Hey

I have changed the setup on my R32 RB20DET and am no longer able to use the stock intake pipe and plumb back system

Long story short I am using a 3" metal intake pipe with has provision for the rocker cover breather (hooked up with no issues) and to plumb back a blow off valve

I am using the stock cross pipe with the stock RB20 BOV and want to plumb it back into the intake pipe but my problem is I am having problem finding a hose (flexible to run from the BOV outlet to the intake pipe

I am no longer using that huge plumb back metal pipe junk, as it doesn't fit with the new setup

I have been to Autobarn, REPCO and Clark Rubber but can't find a hose in the right diameter - just wondering what everyone else has done and how I can get around this

I had one other idea which was to use an adapter to reduce the outlet size on the BOV - so use that stock hose with a fitting that reduces the outlet size so I can use a smaller hose to the intake pipe

But will this be restrictive or cause any issues?

Any help would be appreciated

Can you make something out of metal (what ever material you used for your intake pipe) that sits in between the stock bov return hose (just the rubber hose that used to join your bov to the metal return line) and the small rubber joiner you wil luse at the intake return point?

example in words..

Bov outlet===rubber joiner===new metal return line bent to the shape you need===rubber joiner===intake pipe bov return hole.

essentially, fabricate a new metal return pipe to replace the factory metal bendy return pipe.

I have also seen people use this sort of shit..

Obviously they come in all sorts of ID sizes.

Have a look in Clarks rubber.

they might have something for you.

the above stuff does not kink.

I've also seen it used for connections of catch cans.

Perhaps Bunnings or other plumbing stores might be able to help too

I thought about making something out of metal but would prefer just to use normal hose as its easier and looks more stock

I managed to find some hose but it was slightly smaller and just managed to squeeze into the stock hose on the BOV outlet - would something like that be ok?

Would diameter make a difference and is there a lot of pressure in that plumb back hose?

I saw that flexi shit at Clark Rubber but the diameter just falls short of what is needed and I don't know how good that would be - I reckon it would melt pretty quick or go all hard and brittle.

It's similar to loom tube which eventually breaks and cracks away

Bunnings was useless - I had a look around and couldn't find anything so I showed one of the guys there the size of hose I needed and he goes, 'go to autoban'

unless you start to hear flutter, then it's fine.

If you start to get flutter, then there is some sort of restriction in the Venting.. either the bov or the return line.

if the return line hasn't been reduced too much in diameter, then it shouldn't be a problem till you are well up in the 300rwkw as per Mafia's car.

    • My crystal ball says that when they replaced the pads, they didn't replace all of the brake hardware (could be a missing shim, pin, spring, etc).  Finding a low dust pad should be very easy. Have a google for things like, low dust / soft pad compound / easy on rotors. Your dust primarily comes from the rotors getting eaten up by the pads. 
    • I think old mate is going to continue to hold out for awhile at that price
    • OBD1 is a catch-all term for pre-OBD2 which could have basically any connector design and protocol. I really don't understand this attitude against using data logging for issues that can be multi-causal and subtle. A no-start situation or something like that sure the scan tool does nothing but if it runs like shit it can often be a sensor issue. When a friend of mine reliably had issues with his N54 not able to stay running eventually I narrowed down the issue to a faulty fuel pressure sensor. Only way I could do that was a scan tool to look at the fuel rail pressure and see shadow codes for fuel pressure. Then check against a pressure gauge. Is reflexively firing up the data logger probably a bad habit? I guess, it can encourage people to not listen/observe but on these old OBD1 cars just taking a log really doesn't do anything by itself. You still have to synthesize everything you know and think about what it all means.

    • Yeah saw that video on YouTube. But he got a R grade (repaired) high mileage model and proudly advertised the fact it was super cheap and no doubt with issues. I wouldn't be going the cheap and nasty route.
