I'm putting some new Feroda Formula pads in, this is the first time i've done a pad change and left the calliper on the car.

I've placed the metal shim behind the pad, and can squeeze the pad+shim into the caliper, but to do this i need to leave off a little metal clip which holds the shim to the pad. The pad squeezes in quite tight and i cant fit the metal clip in.

Will it make a difference if i leave this clip off? Pics below...

I want to finish the job in the morning, so any quick help/thoughts are appreciated!

I'm guessing that corner shim thing is also to help with squeal. I'm missing some of mine but it hasnt been a problem, as i have the goo and grease to keep the squeal in control.

If my brakes start squealing without the clips, i'll whack some goo on the back. But there is no way the clips are going to fit, these pads must be slightly too big.

New pads were squealing worse than anything i've ever heard, mostly when you are slowing down from say 30kph at red lights.

I've pulled the pads out and filed them down, it looks like these Feroda Formulas are larger than the other pads. So now i've got my shim clips back on, and have put some goo on the back, will see how that goes tomorrow.

Moral of the thread : the shim clips ARE needed

i think the workshop that changed my pads to some QFM ones had similar issues with space? they remove some metal part as well

how'd you go with the shims back in and some grease?

i'm squealing in EXACTLY the same fashion as yourself, it's amazing how loud brakes can be!
