hi there i just joined this forum tonight and was wondering about a few things.

heres the story... i brought my 1994 nissan skyline r33 gts-4 from a bloke in adelaide 3 weeks ago. its a non turbo skyline with disks all round 4wd, and 4wheel steer. i got a non turbo cause my insurance company/bank said no to a turbo car. and id rather a skyline than no skyline. now i need turbo. and intercooler ect.

i was wondering if anyone in s.a knows of how much a turbo kit would be and if you can put one on a non turbo skyline. and any places in s.a that would put it in. i must say 2nd day of owning the car and the popos wanted to have a looksie around it and 4 day again. :P .

anyways any info would be great, i would love to do the car up with some power. im only 18 and have owned a few cars. my other car is a 1985 toyota hilux xtracab sr5 with 2.5inch liftkit, 33 inch mongrel mudtyres, custom tray and 2.5 inc truck pipes out the back.

cheers... michael. owww and im sure someones gunna say non turbo ditch it, no way she goes alright.

if you have insurance for a non-turbo, then bolt a turbo on and stack it, without changing your insurance, which it doesnt seem like they will allow, wont that make your insurance null and void?

i must say 2nd day of owning the car and the popos wanted to have a looksie around it and 4 day again.

adding a turbo is only going to make them look at you more.

also, its something you need to read into and do research on, na compression etc.

i recommend you replace the motor with a RB25DET but keep you NA cams and stuff......apparently NA cams are a lot better and work a lot better on turbo motors....(not sure whether its a myth or true search around for it).......i highly recommend you go into adelaide jap dismantlers and have a chat with paul....i got my motor from there and it runs like a dream...http://www.adelaidejap.com.au/........their website is pretty pathetic but if you go into the shop then they can help you out a lot more.....plus they can do most of the work for ya in their workshop.....or you could take it to boostworx

If he bought a gtst he wont have the awd, brakes dont need upgrading straight away i drove mine for 2.5 yrs on na brakes

but yes your insurance is the killer i suggest changing there should be others who will insure you

stick with the n/a buddy.

your insurance will be void if you put a turbo on!

you will also need to upgrade brakes clutch change the ecu theres a lot involved, as said easier to find a rb25 package, it would most prob work out cheaper if you sold yours and bought a gts-t

high capacity actively controller suspension.

i believe most 4WS systems are not as advanced in the handelling side of things as HICAS is?

not sure but basically its a driving aid that performs better than your normal 4WS

If its anything like the CA series, I had CA20 NA cams in my CA18DET and they certainly performed better. However, you need adjustable cam gears to make them work.

Short answer, no its not a myth.

The same with Suzuki GSXR engines. I had a GSXR 1000 exhaust cam and 750 inlet cam fitted to my 600 with Yoshimura adjustable cam gears and it made extra power, without the expense of brand name hi-po cams. >_<

With my experience of HICAS I wouldn't be stamping out it's effectiveness yet. Although it can make a driver panic I think if you go with the flow of it, it can do wonders to corner exit speed.

That's my experience though.

thanks guys for all the information, i am with just cars insurance, and they do allow for unlimited modifacations. how would a naturally aspirated skyline go. i can get bigger cams and change a few things would it be worth it.... i am still thinking a turbo should be the go.

cheers... michael

Just Car insurance do insure turbo cars, i know because the better half of the whole of SAU is with them. A naturally aspirated skyline will only go hard if you have deep pockets.

Sell up and buy a gts-t.

Just for shits and giggles, and for insurance estimation, how old are ya?

Damo he says in his very first post he's 18

i think keep it and bolt a turbo on see what needs to be done to feed oil to it and how much safe boost you can run with the compression of a NA car, you and always look into a steel gasket something to lower compresion

my car came with a turbo already and i suspect it's a Stagea RS4 engine

dont stress about your running gear its a mixture if GTR and GTSt anyway's
