hey guys,

i've run around a few workshops to get quotes on my engine plans, fairly simple and just want a bit more response and power, nothing too over the top...

the modifications i have are;

Blitz NuR Spec exhaust

Blitz SuS Power Air Filter

i've been told the next steps i should take include;

GReddy Front Mount Intercooler

Bosch 044 Fuel Pump

GReddy Profec B Electronic Boost Controller

Injectors

Apexi Power FC

HKS GT30 Turbo

for this list i have here it is approximated to cost around $7000+/- supplied and fitted...

keep in mind turbo is $2700 and Power FC is $1200 that's already $4000...

i NEED all you guys for your help and advice, does that seem a bit too pricey at all?

i'm shaking my head... not because it's a fair bit of money but i'm a bit confused right now, the prices seem to be feasible but i am wondering if there is a cheaper alternative...

besides the obvious China spec alternative... before i commit to anything i would really appreciate what you guys have to say about this because i will be going to the bank within the next few days and want to make sure my money doesn't go to waste, I TRUST YOU GUYS!?!

please help,

much appreciated,

Andrew

P.S oh yeah, what i'm trying to ask is could the $7000 be used for anything a bit more useful?

cheers :)

i think they are 660cc

with the turbo i'm not sure, i have no idea... said workshop said that turbo, so i assume it will suit for my current exhaust setup..?

i have been looking around and things like 1000cc injectors i've seen can sell 6 for $950 rather than $210 each for 660cc injectors so i'm sure i can find cheaper ones...

Fuel Pump i'm sure i can find a cheap one selling if i search hard enough and same goes for Boost Controller...

i just feel as if though i can find cheaper options out there and i'm not sure if i can justify if the patience would outweigh the convenience of just having everything provided by the workshop and getting it all done at once...

i am quite an impatient person but if i'm saving a few g's then why not you know?

ta,

Andrew

The first question really should be, what are you building the car for and what power output do you need for that application. After that you can talk about how you should mod your car.

So... what are you building the car to do?

just want it to be fun to drive...

looking for a VERY responsive drive with a nice amount of torque, not fussed with big power though... far from it actually

want all the necessities too though ie. ECU, FMIC, Boost Controller and upgraded turbo is what i want, whatever else that is required as supporting mods then so be it i'll do those too...

not after big power, just response

cheers

EDIT:

oh yeah, won't be taking the car to the track and MIGHT take the car to the strip just for some times to see what it's capable of...

the faster the better but big power is not too much of an issue for me

If you want something streetable and a good amount of fun, don't go over 250rwkw. Just starts getting a little crazy for the road then.

To give you an idea, when I get my R34, I'm building it mainly as a road car, but want to use it to start competing in the Autotest series. Don't want huge power for that as most of the tracks are tight and twisty.

To do this I'm going to start with a little over 200rwkw and see how that goes first. To get there I'm getting the following

- RB20 wastegate actuator (increases boost to 10psi)

- FMIC

- CAI

- High flow filter

- Power FC (if I can find one )

- 3" turbo back exhaust

- Iridium sparkies

- Tomei Fuel pump

- Surge tank

Then I will work on suspension and braking as well

This will give me between 200 and 210 rwkw and be pretty competitive and a lot of fun to drive. Since I've still got the stock turbo, it will spool up quickly and give good response. The only other mod that I may also add is a front facing plenum. This will once again increase the response that was lost from all the fmic piping going over the top of the engine.

I will use it like this for a while, and if I feel I need a little more of a kick, I will look into some more options :)

i wouldn't bother with doing poncams it will eventually destroy your bottom end they are good for power but only if you are looking for big numbers and require taking the engine apart, also dont bother getting 1000cc injectors again only needed for big power aplications 250rwkw is a big number and very streetable and you would only need 550cc injectors for that and they sell for about 600 a set.

Have a look in the traders section for mechanical parts (dont buy them second hand your asking for trouble) and you should be able to pick up a profec b and power fc from someone pretty cheap just look around

My 2 cents

awesome, yeah i'm thinking that the smartest (while conservatively saving money) option is to buy off the traders here what the workshops tell me they require to work with and once i've taken delivery on all the parts to just go to said workshop and let them do their thing...

yeah might do 550cc, have to drop by and have a few more words with them...

keep the comments coming guys, much appreciate this

Andrew

what hks turbo are we talking?

HKS GT3037 PRO S?

give you an idea of price

greddy m-spec intercooler $800

nismo 740cc injectors $800

Pfc $1000-$1500 + tuning cost ($400-$700)

z32 afm $250-$300

FuelPump (nismo or tomie) $300-$350

EBC $300-$800 (depends on what type you get)

then you need to add the cost of labour of installing all the parts, if you got the time and some tools you can do it all yourself (only thing i found hard to do was the injectors)

Edited by [Michael]

I've done..

