yeah some gtr owners over fill their oil slightly when going to the track or very spirited runs... but this place where i had it done was no workshop... more cosmetic... so i think they just stuffed up...

done the work.... drained out an excess 900 ml's.... thats f**ked...... way too much overfill :( (sitting perfectly on high now) :)

hope it hasnt caused any permenant damage

the car seems to be happier on idle and boost.... so horah!

cheers guys

after chatting to my mechanic. the issue with over filling it is the possibility of the crank hitting the oil in the sump.

you know the kink in the dipstick. pretty much the length of the kink above the kink. can't remember how many litres that is exactly.

then again go buy a high octane sump and be done with the problems

*disclaimer: i have been drinking. might not make complete sence

^^^^ its a sat night mate if u werent drinking id be worried.

yeah it was middle to top of kink :) pretty f**ked but the car only did two spirited drives in that time so hopefully its all gud... all done now

peace

i wouldn't be worried about middle of top kink, if it was a mistake it was a good mistake. check what i just wrote in this thread : http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/R3...nt-t213242.html

basically do the oil mods. it's what cost me an engine.

p.s. chivas regal was on sale for 30.00 a bottle. plus some of the black dougles a mate kept givine me

Your mechanic is correct that overfilling is only a prob if the counter weights of the crank actually slap the oil. But I doubt that you could actually feel that happening, maybe just a very slight vibration.

If you are concerned at all, empty a little out. Better than ruining your crank or causing damage to the main bearings and such.

If the oil cooller is higher than the sump it may drain in the sump so make sure you check it soon after you stop the engine.

The problem with overfilling is the crank may aerate the oil if to much oil is in the sump then you get air mixed with oil pumping through the lub system and that could damage your bearings. Rb 26's have to have a lot more oil in there for that to happen, I always had a little extra in all my GTRS ...
