Some Gtr R34 Advice?

Recommended Posts

hey guys, im new to the skyline scene, been wanting a gtr r34 since the first time i played gran turismo waaayyyy back in the day many many many years ago and now i've come to the point where i can consider getting one. So i was just after some quick advice on a few things.

first of all, i've owned a my99 wrx for 4 years and loved it, but its time to get something different, was considering a newer sti, but for the same price i much rather the GTR =)

so, i'll be 23 by the time i buy a GTR in a few months (please no flaming me over my age) and wondering if anywhere here is around my age with a GTR. just curious into the type of insurance they are paying (i plan to go with famous most likely, and will get a online quote soon) as insurance will be a big factor into getting the car, i really wouldnt want to spend more than 4 grand a year on it. living in a pretty nice neighbourhood.

but moving on. i've seen a few stock standard GTR's going for around 45k here in aussie.. is that to cheap for a GTR R34, as i've been told it sounds to cheap by a few people. buying one here in aussie would save the hassle of importing, but if im going to get a much better deal importing thats what im going to do.

which brings me to japan auctions, i've seen a few skylines online including a gtr r34 vspec for 43k with some standard mods (suspension, exhaust, fmic, etc) does that sound to cheap for a vspec? (of course this wouldnt be including the stamp duties and stuff associated with importing)

and last of all.. to vspec or not to vspec.. i seen that vspecs go for a little more, is it worth spending the extra money for a vspec or is the standard GTR pretty good as it is. my budget is roughly 50k (this is why importing looks so attractive as i can get a gtr with all the basic mods done for me)

i would love a vspec II, but my pockets are not that deep haha.

if anyone could offer any usefull assistance that would be great.

thanks in advance

jaydee

Mate Im 21 and i own 2 R34 GTR'S , My first Car was a 03 WRX , You simply cant compare the Both, THE R34 GTR By Far In My Eyes S**** All over it .

Advice to you. Try and buy one local , I Bought one from overseas and one from here, Too much headaches importing one your better off buying it local spending a bit extra and have a clear conceince . All those Ones you see for 45k Are Rubbish , Ive seen them for myself ,Anything you see Between The 50-70 K Mark will be a good quality car.

Good Luck...

Mr jaydee

Just click on my profile and view all the topics I posted in. I am in exactly the same situation and have asked all the same questions last week.

You can save yourself and a lot of other people time by looking at these posts.

Cheers.

    • I don't how much the car makes a difference or whether it is just a question of gearbox and clutch. On mine it's fine. Pull type Nismo coppermix twin (standard, not competition) on the 5 speed in my Stagea. OEM slave cylinder. Bite point is a few cm off the very bottom of the pedal. Clutch pedal all the way down to put in gear, and when heading off at the lights, there's a tiny bit of nothing and then it starts biting. And fully engaged before the pedal is all the way released. There's a bit of play at the top where the pedal does nothing anymore. Are you in Australia @ck_chino? If you are set on using a Nismo slave cylinder I have one new-in-box at home. Ordered it together with the clutch but didn't get it fitted. We can work something out if you want it
    • I am using a pull nismo coppermix twin in an r34 getrag box, had both the standard slave and  then the nismo one. Adjusted pedal to get bite point how I wanted , it is on the higher side, but would fully disengage past half way down.  I also read that the nismo slave won't work but I had no issues with the stroke, might become one later as clutch wears but 2+ years of happy motoring so far.  Take the above as one input only, specially as my setup is a bit unique in that I am using an S15 clutch master , cefiro clutch pedal, custom braided clutch line. Lots of variables at play.
    • Oh for sure, I'm just recounting my thoughts 😎 I'm not what you've got there to fuzt with.... likely my first idea was on the money -- rebuild or replace connectors. You can get a lot of connector stuff here  -> https://www.rapidcables.com.au/ Didn't look in the boot of mine, because I replaced these when I renewed the pump (plastic of connectors had gone brittle) edit: what I used... https://www.efihardware.com/products/2120/Deutsch-DTM-Connector-Kit-6-Pin ...cheaper... https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/364900039138
    • In no way was i suggesting it’s your fault mate. The trailer cable has a plug that I removed. I will have a closer look, but I did remove the trailer wiring cable with the tow ball as I don’t need it on my silo. i have replaced the fuel pump already there’s no need to remove the cradle again I can see the wire colours from it in.
