Hi all,

just looking at buying a R32 GTR and having never driven one before im not too sure if this is normal or not but i was pushing it a little hard around a few roundabouts like nothing too insane just gently acclerating through and the back end seemed to be swining out quite easily. Just wanted to know if this was normal for GTR's because there is hardly anything weighing down the back?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated and any other buying tips for the 32 GTR's.

Thanks.

Hicas can kick in on average speeds and kick the rear end out which is bloody annoying and scary at the same time. Have a look under the search banner for 'hicas lock bar' and that should solve your problems.

Also, our attessa system in the 32 is a little slower to react to wheel speed etc and only calculates 10times/sec compared with 100/sec on later models. Thus, the car will experience a little more power oversteer than other GTRs

Could be a number of things - eg. if the cars been lowered and hasnt had adjusters added to the suspension arms the rear geometry will be stuffed.

Look in the General maintenance section for a buying tips thread.

Just take it easy. I see a few 1st time GTR drivers tend to over steer the car cuz they are not use to the HICAS.

Its the rear wheels turning 1 degree in the opposite direction as apposed to the front, to help with cornering. It's a bitch doing a 100km/h on a long stretch bend of freeway and the HICAS will start to kick causing the rear to pop out abit.

Its a bit hard to tell if what you are describing is normal or not, but yes the GTR is tail happy compared to a lot of other cars out there, remember it is a powerful rear drive car (mostly). It can take some getting used to depending on what you are used to driving.

I'm not convinced HICAS is the end of the world, more likely a lot of people's problems are poor alignment and worn (15-20year old) rear bushes which cause the tail to move around a little.

i agree with duncan.. ive had all my bushes replaced when i got the car and although it does have apexi N1 suspension, it handles really really well, well enough to leave my mates 06 STI and my mates evo 8 behind down the black spurs.. ive also had my computer remapped and the hicas tuned more aggresively.. so it comes on faster and "harder"

but ive heard stories on how tail happy they are, i just havent had the pleasure of experiencing that extreme tail happy state.. it usually corrects itself really quickly when exiting corners

get them to jack up the rear of the car - secure with axle stands etc. With both wheels off the ground, grab each back wheel in turn at a quarter to three and push/pull alternately - trying to steer the wheel. If you can feel ANY movement then somethings worn! most likely the bushes and the rear steering links. This will give the car more than the 1 deg rear steering that Nissan intended.
