32 and 33 are 4.1:1

34 I can't remember off the top of my head but they are in the 3s. maybe 3.7 or 3.9.

no GTR came with 4.3:1. R32 GTS4 however did come with 4.375:1.

I would question the merit of a 3.5:1 though. your acceleration will suffer but your top speed will be astronomical. for a street/circuit GTR with stock power you aren't getting past about 220 on pretty much any track in aus. with decent power sure you can get to 260 or so on some circuits but apart from bathurst you wont get much past that. and with a 3.5 your potential top speed would be in the 300s but you'd have not much chance of ever getting there. unless we are talking really big power drag or circuit car.

the only place a 3.5:1 will be nice is on the freeway for cruising.

most people changing ratios in 32s go from the stock 4:1 to the GTS4 4.375 (myself included).

;) sorry I'm an idiot. for some reason I thought this thread was about GTRs. please disregard most of what I said.

again, sorry. I'm not sure on the range of diffs that were available in GTSTs but there will be plenty of options from other R200 diffs to change to. :D

From what I discovered when I was searching for gears it kind of works by 'era'... for instance S13 gears bolt straight up to my R32 centre (or rather the Nismo R32 centre I bought), R33's have larger diameter crown wheel bolts but can be made to work (I believe you can even get bolts designed specifically for this) and I think R34's are different again but can't remember in what way).

In your defence BB, he didn't actually specific GTR/nonGTR so I'll let you off

thanks guys, the diff is an r32 gtst.

but its going in a torana with an rb30, so i dont have the revs to pull astronomical speeds.

currently i have a BW 78 series with 3.9s from a pintara. also using the rb20det 5 speed. gets going really well but just runs out of legs a bit too quick.

so can i just walk into joes diff shop and buy a set of 3.5s??

or am i stuck with 3.9s?

how much did it cost and wot are the benefits - reference to 32R :-)

benefits, faster acceleration, better drive out of corners. downside is less speed achievable in each gear. top speed limited to about 260-280 depending on rev limit.

the parts themeselves are not too expensive (but a bit tricky to find) but there is a fair bit of work in fitting them. for the front you basically need to remove the engine, then remove the sump. rear is obviously drop the cradle and remove the diff. just remember if you do it you will need the front crown wheel and pinion and the shaft it's on, and the rear crown wheel and pinion too.
