Hey all im new to the skyline scene, Im a holden man myself and im looking for a weekender prety much (have vn wagon for work thats on gas so cheap to run ). Now with holdens the 5 speed is called a T5 and the 6 speed is a T56, the 6 speeds ment to take a fair bit of punnishment were as the 5 speed dusnt like it.

So what i want to no is what are the 5 speeds like in the 33 are they eqivalent of a T5 like in a commodore or they different?

Just want to no if they will take some abuse like clutch dumps and burnouts. The reason im straying away from commodores are that what i want i cant afford and the next best bang for buck i recon is a skyline because they are geting prety cheap now 12- 15 k for a half decent 1...

Im just not sure what to do. Just looking at the engine bay, chaning plugs looks like it would be a nightmare not much room around.

Sorry for the essay i just want to make sure i make the right descision

Manual trans in turbo skylines are MX-7 boxes............same as turbo VL's but with slightly different ratios

I think that the cost of them suggests that they have a good reputation as a decent box

richard

ps. for the record, I am not having relations with the above member

    • It's something we all have to consider as time marches on. Also consider lifted rally MX5 conversion at that point.
    • I should be fine for a few more years, whilst I do have arthritis I also exercise and do mobility training every day to keep as fit and healthy as I can, military life, which is the actual cause of most of my joint issues, has set daily regimes, which I weirdly enjoy I also train alot smarter now, not really focusing on lots strength or puffy muscles, I'm more focused on maintaining what I have for my future older self, I actually train as much mobility now as I do exercising Check out this "simple" drill I have been doing daily prior to training now for a while now, this has worked wonders in my all round mobility
    • I'd say one thing that may make you sell is the same reason the guy with the hard top roof sold his. He got old, and his back was giving him too much grief stopping him getting in and out... Old guy said he was 73! He looked and sounded younger than 73 to me! Or maybe I'm just aligning with old people more...
    • Already looked at a few prior to getting the MX5, really nice car, had all the mod cons, but I wasn't really sold on the new "look" I did miss my 2017 Limited, and I personally prefer the "look" of the older car over the new model, but, when pondering I kept going back looking at MX5's But it was same same for the new ND's, I wasn't sold on the new "look", especially the RF with its weird roof, which only half goes down, like a targa top sort of thing As I stated before, I did look at NC's, but the cars I looked at were PRHT's, but I didn't like their roof line "look" of the PRHT, until I saw the soft top version, (someone on SAU posted a for sale ad for one with a soft top that caught my attention, you can blame them for my choice.....🤣) and.... that old style detachable hard tops were available for them, which keeps the old MX5 more smoother flowing roof line, and the more rounded body style, similar to the NA-NB, to me, the arse end of the ND looks to "modern" Much like how I prefer the NC1 front bar, over the later models How long will I keep this car for is unknown, but currently, there's nothing else out there that "floats my boat" for a small, fun, little "sports car", that I can play with and enjoy looking at and driving But, who knows what the future holds, and going off current new car styling, if I replace it, it will be a older model something something