Intercooler - $500 self install

PFC with Controller & Z32 AFM - $1400 self install

Fuel Pump (tomei) - $340 self install

EBC - $480 + $88 install

Splitfire Coilpacks $520 (like $480 now)

Got a HKS GT-RS kit from a mate but havent done a price yet and have ordered Nismo 740cc injectors for $875. So I will need like $250 worth of gaskets, dunno if I will install this I don't know what I'm doin hahah

+2 to doing it yourself, if you've got a mate with a workshop then even better :P

Have you thought of handling and braking upgrades? I did the basics (car already came with a cooler and coilovers) like boost, exhaust fuel pump etc and then put swaybars and adjustable bushes in aswell as bigger brakes and braided lines. Also put a 2way diff in THEN got serious about the engine..

don't use 044, won't work.. its an external pump. you can shove it into the tank, but the pump will never be able to take fuel from teh bottom bit of the tank.

if the sus filter you talking about is the super sound or whatever, re-consider using them.. I've got 1 atm, the heat shield, kinda work more like a heat trapping mechanism, it also restricts air flow.

you'll probably need to change your front pipe, dump pipe , have an external gate, unless you getting GT30/40 the ones internally gated, also you'll need exhaust manifold, fuel regulator...

the list you mention above, they may already cost more than $7k btw..

i'm in a situation as Andrew, sorry for hijacking ur thread :(

except i got some of the basic mods on my car, aiming for 250-270rwkw. basically want max power i could get without touching the stock internals :bunny:

gt30? mikey said he made 251rwkw with gt2835? would it be good for 270rwkw?, where would it max out. 2.5k for the whole kit?

got a 3.5" catback, with 3" dump/front - dunno if i new one

got FMIC

got 040 fuel pump

got apexi pod

got avcr ebc

so ill need

the turbo kit -2500

injectors -800

power fc + tune - 1400 ish

labour - ?? dunnno how much

What else do i need? or could it be done for under 6k? on a budget here

either 250rwkw-270rwkw gtst, or stock r33 GTR for around the same cost......hhmmm

If you're only wantinga bit more power & better response, it would be more suitable to just replace the stock turbo directly, not get a hi-mount that will then need exhaust manifold changes (more $$), as well as being more obvious under the bonnet.

orrrr just wait till you sell your boat and have money to buy a real performance car instead of making your car even more undriveable:P In other words just save your money... your car looks nice as it is just be happy with it till you sell it and get your mates TOMMI 6.5 which will be more fun than your car with 250kw at the wheels and still probably just as quick.

^^

yeh if your not after stupiud amounts of power

im sure u can find a low mount

good incase u get ping by the popo

you might want to start light

get a FMIC + boost controller + tune

if that still doesnt satisfy your needs, then get a bigger turbo

i think you will find the standard turbo will give 260rwhp+ (on a r33 should be more on a r34 as the rear housing is larger)

just coz u changed from a gtst to a gtr, doesnt mean a gtst isnt a performance car anymore lol, i say change not upgrade coz u went to an older car :(

    • I would paint match the whole thing to avoid unwanted attention  I had a similar bonnet, paint matched, on my old R33 GTST, but mine was a fibreglass jobbie made by Blitz in QLD, they work extremely well for radiator efficiency and under bonnet temps
    • Does anyone run this kit with factory plenum? Does the adapter and bosch tb fit under factory strut brace? I wanted to get this setup before going forward facing manifold. Thanks
    • small update time, after always wanting a "cool" looking bonnet for my car and always struggling to find one for the series 2 that i liked and wasn't an insane amount of money. Saw one i liked on RHDjapan from D-speed in Japan the price was very good for a carbon bonnet so good infact i was a little unsure how much i trusted it, decided to bite the bullet and with the help of jesse streeter in not long at all it was at my door. Once it was delivered i ran in from work and quickly unboxed it and to my surprise the quality was actually pretty good i quickly removed the old bonnet and placed on the new one to test it out and even the fitment wasnt too bad at all. Then decided to paint the little grille in the bonnet black to stop it sticking out so much.   I decided to not mess around with the hood latch and just install some aero catch hood pins, having never installed them before did some YouTube university classes and i was good to go. fair to say it is not a fun job at all from making brackets so the pins sit nicely and actually cutting through the bonnet but also being very scared of cutting the holes too big it took wayyyy longer than i would like to admit but finally got it there. Then it was time for a quick test drive to ensure the latches actually worked and thankfully the bonnet looked very stable. I still think paint matching the bonnet and leaving just the part that sticks up as carbon would help make it all look alot neater as im not sure how i feel about all that carbon on a very fridge white car but will leave it as is and see how i feel with time.
    • I think it's bound to happen, you finally get it all perfect, and bam, something will happen. I took a while to get a Commodore rear quarter repaired where a P Plater clipped it. Two days after getting it back, Sarah wiped it out on a concrete pillar in an underground car park... This is why I take forever to repair them, it stretches how long until it gets bent again... 😛
    • Nah, not really responsible for that little fiasco, but I'm still pissed at myself for writing off my 86, or when I reversed my VX into a pole just before selling it, but, meh, 5hit happens to stuff, all it takes is a slight distraction, and life is full of distractions, and "dooh" moments
