personally i would just freshen the engine, ie new rings, bearings and stock pistons if need be (you might find that your current pistons are okay)

Then spend a bit on maintence, like water pump, timing belt etc etc.

That wont leave you with much more spending money, if you lucky you may have enough for a decent clutch, which i would definately replace.

After the rebuild your not going to have a big jump in power (maybe a slight gain cause you're going to have a healthy engine), but you will have a good base to start modding. You'll have a fresh neo engine which will hold 450rwhp if you wanted to push it that far, and a clutch that will take some abuse.

Its much easier bumping up the boost, or stick an ecu in, or changing to another turbo once all the maintence stuff is done first. Theres no point spending money on forged pistons etc, if you dont have the basic stuff like a decent clutch to hold the power.

Once its been rebuilt, save for a couple of months and put an exhaust, tune and more boost into it.

yeah but his saying if stock pistons are around 800 mark and forgies are around 1200 then might as well go for forgies as its stronger and when u pump the boost the pistons can take less wear . i mean if the standard pistons only cost 400 like adriano said then no question go for the standard but how much is it really for standard pistons?

his still running the stock turbo, stock exhaust and stock ecu, and hes set on the 5k budget, he wont be making over 450rwhp soon.

I think most people are hearing numbers like 400rwhp too much these days and its lost its impact and want more than that. There is no need for a skyline that is RWD driven daily to have over 450rwhp. It sounds gay i know, and i want to hit myself for saying that there is such a thing as too much power, but i dont think many people know what its like to drive a car with that sort of power. It extremely quick and dangerous in the wrong hands

If hes not going to try and break the speed of sound barrier anytime soon, i dont think theres a need for forgied pistons

He will be getting no where near 450rwhp with a stock turbo.Lucky to get 300rwhp.And correct me if im wrong but didnt the 34 neo come with GTR conrods?

Saying that go for the forged pistons,later down the track you might wont more power(ECU,exhaust,boost,bigger turbo)

With forged pistons and a good tune i cant see why that motor combo wont achieve mid 300s without blowing something up.

But im thinking waaaaaaay into the future. Ive said before in a previous thread figure out what you want from the car,then put you wallet on the table and see what you can afford.

EDIT: Is there a legitimate reason for a rebuild? eg: rings gone,spun bearing? If not leave it alone and spend your cash on the basics.

but theres no need for forgied pistons for a mid 300rwhp car, way overkill.

Even if he wanted head room for future mods, he has to ask himself, do i eventually want over 450rwhp? If not dont go forgies, just my 2 cents

hey but whats the difference in price between forgies and standard pistons? if its jack all difference then why not? if u know where im coming from? it could even prove ur engines been rebuilt to be clean and in future when selling his car ppl might take it into consideration :blink: dunno just a thought

damn thats cheap hahahah i wouldnt go forgies if his only chasing 300rwhp.... im thinkin of slowing down on my project.. coz i thought about it.. am i really going to want 500awkw on something im suppose to drive daily??

things get outta hand pretty quickly down.. slow down and think about what u really need, unlike myself.. now i have to reassess everything.. so far its up to 15k :)
