Hi,

Got an R33 GTS 1997 series 2 which is totally stock.

Planned to do the following to me ride which is within budget.

1) FMIC. Found one which is a GTR 33 size .

2) Down pipe 3 inch from front to back

3) Manual boost controller with boost set to 0.8 bar

4) CAI from Apexi

Option:

Greddy Emanage piggyback to handle fuel and timing duties.

High speed fuel pump

Adjustable fuel regulator

Question:

1) Can I run 1 to 4 without adding the emanage or any piggyback at 0.8 bar?

2) What would the safe level of boost to run with very std mods such as the above?

3) What bhp on wheels should I be looking at.

Appreciate any help I can get on this.

Thanks!!!

I've got a R33 S2 running Pod Filter, Boost controller at 10/11psi, 600x300x76 FMIC, 3" Split Dump/Front, Full Trust 3/4" Exhaust and no Cat (shhhh).

I've got a SAFC2 Neo in, but it's not tuned yet, the car is running reasonably rich and it pops flames here and there but it's generally fine, just fuel economy has dropped a little. I doubt I'm making very good power with this setup though as without a tune it'll mostly be wasted.

So, make that Emanage a little higher on your list and you should be able to make good power and good economy. :D

what do you actually want to do with the car?

What aspect of it are you trying to improve?

Answer questions like this and do some searching. Then you will be on a better path to the right mods.

Got this reply on another forum. Looks interesting

injectors max out at around 340 bhp

afm max out............around.340 bhp

fuel pump max........around 350 bhp

standard turbo, max boost .8bar, max power 330bhp ish

standard ecu max power 330bhp ish

standard clutch.....340bhp max

head gasket max 1.2bar, any more boost above 1.2 bar increases compression, so change for a thicker 1.8mm to reduce compression so increase boost.

So seems that if we keep everthing below 0.8 bar or below 330 bhp, we should be fine.

The piggyback seems like and important piece of hardware I really need to consider but so is the intercooler and exhaust system, high speed fuel pump too. Decision, decision, decisions.

In terms of power, Not looking for more than 330 bhp on engine or more than 0.8 bar of boost.

Will set my mod list as follows:

1) Open pod filter

2) FMIC

3) 3 inch downpipe

4) E manage

5) Manual boost controller

From some info from members, the Walpro can come a bit later as boost is not too high and fuel pump will max out at 340 bhp.

Will start my mod project in a bit and update accordingly. Wish me luck.

injectors max out at around 340 bhp - correct

afm max out............around.340 bhp - try 300bhp

fuel pump max........around 350 bhp - try 250bhp

standard turbo, max boost .8bar, max power 330bhp ish - try 260bhp

standard ecu max power 330bhp ish - only as good as the tuner

standard clutch.....340bhp max - try 240bhp

Why?

What is the car intended for? What do you want to improve on in terms of how the car drives now?

You will get the benifit of experienced members providing more outcome based feedback.

By the way just two little issues with your plan.

Open pod filter = go backwards in power

FMIC on stock turbo = pointless

Your call.

Bud

I am planning to run at 0.8 bar and the std intercooler is still ok?

I am not planning to go more than 0.8 bar. I am looking for a bit more poke as the car feels really weighted but I do not want to change the turbo or run high boost.

Thanks

    • I would paint match the whole thing to avoid unwanted attention  I had a similar bonnet, paint matched, on my old R33 GTST, but mine was a fibreglass jobbie made by Blitz in QLD, they work extremely well for radiator efficiency and under bonnet temps

    • small update time, after always wanting a "cool" looking bonnet for my car and always struggling to find one for the series 2 that i liked and wasn't an insane amount of money. Saw one i liked on RHDjapan from D-speed in Japan the price was very good for a carbon bonnet so good infact i was a little unsure how much i trusted it, decided to bite the bullet and with the help of jesse streeter in not long at all it was at my door. Once it was delivered i ran in from work and quickly unboxed it and to my surprise the quality was actually pretty good i quickly removed the old bonnet and placed on the new one to test it out and even the fitment wasnt too bad at all. Then decided to paint the little grille in the bonnet black to stop it sticking out so much.   I decided to not mess around with the hood latch and just install some aero catch hood pins, having never installed them before did some YouTube university classes and i was good to go. fair to say it is not a fun job at all from making brackets so the pins sit nicely and actually cutting through the bonnet but also being very scared of cutting the holes too big it took wayyyy longer than i would like to admit but finally got it there. Then it was time for a quick test drive to ensure the latches actually worked and thankfully the bonnet looked very stable. I still think paint matching the bonnet and leaving just the part that sticks up as carbon would help make it all look alot neater as im not sure how i feel about all that carbon on a very fridge white car but will leave it as is and see how i feel with time.
    • I think it's bound to happen, you finally get it all perfect, and bam, something will happen. I took a while to get a Commodore rear quarter repaired where a P Plater clipped it. Two days after getting it back, Sarah wiped it out on a concrete pillar in an underground car park... This is why I take forever to repair them, it stretches how long until it gets bent again... 😛
    • Nah, not really responsible for that little fiasco, but I'm still pissed at myself for writing off my 86, or when I reversed my VX into a pole just before selling it, but, meh, 5hit happens to stuff, all it takes is a slight distraction, and life is full of distractions, and "dooh" moments
