Hi guys,

I'm thinking about putting a pod filter in the stock air box. what are u guys reckon? is this gonna be better than pod filter with custom air box? also, think about getting air induction from the front and feed into the stock air box for the pod.. good or bad?

In that case i must be really lucky because i have...

My apexi pod is hidden inside my stock arbox with a metal intake pipe coming from my 2535 and a Z32 afm...its all about backyard ingenuity...personally i did mine because i had a spare apexi pod in my garage and felt bored one day...and most cops are non the wiser...

So the bottom line is...YES...you can fit a pod into an airbox...but it will take some trimming of parts of the airbox to have it sit nicely...my airbox is butchered anyway with a larger section of the base and side removed...it just helps to get alittle more air in...when i'm at the track i just rip the whole cover off and expose the whole pod...

As for whether it improves or hampers performance...you make up your own mind...i have done a couple of back to back dyno runs with and without the cover a year ago and power was almost the same...however it should be noted that this situation is not the same in real world conditions when you're doing 120km/h and ramming air into the engine bay...

I don't have a pic of the box with the pod inside but here is the engine bay with the airbox...the aim is to have it looking legal...

What is your reasoning behind it?

why/how do you think it's going to be better than even a stock NISSAN paper panel filter element in the stock air box using stock ducting?

Z32 AFM also bolts straight up to it - half the time people don't even know what they are looking at so they won't realise its a Z32 AFM

Just use the stock air box with a paper filter man, you really can't go wrong

I have had to go back to an Apexi power intake filter as my standard air box doesn't fit with my new piping setup (intake and cooler) which really sucks to be honest

I'm just waiting for the day I get pulled over and raped! :(

One weekend when I am free I might attempt to make the air box fit, it is possible but just takes time to do it

Plenty of people making high power figures on standard air box - why wouldn't you use it?

Gday guys! :( I'm a new skyline owner and have to say these forums are awesome! I've been reading it for days on end and getting no sleep :D

Anyway, on to my newb question(s):

The skyline i bought (R33 GTST) came with a HKS mushroom filter, which i find to be bloody noisy and have ordered an Apexi power intake filter (or whatever they're called) to replace it. I was planning to put a box around this for legal issues, and was also considering setting up some kind of CAI piping into the box, but after reading it sounds like everyone touts the stock box/intake as superior for close-to-stock cars (mines got only the filter and a ?cat-back? exhaust AFAIK)

So i was wondering what would be the best option:

1. Find a stock box + intake, hack it to fit the Apexi (pod) filter.

2. Find a stock box + intake, forget the pod filter, use a k&n panel filter instead (totally stock setup)

3. Foget the stock box/intake and just build a partition/box for pod & a CAI

If the stock options are best, where to find them? Seems most cars have pod filters installed lol, so surely those original parts must be lying around somewhere?

Also, what's the Z32 AFM? I assume that AFM = Air Flow Meter, is Z32 the stock meter attached to the intake pipe after the filter?

Appreciate any advice :(

their AFM meter has a higher max voltage which means more tuning resolution.

just bought an R33, has a cat back and blitz pod.

I will be replacing that with the stock intake stuff soon.

I only get to play with the car a little bit on weekends so gotta get the service and stuff out of the way first.

Putting Apexi Pod in a stock box = just to keep the heat away from the pod and hide it.

I gota friend who did that and it worked quite well.

If your not running a large abount of boost just change it to a high flow panel filter.

why do you want to do it? instead of making the box, i wanna use the stock air box and make the pod fit in it

That noise isnt the nicest but it is all intake noise from stock compressor, Since hiflowing my stock turbo but still running pod filter its much quiter and makes a nice high pitch whistle on boost, not that rushing air sound that stock turbo makes.

    • I agree that delayed payment probably isn't the most suitable solution. It seems a solid complete transaction would be best. As I wouldn't be using this sale as a line of credit that would typically earn interest, we can probably arrange a much cleaner single transaction deal. I can do $92.52 today. Would you prefer EFT, or Cash on Pickup?  😛

Funny enough (well not really) I sold a car to some old dude (buying for his Daughter) on a Saturday, He asked if she could take the car now and pay me the money on Monday as the bank wasn't open. Needless to say I told them to come back with the cash or get f**ked! Luckily the money seemed to magically appear in his pocket a few minutes later, so it all ended well (for me).

    • I wouldn't even move it like gTSBoy is saying. I'd seriously do what Duncan is saying. Unplug the injectors, and unplug the fuel pump.  Pull the spark plugs out. Have a look in quickly with a bore scope if you want. At most, you can't spray a bit of oil into the bores so there is lubricant in there while you crank it. (Don't fill it, as it's only going to enter the exhaust, or spit at you out the spark plugs holes. Before cranking the engine on the starter, after a 5 year sit I'd probably prime the oil system manually. Easiest way to do so is to look at buying an oil filter relocation block, fit it to the engine. The pressure line going into the engine on this block you can then shove into some sort of oil pump, or put it into a bottle, with that hose going to the bottom. Fill bottle up with oil. Now seal the bottle and add a compressed air line to the top of the bottle. Feed compressed air in, about 20psi will be PLENTY. This will pump oil through the motor. Be aware, it also means it will drain back to the sump, so make sure you don't end up over filling the motor Now bolt the old oil setup back on (or fully install the remote filter system).   This way you've at least pushed fresh oil everywhere, then you're letting the motor crank to then do its own oiling. Then I'd tap the key to make sure it can start to crank, if the motor free bumps, then I'd just hit the key and let it crank. After letting it crank and seeing you can get real engine oil pressure, put new spark plugs in, reconnect the fuel system electrics, and send it.   Additionally, you can look to remove the fuel feed line to the rail, and divert it to a tank so you can get the bottom of the tank shit out, and just incase there's some crud sitting anywhere that gets passed the fuel filter (or is already ahead of it).   If fuel injection at the injectors ends up appearing to be a problem, you can dump the injectors into an ultrasonic cleaner for a quick flush clean out. Note this isn't as good as new injectors, or getting them pro cleaned and flowed
