So, I'm sitting on site, should have been home by now. A job that should have taken 4 hours has had me busting my balls all day. I have a new IBM Server that randomly decides it just wants to switch off downing the whole network...

We have a bit of a thing at work, you DON'T say "This should be an easy job". I don't know what it is, but EVERY time one of our technicians says those words before he leaves the job turns to shit. If we say "This will be a ball ache" or something like that the job is an easy one. Now I know it sounds silly but it happens EVERY time we say "This will be an easy/short job".

Of course before I left today, what did I stupidly utter as I left? Yep, you got it "This won't take long, see you soon". What I wanna know is does anyone else have this sort of random shit happen? Do you have any stange tradition or superstition at your work?

it sounds like me it happens all the time, the manager gives me a job it looks easy i say it should be done in 20mins and it takes me the rest of the day because everything goes wrong and i get heaps of customers and calls. when i go take my break and give the phone to the manager it never rings for him so he thinks im lieing.

Twice today Mike and I were talking about specific customers, and they rang during the conversation.

Different people each time. Neither of whom we have spoken to for some time.

Spoooky

Mind you, after the second time we started talking about Jessica Alba... and she didn't call.

Bitch.

^^ Very similar

Cycling home and had a call on the mobile but was listening to music on it so didnt bother to answer. I get home and the girl from the apartment downstairs had called and she walks out of the garage door saying, I called about 20 mins ago. Then I get a message from the g/f reminding me that she has my keys at the time I am waiting there. Weird!

BTW - HP doesnt get my vote by a long shot, ever!

i forgot the worst thing that has been happening. i have a jinx in my car and its an air freshener. when i put it in my car the next day after work i walk out and my bonnet has a massive dent and well... its wrecked. i moved on and then one day my car started idling bad and it ended up being the coilpacks my car was off the road for 2 weeks due to other little things. i put the air freshener into my glove box and just the other day i pulled it out again and when i was going to work a big rock came off a truck and hit my window resulting in a cracked windscreen that will need to be repaired.

so ive learnt my lesson, that air freshener is never going to be in my car again.

You're all half-assed nerds who aren't worth the price of admission to a Star Trek convention.

The only correct answer is...

nerds++

++nerds is more efficient when the postfix increment is not required

True, but how often is the performance difference noticed ? :(

In regard to the topic, I double all my quotes, the first project I quoted on, about 50 hours, went for about 70 hours :)

Since then all my estimates are pessimistic....and even that doesn't work sometimes :(

If we're doing work T&M then at least the customer gets a refund at the end of the day, we've even started including a % of off extra (20% on average) on the quotes that the customer can see.

    • Update time!  The JZX110 had some maintenance needing to be done, so a lot of the seals with replaced to fix some oil leaks. Also used this opportunity to whack on a front mount that I'd bought some time ago.  I also finally got the rear lip painted and fitted.  I then got the exhaust done. It's just a catback for now. Custom made 3" stainless with a turn down. I could have a tip coming out, but it will require cutting the rear lip and possibly the bumper itself. So far I do like and it's made the car a little more zippy.  Close out with some nice pictures of the cars and a sneak peek of what's next.

    • Edit: It's now known as "R Performance" and is still in operation.
    • This lady loved her FD for 25 years!  https://www.topspeed.com/80-year-old-woman-donates-fd-rx-7-mazda/ My brother in law. He's nice enough to let me drive it whenever. He'll likely not see this, but I'll try: @r-is-for-fun got any pics?
    • Just something I found searching for more info on Emotion R, apparently the ECR33 Skyline GTS25t was either originally black, or there were two of them, the black one being the original demo car, then building a white one which was part of the 1997-onwards (to at least 2008!) Cockpit Tatebayashi Tokyo Auto Salon booth demo cars. It appears that Emotion R closed down in 2008 and was declared bankrupt in 2010: http://bank-db.com/hasan/208365. Scan of a magazine with the black R33 from 1996: Wayback machine archived page from May, 2000: https://web.archive.org/web/20000529061027/http://www.emotion-r.co.jp/skyline.html Option magazine with a few photos from the Cockpit Tatebayashi booth at the Auto Salon from various years: 2002: http://www.jdm-option.com/photo/index.php?action=item&category_id=154&image_id=3507 2003: http://www.jdm-option.com/photo/index.php?action=item&category_id=137&image_id=3033 2005: http://www.jdm-option.com/photo/index.php?action=item&category_id=116&image_id=1831 In 2008 Cusco website mentions that the Cockpit Tatebayashi ECR33 was displayed at that year's Tokyo Auto Salon: https://www.cusco.co.jp/event/2008/12/post_735.html As of 2021 it appears that the ECR33 demo car ended up being exported to Florida, USA: https://rmcmiami.com/inventory/1996-nissan-skyline-r33-cockpit-tatebayashi-demo-car-big-te06-turbo-endless-brakes-lsd-450hp/ And finally here's Google streetview of the Emorion R garage in 2023 which is amazingly not only still there, but the showroom is still full of various parts in stock and funishings, etc.: https://maps.app.goo.gl/ttyEAZdZLyzermyT9 Apologies for nerding out a bit. I used to love doing this 20 years ago on SAU and got a bit nostalgic for a moment... 😅
