Sorry, I just got a bit freaked out when for the first time I checked out the prices of these cars in other states...

In Melb our cheapest ones are around the 55k mark whereas in Sydney there are four cars advertised for sale below 50k with lower kms than anything Vic has?!?!?!

WTH's going on here? Is it because NSW is a bigger market? Can't be that much bigger... Melb is only slightly smaller than Sydney, and even cars from WA/QLD are cheaper.

Is it because Vic has the tightest modification regulations so fast Jap cars aren't as popular because they always get defected?

I am seriously thinking about going interstate to buy my car now. The difference in price can pay for 50 return trips from Melb to Sydney... jeez.

With the price of airline tickets you'll be crazy not to consider buying a car from interstate.

Do as much research as possible first, ask the owner as much questions as possible, and ask for as much pics as possible; before flying up.

I would have thought a bigger market would attrat higher selling prices :S

i would definately go interstate... any R33 GT-R's (import landed in Vic) or my r34 i got from Vic..

nah it wont cost double stamp duty as you jus de-register the car in NSW 9or whichever state you buy) and re-register the car in Vic... this would incur the extra cost of a new safety cert. in Vic of course but still is alot cheaper than buying for over 5k more :D then you just pay the stamp duty in Vic

And it's like Owgasm said.. it's not alot to put it on a train or truck and ship it to Vic... however if you got the spare time you could have an excellent road trip on the way back and on those empty roads you could... well you know break it in XD...

As for the extra hassle??? well there would only be a hassle if there was mods that are aloud interstate that you arent aloud in Vic.. then you couldnt get a safety cert. in Vic.. unless you got friends in the business of course... for example it seems like your aloud NOS in your car if you live in NSW??? but here in QLD ur not even aloud to have the lines for NOS anymore (people running fake lines to look as though NOS not set up caused this law to come in so i've heard)

Hope that helps.. and correct me if i'm wrong as i'd like to know

Thanks for the advice Gimps-R34.

But, I think a smaller market means higher prices. The more sellers you have, the more competition there is, so the cheaper it is for the customer. The less sellers you have, the less choice and power customers have. This is why in really remote outback towns everything costs about three times more - lack of sellers, lack of customers.

It would be pretty hard to see the cars and organise financial/mechanical inspections, organise transfer of ownership, then get it shipped personally back to Melbourne all on the same weekend. But I will look into it more.

Cheers. Michael.

    • Hey lads, reviving an old thread.  As an update, since the last time replied to this thread, ive done mostly suspension. Havent touched the motor except for maintenance. Though upon changing spark plugs, found out i had splitfires pre-installed! Updates: - Got me some stock airbox top cover and snorkel to fit onto the original intake. Should be free of defects - Bought a set of R34 GT-T brakes (not installed yet, going to rebuild + respray in champion blue + white 'Nissan' text) - Bought the last set of bilsteins from @Sydneykid and had them installed. Has been making some sounds on the rear but hopefully should be sorted out after this New Year break. - Regreased front caster rod bushings (poly bushes..) - Rear upper camber arms - Whiteline sway bars (BNF27Z 22mm + BNR11XXZ 24mm).  The rear sway bars are a bit short (ive read 50mm else where) but was still able to get them in.  Anyhows, I reckon suspension is sorted now. Maybe replace bushes (do have a set of front upper control arms from SK not installed yet) but should be okay for now. From now, I'm wanting to start working on the motor, drivetrain etc etc. Still debating on the order to go on and what to buy etc but: - ECU ( Haltech or Link ( Link states that it dont support A/T or AWD functions... Can anyone attest to this? ) - Highflow turbo ( ATR43ss2 ) - Intercooler ( Not decided yet, but cant find many good afoordable ones. Toshi says to opt for crossflow Japanese. Bit difficult this one, unless I get a returnflow Blitz from JJ? ) - Injectors ( Any recommendations ? I do have a nismo FPR ( Thanks SK ) ) - Seats - Tune by either Toshi or DVS To be fair, I did consider just keeping the stock turbo and nistuning it. Sat in a mates stock N, that had something like 200kw, and I reckon that felt more than enough. Maybe I should just go this route ahhaha. Too many choices.... Planning a trip down south, so wanting to just clean things up and make sure it gets to and from in one piece. Anything else specifically I should do before ? Cheers lads
    • Must be for the car’s lucky charm 🤷🏽‍♂️ She runs fine, but it just seems to take about 1L less. Maybe I’ll have the oil sump dropped at some point to check if there is anything
