nice car mate. would of thought you would have made it well in to the 400hp mark with the gt35 and 3 litre bottom end on 20psi

Yes, I am sure with a bit more timing that is quite possible. My tuner likes be conservative with his tunes. The car previously had a stock 25 in it with the same turbo setup. Only 3 degrees of additional timing was added over the RB25 timing and the 3L runs about 8.2:1 compression. The head also has stock camshafts.

wot boost is the car tuned to and wot power is it making? cheers

Tuned to 20psi and made 373rwhp. The motor was bought last year from a guy who had it in his VL commodore. The owner said no expense was spared on the engine build and he had it tuned for 24psi with a T66. The dyno graph showed 640rwhp. So I am confident the motor has more potential in it. Ultimately I achieved what I wanted from the setup so had no reason to lean on the motor.

Cheers

hmmm no expense spared on the motor.... stock rods pushing 640hp thats a bit of a worry. hows that fuel pump handle? herd the walbro's only have enough puff for about 240-250kw? wot did ur tuner say about the pump? who tuned your car? and do you have receipts for the rebuild? sorry bout all the question, I am interesed though, cheers

Yes, the owner supposedly spared no expense on the motor although he still used the stock head and cam shafts - go figure. I saw the 640hp power figure on a dyno chart but am not willing to comment on its authenticity or accuracy. In my experience there are many factors which govern the recorded performance of a car on a dyno hence the variations in power between different dynos. Needless to say a cars performance down the quarter mile gives a good indication of its potential. With the old RB25 motor and GT35R running 16psi (293rwhp) the car managed a terminal speed of 110.5mph (low 12s) despite the problems launching the car with the old suspension.

I did get some receipts from the owner of the engine but they only cover the machining work and engine assembly and show purchase of the ARP gear. The owner was quite willing to pull the head off to show the forged pistons although I didn't see this as a necessity given my ultimate goal of not more than 300rwkw. I was also told the block was O-ringed.

Walbro is great. I have provided it with a direct power feed thanks the battery now living in the boot. I expected the fuel pump to limit the power the engine made and would expect it to be close to its limit.

My cousin, Phil Laird, tuned the car. He is a well respected tuner in Australia.

The Electronic boost controller has 3 settings. Normal day to day driving I run on setting 1 which is 13-14psi.

Hope this sufficiently answers your queries.

Cheers

    • I haven't....but a poorly made one would terrify me. Surely a good second hand one is the go, as they don't work hard and no-one wants to keep one after they are finished with it A big consideration would be the weight of the shell you are putting on it....is it a fully dressed chassis or just the body
    • Not stock. All remade. Mostly looks stock because the pipes run to and from the standard holes in the inner guard to get to the return flow FMIC. I'm not sure which question you're trying to ask, because it seems like "stock position" vs "stock position".
    • Hey, it's a GT-R, it's just as significant a moment as mine😁 It's not ideal when things are uncertain; I'm the type of person that always has a set plan for things in life so being unsure of this plan puts me in a weird place mentally.
    • Hows your intake piping? Are you still running stock? Having in the stock AFM position would mean, if the BOV was shut/venting out, it'd create the almost stalling kind of effect right // "the rich pulse behaviour" due to MAF thinking air is flowing ? But this would be better than having the bov in the stock position + MAF on/just before cross over piping right?
    • Essentially, yes. Although I wouldn't put the AFM on the crossover pipe. I'd want to put it into what amounts to the correct size tube, which is more easily done in the intercooler pipework. I bought a mount tube for card style AFM that replaces the stock AFM - although being a cheap AliExpress knockoff, it had no flange and I had to make and weld my own. But it is the same length and diameter as the stock RB AFM, goes on my airbox, etc etc. I don't have a sick enough rig to warrant anything different, and the swap will take 5 minutes (when I finally get around to it and the injectors & the dyno tune).
