I've just learnt from j-spec imports it is illegal under australian law to import non turbo 32's and s13's. If this is the case, sorry i'm new to all of this, how did the current non turbo ones in australia get here? Is there a new law or something i'm missing. I'm especially interested in an r32 gts but finding them extremely rare and hard to come by in australia. especially in QLD, where i live.

Does anybody know of this or has an imported 32 gts they could tell me how they got here?

cheers

Hi Aaron,

Non turbo R32's and S13's already in Australia will have come in under old import laws, either under the CPA scheme or the 15 year old rule as they were eligible under those import laws, but they don't exist any more. The R32 and S13 non turbo does not meet the 105kW/ton power to weight ratio requirement which is why they can't come in. If I recall correctly the GTS25 (RB25DE R32) MAY meet the power to weight ratio requirement, however when the original application was made with DOTARS someone didn't bother to include it (thanks for nothing) and no compliance workshops have evidence for it in this variant, so testing would be around $6,000+ to pass it :P

If you have to have a non turbo R32 you'll have to find one locally imported under older import rules.

It's worth mentioning that non-turbo R33s and R34s (RB25) are eligible, but if you have your heart set on an R32, you'd need to look locally, like you said.

Yeah as i'm finding it hard to find a 32, i mite settle for a 33 soon.

I was soo shocked the first time I saw an RB20E under the hood of an R33 haha.

Back on topic, perhaps buy an R32 shell, and drop in an RB25DE from an R33? Sure there'd be a few headaches but it'd be better than the RB20DE and possibly cheaper?

I'd love to but i'm stuck on restrictive laws so i'm not sure if engine swaps are legal??? as for the RB26DETT man i wish...
