Hey guys,

I am aware similar topics have been covered a number of times but I would still appreciate some help directly about my car, because I am stuggling to get help from the companys and finding good prices.

Short story is: I had a turbo put on the car: was apparently a demo hypergear one, wasent ment to be sold, the mechanics have been pretty good about it, they will (for free): take off this one, put on the new one of my choice, and refund the $600 I paid for it.

you guys were very helpful before when I was trying to decided what to do, now I need some more help again:

The way I see it I have 3 options probably in this order:

1. A new Japanese turbo with a warranty

2. A second hand Japanese turbo for cheaper possibly with a small(or no) warranty

3. A new Chinese turbo with a 1 year warranty

Just so you know... I have roughly a $1600 budget for the turbo, actuator, adapter plates ...etc.. because the labour is free

... and want a turbo with a quick response and can handle around 300rwkw eventually with the right mods...

Car has:

Powerfc,

cushion button clutch,

big FMIC,

xforce dump and

full exhaust sys with gutted cat,

splitfire coils,

Car needs:(in the near future)

bigger injectors

fuel pump and regulator

tune and afm

Please tell me what you would do and where to look for cheap parts (hopefully in vic)... are any of your mechanics garrett distributors for example?

Any turbos you could recommend? I find most of the topics don't include the prices with the turbos on the site.

Thank you very much in advance,

Adam

Sorry what do you mean "hks offerings such as gtrs"

The other thing is, based on the prices I have seen, there are no hks turbos for around my price range to perform to 300rwkw.

please correct me if I am wrong.

300rwkw if this is your target then you are going to need something like a GT3076 (GT30R)pushing it pretty hard or GT35 should be a snip BUT you are going to need a lot more than $1600 budget to make use of 300rwkw including clutch, suspension, injectors, fuel pump possibly could lunch the motor if average tuning or bad fuel strike (i guess you have standard internals).

response will suffer with the larger turbos.

if you set your sights a little lower say 250rwkw (240-260) then GCG hi-flow or HKS GT-RS will get you there or thereabouts. fuel pump upgrade and injectors and bob's your uncle.

GT-RS $2500 (-old turbo $300?)

GCG Hi-Flow $1800

Injectors $700

Fuel Pump $250

otherwise you are into buying bushbearing turbos maybe $1000-1200 if you are absolutely on a budget. you would need to call a local reputable turbo shop to get prices and specs. (or do a thorough search here at SAU).

thanks for the help so far,

wolverine: if you check what I already have in the car and what I need, it says I have a exedy cushion button clutch... which should last for a little while shouldn't it? and I already knew about the fueling part and tune... I didn't want 300 straight off the bat....

I want the car to run at about 250rwkw... but just have the turbo's max ability to reach around 280-300rwkw for future purposes.

Also wolverine... I am asking you guys.. where are some "LOCAL REPUTABLE TURBO SHOPS"?!?! That's the info im looking for.....

jeffworld2: I have been looking at 3076's and 3071's but havent had a great idea on pricing? and compared to what other turbos? with adapter plates or actuators..etc... ready to go basiclly..

Thanks,

Adam

fellas and (dangerman4) you need to read what I am saying again:

"... and want a turbo with a quick response and can handle around 300rwkw eventually with the right mods..."

not the car at 300kw... just so the turbo does not crap itself when I eventually put in the supporting mods...

And I know a tune can help determine that.. but I am sure a garrett part would last longer then an ebay part.....for example.

Thanks,

Adam

GCG is a reputable shop (not Victorian though) and could supply either turbo mentioned (GT30, GT35)with a target of 300rwkw.

the clutch of course will be fine.

GT3076 (with the new information of 250rwkw) would be the more responsive so there is your answer.

you did write

I have roughly a $1600 budget for the turbo and accessories...etc..

good luck with your car.

I highly recommend the KKR560 for that, 300RWKW is pretty much what they are good for.

They are VERY easy to install, bolts strait up to the stock manifold, just need a dump pipe made up. mine cost me $100 its just V clamp or you can buy one to suit.

Otomoto sell the dump pipes for $150, turbo is $999.

They also bolt up to stock oil lines.

They are not as laggy as most people say, mine kicks in at 2800rpm but I have an RB31DET, expect about 4000rpm spool. Probably be able to reduce that with some tuning.

This is an RB25DET, dyno from otomoto's site.

KKR560-RB25DET_lg.gif

As you can see 22psi at 4500rpm.

Thanks for the advice finnny.

Luckily though, I believe I have made my mind up, Stao (Hypergear) has been very helpful and has been looking after me through out this ordeal, if it wasent for him, my car would have probably had a mouthful of metal by now!

I decided to use one of his turbo's ( a NEW tr43 ) with some additions...

it should be close to the power I desire and with some tuning will be pretty responsive.

Thanks again everyone for the help! this is why I love the site so much!

Regards,

Adam

P.S I will put up the results after a tune!

You have unrealistic expectations.

Budget more, or lower your expectations. If you ask around long enough eventually you'll realise what's realistic for the budget. A few of the guys have already stated this.

300kw means you'll need a very expensive setup to make it responsive. And yes, a big turbo is needed for that power. And big = lag.

With a good setup you could make the power cheaply with the KKR turbo, but it won't be as responsive as a more expensive ball-bearing turbo, or a smaller turbo.

If you want a turbo to make 250kw with plans to go to 300kw, you'll need a big turbo. Because you won't be pushing it to full capacity at the lower power level (less boost) and you need supporting mods before you can push it, you'll be experiencing plenty of lag until it's potential is used

I'm sure you can get what you're after. Keep researching and GL.

Thanks for the advice,

I am sure you are right, and someone like me who does not know all the ins and outs of these parts truely stuggles to make accurate estimates and calculations, which is why i try to research but there are mainly just specs, or limited resources,

not what this housing will do as oppose to another, what a slightly larger inlet will make the turbo do ....etc,etc..... and how it will affect my car specifically....

so as you rightly said, I must ask around until I can roughly work out an accurate budget. which I have done and I am now satisfied with my choices, based on the power they should make, and the power I wanted safely.

I appreciate all the help I can get!

Kind regards,

Adam
