, drove from Vaucluse to Hornsby via Homebush and not a single servo had 98.

Eventually found some on the way back at Thornleigh at the Caltex there..... unbelieveable!!

If you want 98 close to Vaucluse, go to the caltex on old south head road near the blair st intersection (across from where the golf course starts)

I have filled up with 98 from there in the last two weeks without an issue.

I just got effed in the A... rocked up to the servo on the main road and they had traffic cones blocking the driveway!

And a truck probably filling the bowsers... though the driver looked shonky... I think he knows we're onto them :)

Sorry to burst your bubble, the new shell and bp pumps actually give read outs to customers how many litres have been seen pulled through the pump, the 98 stuff is like 100,000 ontop of the rest..

Grannys love the power in their excels too..

To add to your quest for fuel Vortex is avaliable, its got more power in it too :)

cant say i have that problem, in my town we have 2 servos with bp ultimate and 2 servos with V10 not to mention anotehr 4 with normal and 98 vortex. thou them being a dollar fifty a litre bites you in teh ass a bit

Grannys love the power in their excels too..

thats precisely the problem. boat drivers (sailors?) with delusions of grandeur(powah).

quote macarthur chronicle mar25:

"...like many in the community i am struggling to make ends meet. Filling up my 2003 Holden Commodore...

...My car runs best on Shell fuel...

...I went to the Mt Annan station and every single premium unleaded bowser was 'out of fuel'. The only fuel available was the cheap ethanol blend which i will not put in my car."

Currans Hill

so there you have it.

the problem is actually struggling family men stealing our 98ockers to waste it in their bombodore bongo wagons. i hope they are enjoying the improved performance and the increased inflation due to their spurious spending.

what a jerk-off.

I just got effed in the A...

So polite about it :)

Hey, all the servos i've been to have about 100-200,000 more litres on the 91 clocks. The second most used is 98. 95 is the odd one out. Tight arses (or for Dr Doof, tight A's :D ) don't wanna spend extra on it, and performance drivers and bogan drivers alike won't allow the energy crises to defeat us!!!

Maybe all the burnouts i hear at night are those grannies in their stock excelboxes.

so there you have it.

They mustn't be struggling if they can raise a family of monkeys AND pay $1.60/L on Thursdays!

So erm, has anyone actually heard WHY there is no premium fuel? The last one I heard was that the refinery at Kurnell or wherever had to stop for a day which delayed the supply of fuel for two weeks or something... But i dont think that is related to this because that was a while ago.

Anyone heard anything else?

A catalytic cracker malfunctioned, and while it was temporarily shut down, they decided to do a scheduled shut down of the entire plant for up keep or whatever the f**k reason... it was going to be a few months later, but they decided to push it forwards...

They were also going to import V power Racing I believe to cover losses...

Watch them jack up the fuel price for premium fuel EVEN MORE now....

I'll find out why shell doesnt supply v power at the moment...

let me do some ivestigation......

I'll get back with the story.. :)

i was going to the 24hr mobil on the hume highway (m5) at pheasants nest, and yet even that not is OUT OF ORDER! found vortex 98 on blaxland rd campbelltown, although i feel awful putting that shit in my car.

no one could expect this to kill imports, or rather, performance cars. how easy is it to buy octane booster? just inconvenient and a bit pricey.

+1 for the whole situation being ludicrous.

what about adding tolune to the mix?

what about adding tolune to the mix?

well if worse comes to worse i will add toluene, as found in many octane boosters. but i shouldnt bloody well have to. is it my fault? why should have to pay for it? why cant i just be provided with 98octane fuel at so-called "service" stations? last time i checked we werent a 3rd world country.

    • Well, I was going to say, "Is the wastegate set up so that it is not leaking?" That's actually a different thing to what you're asking about. In theory, if you have allowed the two halves of the manifold to commmunicate (more than the stock manifold does - which is at least a little bit) then the negative effect should be apparent in delayed spool, not in outrigth power. OK, maybe just maybe, a badly set up twin scroll wastegate "crosstalk" might kill the top end, although it's hard to see how. What is happening with the original wastegate in the turbo? is it sealed off properly. If it's left flapping in the breeze, it will f**k everything up. If it is still there, and can be returned to service, I'd be capping off the external (presuming the two halves can and will be isolated from each other after doing so) and have a go with just the stock wastegate. I have an internal wastegate in my highflowed rear housing. The bigger opening and flapper should be fine to >250 rwkW. So there's not exactly a pressing reason to have the external. Done right, an external will give better results. Done wrong, it might just be possible to have worse results. Report back!
    • Hi Rob It's a nistune ecu. Yes same shop, good reputation. Apparently the computer on the dyno is compensated for temperature.    Chris was saying that the lean or richness of the mixture would be covered in the actual tune, but he's already picking up in advance that it's under what it should be. Regards the dyno, it's also noticeable on the road. But I just want to add something that has just come in, it appears there might be something in the setup of the external wastegate. In the exhaust manifold there is a centre divider between the front three and rear three cylinders. The external wastegate has a pipe from each side that join at the wastegate. Theory is those two pipes just might be pypassing that divider and introducing a problem somehow. Is anyone familiar with the divider in the exhaust manifold and the effects if the two wastegate pipes were to create a bypass path? Thanks for your questions Rob, interested in your thoughts on this external wastegate bypass theory. Regards Rob
    • Meh, At 60 years old, I have been doing dumb stuff for much longer than you mate, I am the true King And unfortunately I cannot be a maroon, as I am not brownish red As for not getting ITB's, the plenum intake will apparently show typical gains across the board and increase induction noise a bit, but, have all over less dort than ITB's Cost difference for the extra ITB dorts was significant though, the total parts for the plenum set up is "around" $2kAUD plus shipping, the ITB's were $4kAUD plus shipping, I was contemplating really hard about paying the extra $2k for all of the dorts, but weirdly, some form of common sense, from listening to the platform experts prevailed  As for the NA mod hate by some, I've had a few boosted cars, with all their inherent issues, I'm now looking at simplicity and legalities for a street car, maybe I'm just getting old, and I'm quite happy to spend some of the kids inheritance, 5kw at a time 🤣 And think of all the money I'll be saving on consumables that something with boost needs, like engines, gearboxes, diffs, clutches,  tilt trays... etc. etc. etc. 🤪
    • Haha.  I wouldn't say I am either but I've definitely been around it plenty.  I'm guessing you know the dial in is basically to make a handicap to level the playing field between racers.  The car with the slower dial in goes first and in theory if they run their dial in time and the faster car also does then they cross the finish time if they also have exactly the same reaction time - if you go faster than the dial in them you lose, but if you are too slow there's a good chance the other person will get to the finish line first. I'm normally supporting other cars but they were all pretty dialled and were egging me on to race as well, here's one of the cars I tune (Starlet) which ran within like 1 hundredth of its dial in through the competition: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=inEBu-d9Gn4&t=69s
    • Where ever the fuel reg gets it reference is what I use to T into for map reference been a very long time so where it goes to plenum/runners I have no idea but never had issues.
