I would have thought the tape prevents the broken peices of glass falling all over the place in an accident...

Touche`

if i even spelt that right. haha. only reason i was thinking was to minimize sun glare off the head lights. either for the driver infront or driver themselves... i now highly doubt that. haha

It is also used to distinguish cars from other similar cars when they are running down the straight and you have to put out the time board and you show it to the wrong one without tape on the headlights... man, I must have done that like 4 laps in a row til someone told me

I thought it was just to hold the glass together a bit better. Don't really understand for plastic though, but a suppose the same can apply.

When drifting, there is a lot of stress on the car, so I figured this provides a little rigidity for the lights to avoid them cracking. Might be totally wrong, but thats what I've assumed

Actually the precise intersection of crossing tape on a headlight gives the car a much needed boost in aerodynamic instability. Which results in more ability to get the car sideways.

+1

sounds like the most reasonable explanation

Yeah dude i learnt from driving country roads to and from pinjarra. helps stop shockwave and has saved a few windows id say. doesnt stop it chipping the window though :D

Gotta be careful with that though.. Heard some horror stories about shattering all the bones in your hand doing that..

Nothing can help you Rhys.

Cheers Steve, appreciate it mate.

stops the lights shattering if they cop a rock or something off the track, same as when u pass a car on a country road you touch the windscreen. Absorbs the impact and helps lessen the damage.

:)

They did this on MythBusters. Putting your hand on the window has no affect what-so-ever!! Your window won't break, its reinforced or whatever it is. All cars are from a certain year. Cant remember what year though, but fairly old.

damn bat me to it

as said, mythbusters, been there done that, negative on the impact absorption

    • Dose is unaware just how much fun 145-150kw would be in a 2.5L NC MX5. It would be one of the most fun things to drive to ever grace SAU.
    • Same thought crossed my mind ~ depends on how one connotes 'stalling'...ie; gets a rough/stumbling idle as it get warm until it stalls... or... idles ok and simply falls-over when it gets to temp... ...you can test the whole circuit with a couple of resistors ...unplug coolant temp sensor, bridge terminals with a 2K7 resistor (ECU will do cold start), or with engine warm bridge with a 330R resistor (ECU will consider engine to be at normal operating temp)...it's a quick way to check wiring integrity/ECU response when you don't have a multimeter handy ...
    • They also make them with the motor mounted on the side
    • Just be warned that that turbo will not be a direct re-fit to the car. The exhaust housing is, of course, in the same place. It has to be - it's bolted to the exhaust manifold. So the dump will fit up. But the centre housing is not as long, so the comp housing will move backwards. This will affect both the turbo inlet and the outlet. There is fab work that needs to be done. Yes. it has one, it should have one. Paper gasket.
    • I only recently purchased the vehicle, it came with the flex setup but the current tune is e85 only, which is why im wanting to get the tune redone to enable a mixture.  First i need to get the exhaust redone tho. I was thinking of getting a varex muffler but it sems they dont fit well in the 33 (hang low because of the valve mechanism which sticks out on top) and generally dont sound good. So that leaves me with redoing the entire exhaust (more resonators and mufflers) so its not a menace when i come and go from home, and then have the aes dump valve somewhere along the line to really open it up. I was thinking of having it before the cat but after seeing how insanely loud it will be (on a vl turbo) im thinking of putting it more towards the rear of the car, after one of the resonators.
