R33 Gts-t Driving Like An N/a

Ok guys just a quick question for you.

My friend's R33 GTS-t S2 is having problems, just took it for a quick drive and the boost quits at about 3.5 - 4 on the factory boost gauge. Only just happened to the car today, before this it was running smoothly. Basically you can hear the turbo start to spool and then it just stops, the BOV doesn't come on and it sounds like only the motor is working. I assumed it was a boost leak and diagnosed it as loose piping. However he doesn't have a FMIC, is it still likely for the factory piping to pop loose? What else could be causing this? Have I missed something obvious? It doesn't feel like an airflow meter problem as I've dealt with that in the past.

The car had a compression check which returned good results and the motor sounds healthy.

seriously though, could be an air leak, or problem with the wastegate getting stuck open or something.
