hello

just went through and installed my safc2 and sitc today.

sitc seems to be working fine.

however the safc display is not lighting up or showing any info...

the adjusting knob lights up but nothing on the screen, so i cant set it for my car.

i unplugged the afm readings and put them back to stock at the ecu and the car still runs.

but i have a high idle (high as in 1500rpm high)

anyone have any ideas why the display wont show and why i have such a high idle?

going through and double checking all the connections right now.

Thanks alot :D

yeah youll have to double check everything

if the buttons are lit up then it has local power

where did you get the unit from? it could be toast if 2nd hand

smell the unit etc see if its burnt / damaged

the high idle could be if the AFM signal is cut from the main ecu

or if TPS is unplugged you get high idle too

all connections seem ok.

but still only the buttons light up

my tps shouldnt be disconnected.

Are you referring to the plug in the engine bay or the ecu connection with the safc?

i might try reset my ecu see if that effects the idle.

unit is 2nd hand from this forum

i'll msg the guy i got it from and see if he had similar troubles i guess.

i just reset my ecu and checked the error code

on the dash (the check engine light) will flash long once and quick twice

what is this?

it usually does 5 long and 5 quick

so i just checked... maf sensor (airflow meter) is the error code.

that is with the afm wires connected as standard.

guess i'll check that connection

and might do a diagnostic with the safc2 connected

looks like your SAFC is dead....

if you hock the RED and BLACK wire up (12v and ground) the screen should turn on with the back light for the turny knob.

I can't remember if SAFCs have a yellow wire for battery or not but if they do that will need to be hocked up as well.

You don't need any sensors to be hocked up for the screen to come on.

Try looking at it in some good light to see if you can see the screen, it may just have a blown back light in this case it will just be VERY dim. either way the unit will need to be replaced.

i found the problem, the bullet connections i used for the afm signal werent making contact properly,

i wired it directly and the screen fired up and it also fixed my high idle

however i played with the dec. air settings which is now making it stall at idle.

i tried to set it back to standard but the unit will not save my settings

every time it will just revert to the changed settings i put in

annoying!

is there a way to reset?

what does the initialise option do?

it is getting power from the ecu 12V

i cant get the screen up again now.

the getting the afm error again even with direct wiring

tried both without the safc and with the safc and get the same error

is it possible to damage afms? or another reason why it thinks there is no afm reading?

high idle is also back because of this

yeah i fixed that must of been a loose connection or something

safc is back on

however i cant save settings,

i turn off the dec. air settings

shut down, then when i start again it loads straight back to the dec. air settings page and the dec. air settings that are wrong are back there

i have tried changing other settings and they are not saving either

is the memory in the safc screwed?

i am fairly certain it is correct but the splicer i used to connect it may be the culprit and may be the reason why the safc starts sometimes and doesnt others

at the moment i am bypassing the safc and leaving the afm signals intact and the safc starts and monitors the rest of the signals fine.

i will check the power source tomorrow after work.

am i correct in assuming it uses the 12v switched from the ecu? the wire at the far end (or 2nd from the end i cant remember) of the 20pin

update: drove the car home running from the stock afm signal

tried to change the settings again and left it for the night, started it up in the morning and it had remembered the settings :)

maybe put it down to dodgy 12v connection like you said.

i'll try hooking the safc afm wires up tonight and see how it goes.

can anyone shed shome light on the dec. air settings? im running a plumb back bov on an auto. do i need them?

    • No worries, everything worked out in the end. I just wanted to make the point that it doesn't matter where it comes from (I.E Australia), it can be broken or improperly built. I would still purchase from these companies in the future. B2R - Not certain how that finished, this was on a car I wired a few things and street tuned. I know the owner ended up shipping the motor back to Australia for investigation. Hopefully some of it is covered under warranty.  Turbosmart - I always pressure test everything that goes on my car. It's a habit from my career in oil and gas. I run two 40mm's and both had major leaks from the actuator to exhaust portion through the shaft. I returned both, they shipped me back two and one was leaking and the other had a 38mm top (40mm gate with 38mm actuator cap, no idea how that happens). Eventually after a lot of back and forth I found myself with two non-leaking gates. I believe this happens a lot more then people would like to believe but you would never know if you don't pressure test them prior to installation. Crank Motorsport - Issued a full refund and let me keep the seat rails. I turned them into scrap metal for other projects. GKTech - Shipped me out a replacement and asked that I modify it as per my idea and that they would do the same for a future revision. ATP - Can just needed a large shim to bolt up properly.  Haltech - They started an actual proper Beta channel for firmware's a few months back and stopped using the general public for testing. I'm now much happier.  Speedtek - f**k Speedtek. I would love to watch them burn.
    • I've got a Turbosmart wastegate, ATP catch can, many GK Tech parts and Haltech everything. Everything's been perfect, sorry to hear your experience wasn't the same
    • The only high-power RB I've personally seen go pop after running for all of an hour on a dyno was built by B2R, while being remotely tuned by B2R. The only wastegates I've ever had leak like a sieve, return, still leak, return and get shipped back the wrong ones were from Turbosmart. The only final drive that I've ever purchased that were unusable, twice... were from Speedtek. The only seat mounts that I've ever purchased that placed the seats in the door frame were from Crank Motorsport. The only poorly designed parts that I had the manufacturer confirm should have been designed as per what I mentioned were from GKTech. The only ECU I've had firmware updates consistently break things are Haltech. The only catch can I've purchased that didn't fit in its advertised spot was from ATP. So forth and so on... Moral of the story, doesn't matter where it's from. Do your research beforehand and stick with products and companies you've trusted in the past.    @joshuaho96 If you want it done right, do it yourself.
    • Something coarse-ish. 180 is good.
    • I was surprised to see all the quick Jack models at the same prices on there. But yeah, grabbing one at 20% off would be great.
