Hi

On my last track day, running very nicely, after 15 laps, power loss and no response from throttle and behaves as if fuel starvation. fuel pump sounds as if running full capacity (screaming) and will not rev over 2000RPM. Have to turn off and restart to get to pits.

If car is allowed to cool down for half an hour, can get one full lap with full power then fault recurs

Nissan R33, GTS NA 1998

fuel pump is an uprated wallbro, new fuel lines, filter, tank full.

No fault codes pop up, no over heating, car runs fine and very strong

sounds like you'll need a surge tank.

not really a common issue - but it does happen. i have no problems without one and i would think that i hold more sideways Gs than most people.

15 laps is a fair bit though, i would hazard a guess that the tank would be no where near full.

no not so common. am hoping to get to the bottom of this asap. U r right that the tank is half full when this happens. But when I enter the pits and refill the problem persists. I actually thought the tank had emptied when this first happened and thought the fuel indicator was giving a wrong reading but I discovered otherwise.

hmmm... This is interesting and im curious too about the answere..

Whats your fuel pressure like?

What fuel press regulator are you using?

You didnt mention a surge tank? Does it have one?.. This could cause a drop in press through hardcornering if there isn't enough fuel.

Stuid question.. but.. how much fuel did you have in the tank? Perhaps.. this is just speculation and I could be completely wrong.. but during the hard cornering the fuel has gone to one corner of the tank?.. Lost pressure within the system and the restart (and the leveling out of the fuel) has re-pressurised the system? Then that could also explain why it cuts out again during the next lap?.. not enough fuel in the tank?

You say it has a new fuel tank?.. What tank?.. Because this could give you a wrong reading from the guage?

Ill have a squiz through the workshop manual.. see if there is anything like this in the diagnosis..

Keep us updated.. im really interested in this now..

Thanks for that GTS4WD.

I didn't put in a new fuel tank and don't have a fuel pressure regulator. What I have done is change the fuel pump from standard to a walbro. I did that because the car was doing the same thing, so I assumed that the pump couldn't keep up. When I did change the pump the problem continued.

All topics on the forum are leading to the Air Flow Meter. The symptoms the car has look like an AFM problem. Spoke to the garage here and he said the car runs ok after switching off and on again because the computer erases the memory reading, which explains why the car takes me to the pit after switching off and on again. If it was fuel related, the problem might remain constant.

Another thing is that the standard fuel pump did the same thing. When I upgraded to a walbro the problem persisted. Will install my friend's AFM and see how it does. If problem persists I will look at the return fuel lines etc.

sorry for any inconvenience but the first post didn't generate any views because title was unclear. My repost with the new title generated much more views.

Living in Dubai, the Consult is difficult to find. Lo and behold I found a garage that has one for my r33 98 model. Did the test, the electrics are perfect, AFM is ok. The problem turned out to be the fuel return (fuel pressure regulator) which I will be checking in the next 2 days.
