LOL, yeah fair enough. ;) Thats pretty lame to go on about this and then not tell you what I..sorry..., we got.

Its a 2005 Subaru Forester Sti version. 13,000 kays on the clock and its stock as a rock.

Bloody nice car: 0-100 in just over 5 seconds, around 330 hp, WRC blue...im totally satisfied with the car.

Just in case anyone thought the car was slow...

260ps actually.

My old st/b forester would be quicker.

That said, litchfield (who do the version in the youtube vid) remap them (they are detuned from the factory - relative to the impreza) for 300hp.

They add exhaust system to get the 330hp.

If you want to do the same here - get a prova or ksrom ecu (the latter is only ~50,000yen), and, of course, there are plenty of exhaust options.

I like the sti genome cat-back - but it's not cheap (~80,000). I'll probably add a kakimoto regu (I'm assuming the standard sti exhaust isn't going to be loud enough).

I actually just bought my first mod for mine:

nice one butt munch. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

butt munch? lol, whats that supposed to mean Richard? :P

Brian, youve been a great help as has everyone else who has offered advice and support. Much appreciated fellow SAU members... ;)

ummm....does this mean im going to have to leave here and join a wrx forum or something, lol! :)

It seems upgrades aren't too far away already and i dont mind spending a bit of coin to get more out of the package. Ive been dying to get stuck into a car for years now and finally, finally, its happening. First things first though.

That recaro baby seat is pimp! Although..thats a while off yet i have to say. :D

Yep. Happy camper am i.

I think what really settled matters for me were a number of different things...

Firstly, the car is a wagon so it has plenty of room. The missus and I, plus another couple, can head off camping in it no problem, chuck the gear in the back. Secondly, its 4wd so it can go anywhere, anytime and it'll be perfect for ski trips up to Nagano next season. Then there's the fact that its extremely rare in Oz and at last count there were only 6 known cars in the country. Brian's and mine will be 7 and 8.

Also, theres the performance and its no slouch. It looks good too, at least i think so and the condition its in is great.

It was also a bargain. Thats important.

It has basically ticked every box i can think of and thats probably the most amazing part.

see if you can find a copy of hyperrev 75 (forester) - it doesn't cover our car, but does have plenty of interesting info and leads on aftermarket suppliers.

as you've probably realised, a lot of the WRX parts can be used.

check out club f-star (japanese fanboy site) - check out the member cars. There's a few sg9 owners on there - with mods listed, so that's another good place for hints.

Anyway, be very careful with the modifying! My FD is a good example - I 'invested' bulk $$$ in that because I couldn't help/stop myself. I didn't intend to sell it though, but I also didn't intend to stay in Japan for as long as I have (going into year #7) - so it's gone, I'm still here, money 'invested' is someone else's gift, and I'm starting all over again.

I'm limiting modifying to a cat-back for the burble, and a few STi upgrades off yahoo, when I find them.

If the car is anywhere near as nimble as my old st/b (255ps stock + exhaust @ 1380kg) I'll be happy - that thing rocked.

Advan RS, gangster wheel fitment, scraping the frame shakotan style, you know it is the the right thing to do Adam... make it happen.

p.s. You should have got the Mitsubishi, but I am glad you got a Japanese car.

p.p.s. Don't read Subaru forums, they will make you like men. Like SAU is nazi about suspension mods, but Subie ones... WOW

Very nice Adam :) Sporty and functional.Full exhaust,ECU a bit of boost and a set of coilovers will sort that thing out. But i would leave it at that if it were mine :D

Cheers Dave! Yeah, it was an easy decision in the end. Its got great brakes too, 4 pot brembos on the front 2 pots on the rear. Well sorted package.

I think your mods are fine, but the coilovers?..hmmm. Im thinking ill stop at a boost increase, help it to breathe better and upgrade the ECU...that should be plenty. It has enough poke to get me in trouble as it is!

they are transformed (from SUV to more of a true wagon) via lowering:

That's much better. Hmm...the wifes not going to be happy about this one little bit, heheh.

Brian, got any recommendations?

coilovers - I'd suggest tein wagon spec or something similar.

The previous owner of my st/b just used springs - and the inner side tyre wear was horrific.

Tanks for the heads up Brian. I checked out wrexs sites and also looked into your suggestions and again, good info.

I know its not a subie forum but im damn proud of my purchase and im sure anyone who knows me will agree.

    • Due to series of unfortunate events the 32 is currently my daily. Fuel economy and jungle gym aside it has not been too bad to drive around. That was until the ol' Varex decided that ~15 years and ~8 of those years on E85 was enough. The butterfly valve separated from the motors' shaft and managed to wedge/weld its self in the closed position. the varex when rapped sounded like there wasn't any packing left in it either. New Vibrant 3" muffler was selected to go in. While it is a shame to lose the quiet mode, the new Vibrant muffler definitely gives a more mellow/rounded tone which sounds great. To me it also sounds louder than the varex was open... so there is that. sorry neighbours
    • Down shifting = Right gear, right RPM, right road speed! Try rev matching on the down shift
    • Why would you ever need to "hard change down" from 5th to 4th? Any time you're in 5th and need serious accel, you're looking to go down to 3rd or maybe even 2nd, anyway. Just treat your 30 year old gearbox with some respect.
    • Anyone else have a grinding issue changing from 5th to 4th gear. I have no issues 3rd to 4th and 4th to 5th. But the car seems to grind a little when I do 5th to 4th …    is this a common issue? Had it from the last owner. Bit annoying as I can’t hard shift down. Feels like I have to push a little to the left to get it smoother into gear.    thanks
    • I would, especially if the car has had a few start ups or short trips to move it around  But then I'm anal as fark about oil changes, as oil is cheap, and servicing is fun.....
