Replacing R34 Sedan Taillights With Coupe Model.

I thinking about changing my taillights.

If it's possible, I think it would be really unique for a 4 door 34.

Looking at it, the actual body work (in silver) looks like it would be a direct swap with the body work of the coupe model.

Can anyone give me confirmation of this?

do a quick search dude, its been covered a couple of times, the coupe lights dont fit the 4 door, and the level of modification would most likely be quite large, especially considering the location of the indicator on the 4 door

When you buy Sedan tailight replacements, they come with the panel around it as well. I was wondering if this panel is the same fit as the Coupe, unless you mean connecting the wiring as well with the indicators will be a pain. =\

i went through the same faze, you cant do it with out serious modification. if u look closely the boots different making the tail lights a different shape. but i absolutly agree that it would be very rare and sexual at the same time haha tthe cheapest way would be to actually create your own tail light. in other words in stead of having the indicator at the top make plastic cover over that and cut out bigger tail lights and put them in and wire them up. sounds im possible but if some one createed that im sure tthey would make$$$$$$

Magic, how much money do you have? If you really want to do it, it'll be the most unique looking R34 4-door in WA. But like R34TRK said, you could modify yours to look like the Coupe's? might be cheaper. Let us know how you go.

I've got a few parts to go on this weekend. I'm def gona look into this more. I reckon it can be done one way or another.

I can get the 4 door indicator at the bottom covered up by a panel beater, that shouldn't be a problem.

I guess if I'm doing it that way though, I'd need to trial fit a set of coupe taillights beforehand, and see how much modifying needs to be done.

Has anyone got a spare coupe taillight that I could borrow for a weekend in about 3 weeks? Cash your way for taillight 'rental'. Or if someone could measure the diameter of the coupe taillights for me that would be a great start.

As for the $$ Rhys, let's just say she'll be more than ready for Auto Salon '09.

Yeh i'd go with whats been said, it probably can be done, but would require a bit of electrical knowledge to wire it right, and as you said, patching up that indicator, good luck with it anyway, let us know how it goes

they are physically different sizes...

but to answer your question yes it can be done, if u really wanted u could put Supra Rear lights on.

but in saying that it needs to be custom fabricated.

but u cant just replace one with the other and do some wirring.....they just wont fit.

Looking at this, it will take alot of work. I think may have been mentioned, but fibreglassing the indicators up and swapping the 2-door light clusters over would give the same effect, wouldn't it?

Yeah Rhys that's what we were discussing, I can get the indicator fibreglassed over no worries. The next issue would be gettin a coupe light and trial fitting the coupe lights and testing the connections to see what needs to be modified. I'd put about $1,500 just towards this project if I have to. A set of sedan LED lights are $1,200. Signifcantly more expensive than the coupe model. Even with custom fabrication I think my idea will both be unique, and a lot more worth the $$.

Still waiting if someone has a spare one that I could borrow for a weekend or 2.

i don't have a spare one but have a few words to say to this...

i've always thought the URAS R34 4 DOOR (drift one) is awesome but i quite dislike the sedan tail-lights...

also thought to myself and sedan's are a fair bit cheaper than coupe's and it would be awesome just to swap them around...

in all honesty i don't have the money or the time to invest in such a project but i'll tell you one thing Brandon, once you've done it you've definately got one of the hottest R34 sedan's EVER!?!

oh yeah, where i was initially getting at, at Hong's (rice boy) wedding planner breakfast at sizzler i parked next to Mark (MarcoR34GTT) or whatever and i had a quick look, physically IMPOSSIBLE without modification, if only it was straight swap, Nissan probably new this would happen so they've purposely built the car in such a way that prevents it...

I sure will keep you guys posted. The next few months I am flat out with engine mods. And planning my big trip to Japan in October. But between now and then I'll try and track down a custom body shop that can give me some advice.

Most realistic way would be to fibreglass over the indicators and see what modifcations needs to be done to the coupe tailights in terms of fitting and electrical.

But it's not a priority for me, got a lot more to be done before this.

Only place I can think of that do custom import body mods is C-Red? The guy I need to speak to about quieries (forget his name) is never available when I call, and living in Rockingham makes it hard to just 'stop by', actually tried doing it twice but no luck.

Anybody know of anywhere else?

As Andrew said....

I've been beating myself up about it but it simply requires time, effort and money that blokes our age just can't spare...

I mean a GTR front end conversion (like I'm doing) is still expensive and somewhat time consuming... But the rear end business is still rather 'unexplored', it would be rather hit and miss and it is that factor which ends up swelling the budget... Don't get me wrong, the 2 door lights/indicators/rear bars are sexy... However it can't be done in a jiffy, it requires research, effort, custom work and other such commitments of personal time and resources...

ON a final note, look at the 'rear bar' of a 2 door and a 'rear pod' of a 4 door, the 2 doors have a rear bar set up that can be easily replaced, however the 4 door setup of much more integrated into the body work, especially, if you want to fit a rear bar on a 4 door, you'll be needing to pull out the angle grinder...

they do insane custom cosmetic styling... better bet than C-Red as Fibrevision specialise in that sort of thing

Find out and I may be interested... I'm thinking here if they are using custom templates/moudings and whatnot, doing two units may turn out cheaper than one...

I'm not sure, I'll find out. Mine will basically be the 'trial' car so I doubt it would make a difference. But if mine turns out all good they may do 'group fits' later on.

Most of this year will be researching due to other projects I want done that are more important, January-Feb next year I'm hoping for Fibrevision and myself to get hands on with it.
